How do I set stabilizer trim in 2D panel?

Featured Replies

Im not a 2d hater I actually do fly the NGX, 747 and MD11 in 2d cockpit view. To access the fuel cutoffs and trim I just switch to virtual cockpit. It's not something that takes long or messes my performance up at all becasue the only times I have to access it this way is on start up and shut down. Everything else is on my controllers. The difference is I just accept PMDGs explanation and the fact that they are not gonna make a 2d throttle panel and have moved on. I also have plans to upgrade my computer soon so I can fly the NGX in Virtual cockpit mode.If your lucky maybe when the SDK comes out some developer will get permission from PMDG to make yall a 2d throttle panel. Look guys, I don't think a 2D pedestal is happening. I know it's a bummer and a ###### off for lots but unfourtunately, I think thats the way it is going to be. For a official response, file a support ticket. They'll give you the word then.Really, there's till some poor sods waiting on SP2 for the j41 for the last year or so. Yes thy are minor issues but most have realisedIt probably ain't coming.It's all dollars and cents guys an it probably isn't worth it for them.

PMDG has explained why they did not include it in the 2d panel. They also stated they are moving away from 2d panels to Virtual Cockpits, even though they will continue to support home cockpit builders. I think a lot of people are going to be shocked to find out that 2d-panel flying is history when the 777 comes out.They are not trying to upset anyone but they gotta go with the majority and what makes the most business sense. With the hardware that is available today developers have more flexibility to push the limits of what is possible in Simuation and most people appreciate this. They are not going to limit themselves for the few folks that are still stuck in the past.Just like the FS9 and FSX debate. Lots of folks said they would not upgrade to FSX and would stay with FS9. Well now that many developers are not even making FS9 products anymore those folks got left behind.
Agreed, in my opinion your really missing out on the greatest part of the NGX by flying 2d.. but on the other hand I can see how the 2D crowd feels they were mislead.

The other growing market as I see it is in the home cockpit area using 2D panels, multi monitors with separate outside views, that is the flight sim future not this VC, I can understand if all you can do is VC but for the others there is a whole world of realism out there that gets as close to a real sim as can be done in a home.percy.
Exactly. That's the same reason we bought the NGX. We have a pseudo-home cockpit using screens/touch-screens for most panels. Much cheaper. Currently there is no way (absolute zero or 0.(0) ) to view the trim in such a setup. And according to the purchase page, it should be, once because full 2D set is claimed as being available, and 2nd. because it claims to be built for home cockpit users in mind. MD11 was perfectly capable of this, and it seems this will be possible less and less with PMDG. It seems there will be no budget solution for home cockpits with future products, only full fledged setups that must display everything in actual physical gauges which will be very expensive, will require reprogramming and will be much less flexible (with a touch screen setup we can move from one aircraft to the next in a matter of minutes and have them fully simulated too).

And where is that claimed? Can you point me to the right direction please?PMDG said well before the release that the throttle quadrant will not be available! & only a LIMITED 2D will be available!

Kind regards

Since PMDG has now removed all references to the 2D panels in the NGX ( one has to wonder why), after a bit of hunting it is mentioned in some reviews....heres one....http://pretendflyer.blogspot.com/2011/08/mini-review-pmdg-737-ngx.html"As with PMDG's previous flagship level products, the NGX comes with a full set of 2D panels. "Unfortunatly I cant find other references in reviews, but every single 2D user here knows that 2D panels were advertized and NO WHERE was it mentioned the TQ would be missing. I can only assume PMDG decided to remove all references to 2D in their current advertizing to try to quiet the folks who not only want it, they are entitled to it. At the very least it was false advertizing, at the worst it was fraud.

Now the discussion has started into a "did they advertise or not" article. I don't think that it is the point. The point is that there still are 2D users who would like to have full 2D cockpit. Why is that so hard to understand...? It makes me sad that as soon I start requesting a full 2D cockpit someone complains that "it is a thing from the past" but I would still like one. It doesn't bother anyone with a 3D cockpit that there is a added throttle quadrant for 2D but it would be so nice for us "2D people from the past" to have one. Sry guys but I just don't get the reason....Manfred

Jay and Manfred I am feeling generous tonight with the Holiday Season coming on. I will refund your money if the following terms are met. PMDG deactivates your Activation codes, and your both banned for life from the NGX Forum.Are those terms acceptable to you? You can take the refund money and go buy the I-fly.

Does anyone know if the trim is directly readable at an fsuipc offset? Perhaps the SDK will have a readable variable. I only need to set the trim once usually (before takeoff).
NOSE UP (save as "noseUp.lua")
ipc.control(70310, 16384)tt = ipc.readLvar("L:ElevTrimTT")ipc.writeSTR(0x3380, "Trim: " .. tt);ipc.writeSW(0x32FA, 5);

NOSE DOWN (save as "noseDown.lua")

ipc.control(70310, 8192)tt = ipc.readLvar("L:ElevTrimTT")ipc.writeSTR(0x3380, "Trim: " .. tt);ipc.writeSW(0x32FA, 5);

1.- Save both code snippets to two text files and name them noseUp.lua and noseDown.lua. Place them at the FSX Modules folder (C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator XModules by default)2.- Assign a keystroke or button-press for nose-up via FSUIPC, to the control "Lua noseUp", and another one for nose down using the "Lua noseDown" controlYou need a registered copy of FSUIPC, and version 4.6 or later

There we are again. Some 2D hater that thinks that he is so cool about using his 3D cockpit. This matter doesn't concern you. If I send a post that I would like for PMDG to continue making full 2D panels it simply doesn't affect you at all. You are not PMDG, you are not a sales representative. You are simply a person ruining our request for a better simulator experience...

Manfred as I already stated I fly 2D Panel Just like you do! I just accept that there is not going to be a 2d-Throttle that is in the only difference. If you feel you got ripped off take the money and go get the I-fly but for god sakes stop whinning so much it's getting pretty pathetic and is not gonna accomplish squat!

What the heck is your problem, man?????????????????? Are you drunk?

Gabriel

A solution to the problem was just posted, and it's the same solution that was posted several months ago when this discussion first happened. I don't care who you are, but stop your childish b*tching and enjoy the NGX.

No Gabriel just tired of the whinning it aint going to accomplish anything so why beat a dead horse?

Paul Deemer

And how is your whining better than our "whining"? If you are tired of it, then just don't read it...2 people are needed for an argument... Anyway, I paid 70+25 USD for this aircraft. I love it. The 2D part that exists is great but I am simply scared that the 777 will come without any 2D cockpit at all... paying for it gives me the right to support a cause that I would think makes this aircraft better, aka "whining". But you whining on my "whining" is only destructive. If it doesn't affect then you just don't read it. It isn't that hard....
