Hi,For someone who constantly upgrades hardware, which includes new op system installs, that's a terrific feature. Will the new installer be included with the disc's in the future?.Thanks
It's been the standard ever since X Plane first started. One of the big pluses when it comes to formatting the HDD or suffering a HDD failure.I assume the installer will be updated in new printings of the DVD's.

Since X-Plane is cross platform capable, it has to run on OS's that don't implement a main registry as windows does. So all the files and resources are hard-coded directories. The plugins folder has to be defined in such a way that the sim can find it. It is a smart way to do things when the OS doesn't need to know where a program is, only the user. I've always enjoyed it's simplicity in that regard. Plus, running multiple installations for using different software setups internally (addons, settings, scenery) is a snap since you just copy the default installation files to a second directory. "C:X-Plane Default" and "C:X-Plane Test" don't have to share any registry entries and get lost in each other. Just launch the appropriate EXE in the appropriate folder and you're off to the races.

Big plus .. most update about every 24 mos .... so saving a reinstall once every 2 yrs, not that big of a deal.
Just got mine and not impressed with the cheezy cardboard case that didnt hold my DVDs, they were all loose and sliding around. Cmon for 80 bucks I want plastic.
Unfortunately this is the new way of doing things. Even high-profile releases with massive budgets, like the recent Star Wars Blu-ray boxset, are given the cardboard sleeve treatment.

I thought for sure I saw a video of Austin saying that Nils Danielsen's Hawker Hurricane would be included, it's a nice piece of payware(I bought it), that was going to be included in XP10 for free.

Planes have been added in mid version run in the past (Stinson L5 for example). I always make a point to rifle through my aircraft folders after updating to see if any new 'equipment' has been added.

My copy is scheduled for delivery today, so I'll finally get to fly somewhere other than Seattle, and for more than 10-minutes!

Get ready to see Seattle, Seattle everywhere till they come out with a new library.txt file along with the associated missing artwork and geometry. It never ceases to amaze me why Laminar takes this approach. You'd think that by Version 10, Laminar must have learnt something about their potential and existing customer base. I can only try to console people that more likely, things will get better with time - partly because :1. Laminar has improved things somewhat, perhaps not as much as you'd like.2. You have already paid for the darn thing, what are you going to do ?

It'll still be a vast improvement over FSX depicting my home town as an indistinct smear on the surface of the earth with oversized houses and trees plopped awkwardly on top.

Who knows why they take this approach. While I don't mind speaking out about some of this stuff I am sticking around to see how it turns out. Hopefully my disks will arrive soon. LR seem to be generally slow in some areas. When I heard xplane 10 was out it was from a post on another forums saying laminar research had released it so naturally I searched for laminar research and clicked on the website..http://www.laminarresearch.com/front page, three products not being sold anymore :) oh well..
