Not EVERY add on. For example, the CRJ-200 installs some specialized plug ins. I don't think installing these plug ins does anything to the registry, but don't quote me on that. I do know that dragging and dropping the CRJ-200 will not work. Displays won't work properly, if at all. You have to reinstall it from the installer. The vast majority of add ons are simply drag and drop or when they install from an installer, they just write the files to the appropriate folder without adding registry entries.

That does seem like a pretty significant QA oversight, but I've heard of worse. There was a game back in the 90's that would wipe your C drive if you ran the uninstaller. The reason this problem was discovered so quickly is that the game terrible, so there were a lot of people attempting to uninstall it.

Any word as to whether they will be reworking the discs to repair the installation issue, or are they continuing to press/burn new DVD's in the faulted state?As a sidenote, if an individual orders X-Plane, say, a month down the road - do you get the latest version on your discs freshly burnt, or are you still going to get v1.0 and need to work through an update process after installation?

What are the default aircraft? I have been on their website and there is no mention of a Cessna 172 or any type of helo being included with xplane10. Is this true? They just mention mostly jets and turboprops as the default aircraft on their site.

Most of those names have floated around since the beginning of when I got into XPlane at the end of version 6 and soon after came version 7. I can't imagine they are all best quality like the 747 that loads up at default, but some with the VCs aren't bad at all, like the GA and the Helicopters are VERY flyable from the VC, but due to the helo's being unstable themselves, well, your mileage may vary.

Hopefully Carenado will pump out a few more offerings utilizing the new features in XP10 or patch their existing offerings.

I think Laminar always sends out the latest version, when I purchased X-Plane 8 and 9 the disc contained the latest version of the sim, and not version 1.0.

Just got mine and not impressed with the cheezy cardboard case that didnt hold my DVDs, they were all loose and sliding around. Cmon for 80 bucks I want plastic.

There is a bright side. While I agree that it sux that there is a separate installer now, once it's all installed, you never have to worry about installing it again. You can copy the entire XP10 folder to a backup hard drive (just in case of a HDD crash), then if you ever format your HDD and reinstall your OS, all you do is copy and paste the whole folder back to your desktop from your Backup drive. If you ever get a corrupt file(s), just run the updater and it replaces any corrupt files you have.
