That is the worst case scenario. I installed everything on a SSD drive to help prevent this. I am wondering if I can copy my entire hard drive to a notebook and if the SSD crashes, I can just use the notebook?

This is why backups are so important... I bought a 3TB external drive the other week for $110... completely worth it if something like this happens to your main drive.

Where did you get a 3TB hard so cheap. With the flood in Thailand the $ of HDD have climb like a home sick angel. A 1 TB HDD is over $150.00+

Bummer... I've lost two big drives in about the last two years..The first was a brand new 1 TB.. Get this.. I knocked my TV remote controloff the top of my puter, and it fell down along the side into the box andhit the hard drive while it was running. Instant head crash.. :(The second one was another 1 TB that just decided to flake out..That was one month after the NGX came out, and I lost my whole sim onthat one. Had to reinstall both the sim and the NGX.I also lost a lot of movies on both of those drives, but most I've managed toreplace since then. I record a lot of movies.. I have hundreds of them onmy drives. I don't use DVD's any more, except for portable with the laptop. These newer large drives seem easy to kill. The tolerances are ultra tight, and it doesn't take much to whack one out.Actually, on the second drive, the controller flaked.out I think. That's kind what it sounds like on yours if it's not being seen in the BIOS.You might re-seat all the cables, etc before you totally condemn it to thetrash pile. A loose cable connection could cause that.Hard drive prices have been through the roof lately.. I hope they gettheir factories back going. They were starting to get really cheap beforethe floods. :/ I was thinking about another big one for movie backup, but I'm gonna wait now that the prices have shot up.The last crash, I replaced the 1 TB with a 2 TB..
