How long should it take FSX to load?

Featured Replies

Im up to 80gb with with all my addons installed. Thats not including other foldesr that FSX addons installs stuff to.FSX use to load in less than a min, but after installing about 80GB of satellite scenery, Orbx stuff, Fly Tampa, FSDT, REX2 GEX, UTX, UT2 Megascenery earth tiles ETC.. over the last 2 years, FSX now takes about 10 mins to load on a fresh reboot. I love my addons, so its worth the wait. Just wondering how long does it take on everyone elses system?Rob

Hi guys, make sure that your virus checker is set to not scan any FS files each time the sim is run (typically called "exclusions" in the scanner's settings); it'll slow down initial loading times and also lead to blurries and micro-stutters.Cheers, Holger

10 minutes is a extremely long unless you have an old computer system. I have everything you have except the satellite scenery and FEX instead of REX and FSX loads in less than 3 minutes. I found loading time increases quite a bit after installing a commercial AI program as it has to load all the flights. But still, it takes me only about 3 minutes to load and Fly. Maybe you need a defrag or the 80 gigs of satellite scenery is slowing it down. Best regards,Jim

Wow...! Do you meant from the moment you click Fly now to when you are on the tarmac? Or including starting up FSX and all?My flights take something like 30 seconds to load.... That's for instance the 737NGX in Orb's PNW KPDX with REX and ASE plus EXdok and TrackIR... I don't have addon AI and use something like 25% default AI (plus some Orbx AI here and there, I guess). But 10 minutes isn't normal, I'd say... Heck, even 3 minutes isn't normal, but as I said I don't use traffic addons. I haven't installed UTX Europe and a few Europan Aersoft airports yet, but I remember from my previous computer that those also didn't take that long to load...I am using SSD's for almost two years now: I guess that also makes a difference (when it comes to loading, although I see Jim uses SSD's and still needs 3 minutes...). The idea of having to wait 10 minutes... Man, unbelievable...! That ain't right and it ain't fun...!Quite often I restart a flight for some reason (because I forgot an option or forgot to select the right airport or forgot to plug my controller in) and that's no problem at all: even when I used to have appcrashes I didn't really mind because I would be up in the air within a minute. The idea of having to wait 10 minutes every single time... Boy... That would transform my hobby: some of my flights take 15 minutes: imagine having to wait 10 minutes in order to fly 15 minutes! I even think that I wouldn't be flying anymore if I had to wait 10 minutes....Well, anyway, in short: 10 minutes can't be right...

Seems like I have heard the Megascenery adds signifcant load times.I have Genesis Mesh, UTX, GEX, and Rex2 OD, and mine loads in like 30 seconds or so.

2:20 here with a 43GB installation. Holger hit it on the mark - anti-virus will add a lot of time to loading and during flight will cause stutters. Re-loading time is much less.

Ok. I'm going to try the antivirus thing. It sounds reasonable.I turned off all the mega scenery stuff I have and it loads in 45 secs! Big difference. I guess I'll leave it off unless I'm going to fly in that area and then I'll turn it on again. It's not a big deal. It gives me time get a glass of wine, set up my track ir and get comfortable.Rob

Yup Mega Scenery adds to that load time, nothing to do with virus scanners and so on.

Mine used to take 5 min to load, but once I got the Revodrive 45sec.

1 minute 45 seconds for me. I am using 99.9 gb on Flight Simulator.Stan

Ditto: Lots of MegaScenery and no SSD for a 10+ minute start-up!Has anyone tried the FS Scenery Manager by Lionel Uzan?Cheers,- jahman.

I have MegaScenery SOCAL and it does not delay my startup. I just reloaded FSX and it takes about a minute to get to the setup screen and less than a minute after hitting the GoFly button for KLAX. I know AI adds considerably to the startup and maybe those with long loading times have AI set to max or very high (above 50% settings).Best regards,Jim

If you are using a high lod_radius, it will increase loading times a lot.IAN

104GB's for FSX directory. Used to take almost 15 minutes on the old box. Now down to around 3 minutes.
