AivlaSoft EFB. Thinking about buying...but....

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I come to you because I have yet to receive bad advise, or guidance yet.I am really thinking about purchasing AivlaSofts EFB, to better my flying experience with the NGX. One of the main things that I really love about it, is that you can see a real time diagram of the airport, where you are, and where other traffic is. That right there is a seller to me, as I frequently travel to unknown airports, and hate having to squint at my printers crappy printout.Anyways. I am planning, if purchasing, setting it up on my laptop computer I keep beside my FSX computer.I have one issue though before I buy. I have read a lot online about how good it is, but then one issue keeps coming up about online vatsim traffic. It does not show it all the time. There is some issue where you may or may not get any traffic. As traffic is the reason I fly on VatSim, this would be a deal breaker for me. I can not find for the life of me any info on if this has been fixed, or anything past Aug 2011.If anyone here uses it with the NGX, and can please let me know, it would be great. Thanks guys.
I feel the software is by far to expensive for what it can do. If you want to buy it I don't think it should be a deal breaker if you cannot see the VatSim traffic all the time. Just use VatSpy at the same time for your VatSim trafficThx Ian

Funny, they added VATSIM traffic a couple of releases ago. I had previously owned EFB and was happy without the traffic. Since SP1, I have always had traffic and traffic updates are almost real-time as opposed to the 1 minute VATSPY updates.

Ok, lol.Question. How long did it take you guys to actually get your EFB synced with what you were cleared for with ATC.....I just spent the most time ever working on my FP leaving KDEN. I understand that there are two main "route" finders buit in, if you would want to take a chance on them.....I finally just did the manual input as I found the whole thing to be a bit overwhelming at first, even with reading the manual. For flying in the US, where unlike the UK, you KNOW your SID and STAR 99% of the time, how do you guys efficiently plan your route from SID to Arrival, leaving out the RWY as that is something I never worry about until talking to APP or have an updated ATIS.Also, I am right in assuming there just is no visual aid for the STARs. It is just broken down into Arrival and Approach and that is it?I really like it so far, the radio tuning alone at a bust airport is worth the price, but it is going to take some getting used to.

In my time I have used Navigator for FS9 recently FS Commander. I had heard a lot about EFB and decided to take the plunge. As somebody has said you get 1 month trial which sold it to me. Agreat piece of kit, a "one stop shop shop" you have everything you need and I did not find it difficult to network using simconect.

i tried it, but didn't like that most arrival charts i looked at didn't have crossing alt restrictions on the screen, but if i pulled up the chart at airnav it showed them

I initially put in the route into EFB without the Departure and arrivals when I fly on VATSIM. I save the rte file so I can load the route into the FMC. Once I have confirmed via the clearance the SID, I then punch it into the EFB and FMC. Time has not been an issue. I then select the STAR and approach I think I will get based on current weather and change the STAR and approach as needed. There is a visual SID and STAR function. I think it is called STAR/SID Overview. EFB will make a graphically map showing the various STAR/SID routes so you can see which are appropriate.I agree with you concerning the frequency strip and the ability to set the radios. Great function. I requested and they said they will add NAV and maybe transponder as well. You will learn as time moves on that the EFB will improve with new functions a couple of times per year. I had purchased a used touchscreen on ebay (ELO) for about $100. Using EFB in touchscreen mode is much faster.

Hi allI have just spent the time to read this thread and it's great to see another happy customer. I got the free trial for EFB over a year ago and within a week made up my mind and bought it. When I got it there was no online traffic depicted in EFB but that didn't matter as it ws the flightplanning that meant more to me. Within a month of downloading I was invited to be a beta tester and so have been a part of all recent major developments in the past year. All my flights are conducted online and with EFB running. One thing I have noticed since the development of the route handlers is how many people just import the flightplans into their CDU's, something I have never done much preferring to input my own flightplans into the CDU.Keep on planning, see you in the skiesWycliffe Barrett

Another happy new customer here. I just bought the licence yesterday after having used the trial version over the weekend - very pleased with it, I like it a lot.I too prefer to manually put everything into the FMC. I find also the charts, particularly for SIDS and STARS, invaluable - makes it much easier to decide which I need. With vRoute Premium for example, you only get a list of available charts, which then have to be opened one by one to find the right one you need (unless you're already familiar with the approaches/departures).My two cents.

Is FS Commander and EFB/aivlasoft the same thing???

Is FS Commander and EFB/aivlasoft the same thing???
Not quite. I have and use both (EFB still in trial version). They have a number of similar functions (they both have for example moving maps). I would say that EFB is more versatile (can show the aircraft in the approach charts, for example) but to be honest for those that already have FSC I am not sure if it is a good the investment because it is pricy (you use either one - not both). I am still exploring it and by the end of the trial period I will decide whether to buy it or not.

Just found the SID/STAR overview. Just what I wanted. Yes I am completelybhappy with this. I am not sure though why you see no online traffic with it though, I saw a ton last night from KDEN - KLAX. I do run the display on another computer though. The only issue I am having is it seems user error, as I am horrible at networking, and can only make a temp connection by entering my computers username and password each time. And I am also not able to save the rte file from the display computer to my FSX computer. But as you guys, I an not worried about it, as I input it into my FMC myself.I actually confused ATC last night with the rocki7 departure, because the efb placed not rocki7 in the fsinn FPer, but each actual waypoint and fix....he asked me if I could comply with ROCKI7 and I had to tell Him that'd what it was, but just the actual fixes etc.....

In the network control panel, you can turn off passwords. Sounds like you need to create a HomeGroup. It sounds like you are saving the rte file to FSINN. I turn that off for the reason you described and manually enter the flight plan. I think FSINN picks up the FSX plan file.Edit: I do see traffic. Had no problems since SP1.

Thx for you answer ;)
"From December 3rd, 2011 until December 31st, 2011 we offer you a discount of 25% on the normal retail price for each purchase of an EFB license key."Go ahead !! EFB/aivlasoft is THE best moving map ever made with really a great support !!I can't imagine flying without EFB
Just purchased it taking advantage of the 25% discount. Did not start using it yet but everything looks very professionally done. Don't think anybody can be disapointed...Benny K

I managed to convince the wife that she would be much better off with a PC rather than a Laptop. So i built her a nice PC and did her a favour and took the Laptop off her hands and purchased a licence for Aivlasoft EFB for 25% off.I spent the day yesterday getting things set up on a home network and then did a trial run from KSFO to KLAX. I downloaded a flightplan from 'Route Finder' (excluding the SID &STAR), saved it to my NGX flightplans folder, after which i entered it into the COroute spot in my NGX FMS and then added the SID & STAR to my EFB plan (did Star as well for the trial run) After this i entered the same depatures and arrivals into my NGX FMS, edited the legs and and checked it with my EFB route, then went to LA.I,ve got to say that even though i have only scatched the surface and have a lot to learn, EFB is worth every penny. I can't say how impressed i am and yes William, there is a steep learning curve, but i think it's going to be worth it.Regards,

Rick Hobbs
