No 3rd party content in Flight

Featured Replies

You mean the P3D licence that lets anyone be a 'developer' for $10 per month?
Anyone being the few that actually know how and where to get Prepar3d, or what it even is. That's going to be a tiny, niche group of users. You're not going to see Prepar3d sitting on the shelf at Best Buy or advertised except by word on forums like these, so it won't have a consumer user base.

What are some of the 3rd party guys saying? Are they happy or indifferent?
I think it depends on a lot of things - but mainly; what can we do with the SDK (if anything). I'm not holding out much hope.

Proof will be in addon sales. Sure will be interresting if the young gamers will get hooked.
Last year I chatted to my work colleagues who like me are into PC gaming, however, unlike me aren't into Flight Simulators. I asked them what would make them interested in Flight Simulation. The answer was, if anything, something to shoot at, as in combat flight simulation (which isn't in Flight).I'm not at work this week so I can't ask them until next week, but somehow if I ask them if they would be interested in flying through gold coins in the sky or hunting for aerocaches the answer would be "well, no, not really". They may be interested in trying out the free version but I suspect they would lose interest after a couple of evenings and they certainly wouldn't pay for more content. They would instead go back to playing Skyrim. So it will be interesting indeed to see if young games get hooked or will be instead buying more content for Skyrim, and MW3 etc.

Most shortcomings already mentioned but I will add no VATSIM/IVAO or similar online flying.
Yes, as far as I can tell, that is the case. You will be limited to flying in a "room" with 20 other players, max.I said it earlier and am not sure that it might of slipped by un-noticed...Freeware won't exist in FLIGHT as far as I can tell. Also, I would venture to guess that liveries, such as United, BA, Lufthanza, etc. will have gone the way of the dodo. MS won't want to sign up for licensing, and won't assume the liability of accepting unlicensed a/c from others.

"The game will feature it’s own marketplace, with content regulated by Microsoft. There will be no scenery development kit and hence no user created content.

Once I read this in the above article, I stopped reading any further.

I feel deflated and let down to be honest.

God knows how 3rd party developers feel, who's bread and butter this could have been....

You would have to be blind not to know how "they" would react. I just can't figure out the audience at this time, in my very limited opinion the only arcadish simulators that work involve surround sound, and lots of things blowing up... But I suppose you could always DLC the 50 cal. What are some of the 3rd party guys saying? Are they happy or indifferent? Is everyone standing around the water cooler saying, "well we better rethink our business model," or did they have a pretty good idea that Flight wasn't going to be their platform going forward? From the outside looking in, I am very concerned for the community as a whole.
Sigh....only speculations AGAIN as what I said was never taking seriously, (poor poor pitiful me)

)but let me tell you, they are (the dev.) pi$$ed....as I said a long time ago, some dev. were in bed with MS (Yes Tom I know who's the nameless one, I ain't telling also) and MS was impressed about what 3RD party developers were able to do with FSX, well, they got the shaft from MS, why do you think there is a poll here asking how much you'll be welling to pay for addons for Flight and if you'll buy them.....blah blah blah...I also said that MS were well aware of what we were thinking (just read some of my old post).

Lockheed isnt in the business of selling simulators to the consumer market, they are infact specifically prohibited to do so according to their licensing agreement with Microsoft in regards to ESP / Prepar3d
I am well aware of what they are allowed to do. This does not negate the fact that more people may purchase licenses for it now that this news has come out.

Microsoft regulated (they don't say Microsoft created - big difference) - i guess a bit like appstore - so microsoft decides if the quality is good enough and which developers is let in - that might mean that selected developers might be able to add content - like maybe PMDG - i'm still positive on this - time will show ;)

Microsoft better have put a lot of effort into locking the game down to keep it from being hacked because I foresee a strong push by people wanting to put their own content into it. Its probably just a matter of time before the game is cracked like the Wii, iPhone, or any other proprietary platform over which people wanted more control.

No doubt, I had my credit card information in the xplane 10 website with a knotting feeling in my stomach about 2 or 3 weeks ago... I decided to wait and read reviews, then I saw the Flight page and was like "finally flight sim X updated for today's hardware so I don't have to keep my whql 197 drivers on my computer all the time!" Then I read this press release and I feel like I will never hear my beloved MD11 say "Flaaaps... Stabalizer..." to me again.

I highly doubt people will put this much effort into this POS.

Yeah but naturally M$ will still eat part of their addons price, which means that if they want to get as much money from their addons as they got in FSX times product price needs to be much higher than it is with products for FSX, and then price will probably go too high. I cant see why any dev would want to give part of their income to M$ when they can make addon for X plane 10 or FSX and sell it without giving anything to Microsoft. Actually one post said that one developer did not come agreement with Microsoft because of this issue...

Its a dolled up and performance tuned FSX that's missing the content. There is huge potential if it can be unlocked. Like a throttled sports car engine sitting in a base model compact, or for you geeks, a six core sandy bridge running at 1.0 GHz with the multiplier locked.

If MS was smart they would realize how much money the community has locked into FSX, they would revamp FSX and call it the "MS flight hardcore edition" make it backward compatible with FSX and 2004 and then throw a $400 price tag on it. We would hate them for it but I bet some of us would buy it in a year or two, starving for a sim.

Just a patch for FSX of the work done on Flight (since Flight is based on FSX) increasing the performance of FSX (DX10) screwing all your FSX's addons and we will have to start all over again (assuming you install the patch)...can that be done....naaaaa....can it???
