Beta 10

By no means am I speaking for LR, but it's not unusual to omit some things to see if something else works or is improved. Then possibly find a way to bring back the features that were omitted previously when everything else is working properly. There could be various reasons for why they did what they did. I know its been said before, but just be patient.

I have not been following. Was this in the release notes? I mean unless they are changing something to specifically get feedback on a new idea then it looks like this is how they are looking to do it. With dcs beta we got told this kind of stuff so we were no in the dark guessing, especially if they want feedback on a change to a process which is not the same as a bug.

No.

No one knows.

Dont you think during a beta, release notes are useful? People dont know if they should log a bug or not. As you say, no one knows why they did that. How does that leverage the user base to be useful beta testers? If the beta note said temporarily changed cloud slider for xxx then we as beta testers wouldnt be wasnt our time wondering about it, or logging bugs etc. It's not DCS but there are good and bad ways to use your paying beta testers. Release notes is one of them. If they cant utilise us properly then we are just sheep on the $mega_shok.gif ride.

They make release notes. They always have. Like I said, I can't speak for Laminar. They have a reason for doing things. Should they have explained why they took out the sliders? Depends on the circumstances. Every dev team has different ways of doing things. There is no right or wrong method. What works for some, doesn't work for others. Your last statement is purely your opinion. And, of course, you are entitled to it. I disagree, however.Personally, I haven't filed one single bug report. I'm just using XP10 so far to find out what I have to fix in my own add ons. Once it gets out of beta, then I'll be using it a lot more.

Yes, it is my opinion based on my experience with beta testing all sorts of software. Those developers seemed to know how to use the beta testers in a more effective way. If you don't use your beta testers and don't inform them of what you are doing so they know what to expect, what it right/wrong/unintentional then what use are they other than the $$ they brought to the company?

Hence my frustration. Don't forget, "WE" paid for this program. If he wants us to blindly Beta test a program, perhaps he should be paying "US". Agian I don't mind that it's ever evolving, that's a good thing, stepping backwards at the expense of the paying customer is not, and should be corrected alot quicker than this has been.Glen
X-Plane 10.03 Beta 10
  • Fix for hang while flying with AI planes or on startup
  • Fix for missing DSF tile on really heavily loaded machine (this is a really rare bug)

It says nothing in there about the cloud system being basically totally overhauled. The point is, if it did, I may have decided to not apply the update and continued to enjoy the visuals I had. He can test things, and then offer them when there proven to work. I, as a paying customer should be informed of "ALL" the changes that may impact my experience, so I can decide what I want to do.

etc; etc;Isn't there a little box that says tick here if you would like to be involved in the beta upgrades. Haven't checked back but I'm sure I saw one there.

Glen,Please read the section I highlighted in my quote.

They disabled that tick, they said it in their blog but given that every upgrade is a beta it's a matter of not running the updater rather than not ticking the box.

Fixing something that ain't broke.Laminar did that ?Nah !
I don't think that my FSX default clouds look too bad.
They're not bad... for 2D clouds.

everybody posting in this forum, including you, is aware that x-plane 10 is still heavily modifying & optimizing the code. So there are and will be backlashs - at least until the official release x-plane global scenary end of february. And even then LM will provide frequent updates - as all the other software producers do. fsx is an excpetion here, and we know why...so don't just rant around here, in other forums you would be called a troll...

For the record, m_av actually is a troll. He claims to be an X-Plane enthusiast but never has a good word to say about it or Laminar Research.
