Microsoft Tells It How It Is On XBox Channel, Announces Spring Release

Featured Replies

I think this an official video, on a YouTube channel named "InsideXBOX" with a narrator that talks about Flight:<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0xyPwxiF8Hc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>Personally, made me a little sick, it truly is just a Hawaii flying game. I think those are the same specs as FSX too. So I think I'd be better off just joining the crowd and sticking with FSX.An official Microsoft blog here announces a spring release:http://windowsteambl...his-spring.aspxThe only truly good thing about it from what I can tell is that it's free, or so they say. So personally, I want to see someone try importing the new aircraft into FSX to see if it works.Apologies if this is a duplicate thread.

Once again nice to see they updated FSX the way it was meant to be and then gave it to the gamers... It's not really the fact that they made a flying "game" it's the fact that they drug us on for a year before they told us that.We saw this with the Battlefield series and also Crysis. Taking two excellent, true PC exclusives that were made more popular by the PC fan base only to put it on console, dumb it down and port it to the PC slapping everyone in the face.

After watching this video, I think I'm going to puke. It's like they took FSX, and combined it with grand theft auto.

It's not just Hawaii, that's only in the free version, if you pay for the full version you get more areas. It looks like they've decided to build it modules so you get the first part free and then just keep buying addons.I think it looks good and you really need to give it a try before slaggin it off so much, how can anyone judge a game by just watching a video?I'm personally looking forward to trying it, after all it adds another option to all the others I already have.Try it first, if you don't like it stick to FSX or what ever else you prefer.CheersMartin.PS. Don't see Grand Theft Auto in there at all, sorry.

I hope you don't use aircraft such as PMDG/Level D/IFly and all the others that produce good aircraft then? Because at the moment it doesn't look like that is going to happen with Flight because they are asking for too much.

I use A2A Spitfire and I fly properly as much as possible, I just don't see how everyone can be so negative without even trying it, I have also flown the PMDG stuff etc.The problem is you all got a little too excited thinking Microsoft was about to release the X-Plane buster and create a major performance boost over FSX that you're all now feeling let down. I think Flight could become a major player but it won't if everyone gives up on it before it's even released. So give it a chance and maybe just maybe it'll become the dream you're looking for.One can only hope.CheersMartin.PS. Please don't bother starting an X-Plane vs FSX war as I use em all and I am very happy with all of them, just thought I'd point that out. :(

Because when Orbx comes out and basically says they won't be devleoping it for a number of reasons. It makes me wonder if anyone will? PMDG's next two projects are for FSX and they aren't doing anything for Flight secertly either. I still have a bit of hope that Flight may be just more than what we can see at the moment. Ah well, we have still got FSX.

The "Big Island" is free, the "other areas" you have to pay for are the rest of the chain. There is no word about the rest of the world, MS has gone out of it's way to pimp O'ahu (which you have to pay for.)

A good number of critics are FS9 or FSX users and have tweaked their respective sims, the result being quality very close to what Flight has shown.I have FSX with some free graphics tweaks + REX + MegasceneryX O'ahu + FSDT Honolulu, and the result is very close to what MS has shown of Flight. Now in FSX I have the whole planet and by default aircraft representative of each classification.MS has stated as fact that the inital release will be Hawaii with single prop GA aircraft only (the Big Island with the Icon A5 and Stearman is the "Demo".)We have no word about other locations, not even a rough scedule of what to expect for Flight's first year of Add-ons, with respect to aircraft we just have a vague statement that any type of aircraft is possible. So to a serious simmer flight has nothing to offer, FS9/FSX are a nigh match in quality when tweaked, and a healthy third party enviroment means those worlds a thuroughly alive.Flight has easter egg hunts (Aero-caches, that tunnel fly through at 1:20 sent up a red flag) and the video says that with the missions and challenges you "unlock" 'hidden content', MSFS has never had that restriction in the past, so in Flight if you want some planes, you've got to fly through that lava tunnel collecting Aero-caches (that is ARCADE not SIMULATION.)Flight is perfect for a "No Bloodshed" household (those parents whom have their kids avoid violent games and TV like a plauge) because it doesn't feature any form of combat and it's a lot of fun for the kids.Beyond that most of the "casual" crowd is going to get bored since they can't(A.): Blow stuff up( B.): Re-enact 9/11(C.): Re-enact the airline crash of the decadeAs far as Hardcore Simmers go, Flight is too small (Hawaii only, until...whenever M$ feels like it) and too focoused one Arcade play (Mission/Challenge/Easter Egg achievements unlock "Content") for enjoyable simulating.

Lame and stupid, 2 words that come to mind after seeing that pathetic excuse for a flightsim video. Makes u wonder if MS is operating in a vacuum where they think they dictate what consumers like. Being able to identify your target market is not rocket science, especially after having successfully released 10 titles over 30 years. So how could they get it so wrong? Would love to find out the inside story someday....Sam

Very much I agree. Actually my whole right belief from the start that Flight will be Hawaii flying game was partially based on untrust to gaming developers that I got when Crysis that I liked very much was dumbed down in Crysis 2. I didnt play even hour of it because it was so bad. BF3 is not all bad although dumbed down from BF2, but its still enjoyable. Anyways at least I still have Arma 2...

Hi,For those around awhile, there was another flight simulator that was dedicated to one area "California". Guess what happened to that sim?.

Former Beta Tester - (for a few companies) - As well as provide Regional Voice Set Recordings

                Two: AMD-9950X | One: AMD-7950X3D | Three: Asus TUF 4090s | Three: 64GB DDR5 RAM 6000mhz | Three: Cosair 1300 P/S | Three: 990Pro 2TB NVME                    One: Eugenius ECS2512 - 2.5 GHz Switch | Three: Ice Giant Elite CPU Coolers | Three: 75" 4K UHDTVs | One: Boeing 737NG Flight Deck

I like how the first thing they mention is that it is "one of the most successful franchises of all time" but if it was so successful why hack it to pieces and change it up?

First Frame - CRUDE HUMOURIndeed, that sums up the entire farce of a 'game'

My recollection of it is that it garnered a pretty decent following of hardcore players who, for the first time, had a sim which brought amazing weather effects and a large region of photoreal scenery to the mix. I never got into that particular sim series because of the limited regional scope, but for people more interested in flying than seeing the world, it was a pretty good success. Eventually that series fell by the wayside as the other competing simulation packages caught up and began including features which were once only available in Flight Unlimited.Contrast that with MS Flight, which while (currently) regionally limited to Hawaii, isn't a trailblazer in simulation fidelity and experiences. I'd compare Flight Unlimited more with the new Aerofly sim out of Switzerland than with MS Flight. Unless things change, MS Flight should really not be compared with ANY of the simulators that we currently use today - FS2004, FSX, XP9, XP10, and even FU1/2/3. -Greg
