You could, or a cheaper alternative would be to try Shade (Google 'Shade FSX')!It's a small price, but it makes a big difference to the sims look and feel. It's slightly different to ENB, but I now use it instead. It's also far easier to customise as it has a number of preset themes, a bit like REX. It's certainly cheaper than upgrading your video card! blum.gif

I had that problem as well, particularly when switching between windowed mode and full screen. I didn't spend much time looking for a fix, but I sort of got around it by disabling the effect in the enbseries.ini. What it does is require you to activate the effect with Shift+F12, and you'll have to reactivate it every time you look at the map or a menu, but for me anyway it allows me to use enb because it doesn't try to load the effect at the same time the graphics card is trying to deal with the 2D to 3D screen change. Once the change is overwith and the VC view or whatever has stabilized, I can then enable enb with Shift+F12 and everything is fine.To disable the effect you need the following in the .ini (you probably have "UseEffect=1" currently):[GLOBAL]UseEffect=0Jim

I don't think you can compare ENB with Shade. They do totally different things. Shade has only ONE trick (editing shadows) and ENB doesn't do that at all. And everything ENB does, Shade can't do. You could say they both can make things look darker, but that's it, really.

People keep suggesting Shade as an alternative to ENB. Why? They do different things! The other day someone also suggested using FXAA instead of ENB, but that again does something different! If you want that ENB bloom look, then that's all that will do it. I don't see people suggesting ActiveSky as an alternative to Ultimate Terrain. Because they do completely different things. Shade, ENB, FXAA, different things folks.

When Iinitially tried the EMB mod, it was too dramatic. I tried a few different ini files which were not perfect, so I got hold of the EMB manual and read up on what the entires do. I was then able to edit the ini to achieve what I wanted (which inthe main really just involved toning down someof the settings a little. It took a bit of experimentation, but the advantage is that everyones system setup and monitor is different and DIY is the only way to get exactly what you want and suits your system.IAN

My FSX couldn't run stable with the enbseries either, so I deleted them. No sweat. Use a LCD TV for flight sim and adjust the image to my liking on the TV.

ENBSeries is nice, however there is an alternative which is "Shade" by Mogwaisoft:http://www.flightsim...roducts_id=1894Coming in at just under USD $11.00 it is a fantastic product and very easy to use.
As mentioned in two separate posts above, Shade is not an alternative to ENB. They do completely different things.

I had ENB related CTDs in every single fsx session when accessing the menus until I deleted ALL "uiautomationcore.dll" files from my system (keeping backups of course). Two months have passed and not a single CTD since..

I see little difference other than one shader is stable and the other is not. ENB was nice when it first came out but I subsequently had a lot of issues so uninstalled it. Best regards,Jim

Did you keep the ENB mod though?

Shade edits the FSX shade itself. ENB doesn't even touch the FSX shade: it changes the overall colors and does a lot more besides (bloom being on of the main features for FSX). Calling Shade the same as ENB is like (for example) calling REX the same as GEX: they both do things with FSX but not the same.Of course everyone is free to prefer one above the other (when you only look at how they both can make things darker or lighter) but they are not the same. In fact, they can both be used together. Edited by J van E
