Listen to the last video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0XuoC79IKoYand hear the guy say what FLIGHT really is.Go to 3 min 28 sec and listen and then you know this isn't a FSX succesor in any way.Sad , but true.

Of course it's not! I don't recall anyone who actually knows anything about Flight ever saying it was intended to be... :(

Then why not make a Harry Potter broomstick simulator instead? The target audience would certainly find that flight "experience" much more fun.Edit: Oops, I hope I didn't give MS any ideas for DLC: Harry Potter Broomstick: 600 Microsoft Points.

Or sell us a hang glider (for $2).And maybe a very high bridge or skyscraper (for $1) for base jumping.

I am certainly NOT their targeted audience but I have really enjoyed Flight for the last few weeks. It's so stable and the flight dynamics are great. FSX feels and looks OLD now after using this. +The terrain/scenery is stunning to say the least.Fred.

Microsoft is staying consistent with it's marketing campaign that is targeted towards aspiring desktop pilots. They are not trying to "lure in" people who already know how to "play" FSX. Those sales are already in their future ledger book. Their past experience has told them that FSX has become too complicated for many new users and was a leading cause to it's steady decline in sales, so they've predictably harped on how accessible Flight is to newbies. More complicated / "real" features will be added as these newbies are brought up to speed. Flight will mature into a full-blown simulator when the time is right - the whole point of this launch is to get new customers, not a dwindling subset of FSX'ers.
More complicated / "real" features will be added as these newbies are brought up to speed.
I doubt this, my bet is we will see a bunch more simplified add-ons for the masses into the future.

So, start out with it simple and then make it simpler?

I've quoted this before - years ago, "Wild" Bill Stealy (MicroProse co-founder) told me that their F-19 Stealth Fighter was designed for people who wanted to have the experience of being a stealth fighter pilot, not for those who wanted to learn how to operate the aircraft. It made for a pretty memorable experience - not like its competitors, then or now, but compelling in its own right. So I understand where they might be coming from - emphasis on "might."I also agree that what we're seeing right now is a marketing direction - it may or may not reflect the full scope of what gets into the sim eventually. Emphasis on "may or may not."

@Rush - No, just keep it simple.

I remember the joke about a woodpigeon in another forum. I think we got a winner.

I'm surprise nobody is hitting on the fact that Microsoft is telling YOU how to enjoy the act of flight. To some guys the enjoyment of flight comes from taking off and crashing into buildings. For others, it's throwing switches, turning dials and shooting CAT 2 approaches after a 7 hour transcon. With "Flight" they are essentially telling you how to enjoy flight by limiting terrain area, complexity and type of planes and their missions.

Agree totally, and I've stated nearly the same views here (although not as well as you just did). And let's not leave out the other main factor ... to produce revenue, by selling DLC, while Flight is still in development,

As hard as we and other pro-Flight forum members try to explain the big picture, the past, present and future path of FS, the marketing model and it's reasoning, the launch content and it's reasoning, the current lack of features and it's reasoning, and all the other reasoning to the reasons, many just do not get it, will not get it, and refuse to get it until they see it. The anti-Flight group can always and do always pick things out of context and lay claim to a red-herring. It's just Hawaii! There are not jets! You just pick up coins! It's only for arcade game players! There is no ATC!You use a mouse! It's just a carplane! There is no IFR!The world content will be $6M!The list is endless and results in endless "discussions" of each element until it comes around full-circle and we start over. I don't get it, but that's OK. I think we'll have fun :)

I have the "Avatar" game for Wii... there is a very good dragon riding simulator that you control with the balance board. Oh yes, there's a Segway for Wii too...A Harry Potter broom in FSX? Yeah, why not? I already have a flying vicar on a "solex" push bike with an engine in the front basket...
