Can't Even Negotiate the Balloons

Featured Replies

Having some serious problems here. When I first fired up Flight and tried to do the balloon thing I found it difficult because of the over-sensitivity of the controls. I use a CH yoke, pedals, and throttle. Anyhow, I tried to set the axis in the options menu. Don't know I did, but now the plane is completely uncontrollable. It banks sharply to the right and nose dives straight into the ground. I had previously posted that I was having problems calibrating the controls. Should have said setting the axis instead. So I uninstalled Flight and reinstalled it. Several times. Still have the same problem.Have tried to set the axis again but no matter what I do I get the same result. I notice that when trying to fly to the first balloon, the left aielron is full down and the right is full up and don't respond to my yoke input. Can't pull up either. Hence a crash.Does anybody have a clue as to what is going on here? Sure would like to get into this sim and check it out.Thanks.Jim

Hmm I have not had that problem, on my Cougar HOTAS setup, although the controls are a little too sensitive for my liking - but I managed to ace the first two missions on the first attempt. Is your controllers calibrated properly in Windows or in the CH software? Also make sure the axis are assigned properly in the contols section of Flight, ie like aileron, make sure it is on the proper axis - don't pick where it says aileron left, aileron right, just pick the aileron and move the correct axis for aileron control, etc...

Also make sure you have mouse mode turned off. The spacebar will toggle mouse mode on & off.

You don't need to uninstall-reinstall the game.If you don't have a copy of the original Standard.xml file, you can reset the Game Controls and Aircraft Controls to "Defaults" under options.Be sure to select all your controls from the dropdown combobox on top of the screen.Tweaking the Standard.xml is tricky at the moment, since most of us don't know the exact values for some of the options.

I had the same problem with my joystick, to the point that some things (like the famous coin obstacle course) seemed impossible. Some people are editing files to change joystick sensitivities. The only other option might be hooking your Xbox controller up, if you have one. Right now, Flight and the Xbox controller are soul-mates.

Wow I observed that same thing except it was with FSX and the Xbox controller... and it lasted 5 years.

Someone posted some good values but try going from 1.0 to 0.9 etc (and what 4 zeros? 0.90000) for the Y and / or X axis.

Hmmmm? Have you tried it with an xbox controller? If you had, you would see that the keys are automatically mapped and the control sensitivities are perfect. Even pictures and descriptions such as Press "X" or "B" pop up onscreen. (along with pictures of other Xbox controller buttons)Obviously this was at least one device that the developers tested with.Show me where prompts for Xbox controllers show up visually on your fsx screens, and we are cool.

I had not thought about using an Xbox controller. I'm currently using an old Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro. How does the rudder control work with the 360 pad?

I have tried all of your suggestions with no joy. Don't have an XBox. This has really got me stumped. I can't fly with a yoke, mouse, or keyboard.Jim

Rudder (axis) is auto set to the two triggersAnd you don't need an xbox, just an xbox controller. (Don't know about the wireless ones)With two kids in the house, I practically trip over the things! :LMAO:

The Xbox controller is perfect for simming - I've used it for about 5 years as well. One of the great things about it is being potable - I can hardly take my x52 and rudder pedals on a business trip with my laptop! The Xbox controller fits in an overnight bag easily. It's also usable for other games - GTA4, Just Cause 2, etc. yes, I play other genres as well.

I just went so far a disconnecting the yoke to see if I could fly with the mouse or keyboard. Same results. I installed the game on my other computer and it works fine. Even copied the cfg from the good computer and replaced the bad computer cfg. Same results.Again I removed Flight and every folder associated with it. Reinstalled Same results. This does not make any sense to me at all. What is keeping me from controling the plane? It does the exact thing every time. Sharp bank to the left and nose dive into Hawaii turf. Getting desparate here.Jim

Unplug and plug in your USB cable. It's likely that Windows lost the connection in it's driver.
