Just completed Tutorial #2

And just in time my printer decided to screw with me... I had a free day today, so I fired the printer up to print this baby, but never ended. It all began OK, but halfway to the goal it began to chew paper. After trying for 3h to print out I never finished printing it and I gave up... Oh well, will have to do this one after the exams...

Commenting only for myself, I completed the flight today and posted after. I'd say a three hour period between 1200 and 1500 Eastern (US) if that's any help.It was raining in EHAM when I started.Gotta say, this was an excellent tutorial!
Thanks skewr and kev,I have yet to try the tutorial but have looked at it after installing SP1c, abd I agree with other here, probably the most comprehensive I have seen. I particularly like the use of Topcat/Thanks to Ryan for what must have taken a lot of work to produce, and to everyone that was a part of SP1c.Bruce.

Working the weekend over here in LA despite the 80 degree weather (the life of a public accountant). Can't wait to get home to fly this thing. Thanks Ryan!
So coo there more then one of us who lives in L.A too.. Yea I just got in today from my trip to this hot weather .. I was dying of heat lol...But im going to try the tutorial tonight.. I been dying tooCarlitos Colon..

Absolutely outstanding tutorial Ryan. I always wondered what to do with all that weather data and I purchased TOPCAT this morning just to use with your tutorial. After flying with no weather, I launched another tutorial flight using AS2012 and had significant cloud cover and fog pretty much down to the runway. I had noticed that RWY 26 appeared to have glideslope information during the first visual flight so I set up for an autoland. I am sure all you experienced pilots know what happened next. Yes, I got fired as a PMDG 738 pilot because I landed about 60 feet to the left of runway 26 after destroying the lights, the antenna, and a whole lot of grass. Needless to say I turned my PMDG over to the maintenance team for a full airframe inspection.I learned a valuable lesson today in addtion to everything Ryan taught me. Read and understand the charts and all the quirks about the airport! What I failed to recognize is that when flying by IFR you can make a LLZ/DME approach from either west or east, both take you down the valley. Once in the valley, a final Visual Approach Procedure is required before landing. For both LLZ/DME approaches there exists a visual procedure for a rwy 8 and rwy 26 landing. Due to terrain in front of rwy 8, a straight-in landing is only possible at the east approach on rwy 26 (LLZ offset 5° from runway). The most difficult one is the west approach rwy 8 landing that requires two visual right turns at about 180° in the valley before landing. Landing on rwy 8 from either LLZ/DME approach is difficult because it is almost impossible to keep visual contact with the rwy during the right-hand circuit (in larger planes). NOTE: The LLZ/DME 26 is simulated as ILS/DME in FSX because you have glide slope available on some of the approach. Thanks again Ryan for all your hard work and hopefully I will get my NGX back from the maintenance team soon!
Yes, very important point here. LOC + GS does not = autoland. The G/S at Innsbruck is advisory only and both localizers and glideslopes (east and west) are hugely offset from the runway. *ALL* approaches at LOWI are non-precision, there is no "ILS".Even if it was an ILS, in real life this rarely means you can actually autoland on it. Autolands are by far the exception in real life - you need a Cat II or III certified runway and ILS transmitters, the airplane needs to be certified and the crew themselves must be certified and trained for it. Every single real life airline pilot I know will not autoland unless it's absolutely necessary for crew or aircraft certification recurrency or if the visibility actually requires it. Pilots actually like to fly their aircraft and approach/landing are one of the only times they get to do it at this point with the automation that's used for the rest of the flight. You take the visual every time.

I'd like to echo most everything said here, tutorial 2 was exceptional work and fun too. I got a bit confused towards the end and somehow FMC clicked my way into a messed up route.. so long story short, I set myself up for a visual app for 08 and put her down safely. I plan on loading (I save often) back a bit and repeating the last part to see where I made a mistake and enjoy the app once more but with weather this time. Will post some pics. Thanks for the exceptional work and products PMDG and thanks to everyone that made Tutorial #2 happen, I know Ryan had to have had a little tinsy bit of help on that one!

"Very well written and presented Ryan" + 1 !I was expecting the W proc LLZ/DME via the KTI NDB followed by the visual approach, but the LLZ East proc via RTT is not 'that bad"Just something I don't fully understand (page 118) :"Press DEP ARR and select the LOWI ARRIVALS page.- Select Runway 08, which clears out the LOC/DMEEAST procedure. We’re doing this....- Press LSK 3L to copy RW08 and then press LSK 1L toenter a direct to. Then enter the extended runwaycenterline course, 079 into the LSK 6R DIR INTC field. This sets up a magenta line ....."on the LOWI arrival page 1/2, I've no problem to select the rwy 08, but the LSK 3L shows the ELME1A arrival ?? it does not copy the rwy 08. What do I miss ? or is there someting missing in the tuto between those 2 actions ?On which FMC page do I enter the 079° course with the LSK 6R DIR INTC field to set up a magenta line ?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Merci d'avance

Having just in the past breezed into LOWI on a visual approach for 26 I was really blown away by this tutorial. The level of detail, the plain English and step by step guide to this tutorial is phenomenal. I was putting things in the FMCthat I have never even heard of.I did the full tutorial first, and whilst being worried by the terrain on the left as we past abeam the runway I got down in a satisfactory fashion. I then reloaded at the start of the approach and did it all again a little more accurately.I have no words to describe how good this thing is.Thanks Ryan, and all the team at PMDG for your dedication on this project. Oh, and also for resetting my activation (again)Best regards Jason Lee

DitoBTW if you want ATC, copy the fight plan into FSBuild2 export to fsx and load the flight plan with out moving there. Then load as in tutorial,

I also wanted to commend Ryan and everyone involved in this tutorial. I learned a few things, including that "neat" shortcut in adding airways (and letting the FMC fill in the intermediate waypoint). One question about the fuel planning. On page 45, it says to enter the reserves (3.6, in the example) to the LSK 4L. It further explains that this is the fuel needed to get from Innsbrouck to the alternate destination (Munich). I always thought that the "reserve" fuel was the absolute minumum you should have in your tanks after landing, and should never go below that amount. If I'm entering the "reserve" as the fuel to get from LOWI to EDDM, where exactly do I enter my minimum fuel number? Many thanks

I never thought anything would come close to my experience last year of flying into Innsbruck in the observer seat but I was wrong. Everything came back to me flying this approach. Thanks RyanMartin

Where does one download T2?
At first, I didn't understand your question and almost joked that you should ask SkyNet...and then I decided I'd joke anyway.T2 may be downloaded through SkyNet, but be careful. It's still self-aware.
