I am curious if everyone is as surprised as I am by the announcement of Alaska. I did expect new scenery to come quickly, but I never ever expected it to be so BIG...!!!

Its not big enough

LOL I guess you voted NO, but the question wasn't if you WANTED such a huge area but if you EXPECTED it... which is quite a difference...! What we want isn't what I am trying to find out with this poll, but what people expected.

Not voted at all

Ok, haha!

It honestly would not surprise me if MS already has the next years' worth of DLC already or mostly completed. They will slowly meter it out as to not overwhelm or break anyone's budget. If they did any amount of research, they would know how fast this community chews through content (not quite as bad as the MMO group, but close), that in mind by releasing a couple DLC (big or small) it will keep the game fresh longer.

I agree that there is probably a lot more waiting in the wings. Given how long it would take to develop, they would need to have some sort of backlog in order to keep new releases regular. Whilst it is obviously possible to saturate the market they would not want to have several months between releases either. That said, I wonder if most of the stuff they have largely completed is scenery and not aircraft. We saw a job advertised not long ago that was for someone working on the aircraft side of things.

When I first played Flight during the beta, I was very impressed at how finished it was. Yes, it lacked some important features (and still does), but what we began testing on day one was very stable, solid game that was nearly ready for release . . . and that was two months ago. And the Flight Team is not just a few people, but includes 40 or 50 people, and I didn't believe that the entire team was still working on Flight's core or on the Hawaii scenery. So I wasn't surprised that such a large area of scenery is being released so soon . . . but Alaska was a nice surprise. And I'm hoping that there's a third part of the Team, who are working on adding the missing features that we all want (ATC, AI, RWW, AP).

This is exactly the direction I was expecting Microsoft to take this. Hopefully the next add-on introduces some Australian outback flying.

Yes, I agree Arwen. They must know how much more appealing that would make Flight! I really hope they do. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying Flight... but I think it's the "little boy" inside of me that is enjoying it. The "old man" in me is going to need (dare I say it) more "reality" (or real world flying proceedures)... you know what I mean! <wink>

Didn't vote, I was expecting ATC or RWW. At least.

I am surprised by the choice of alaska but not by the announcement of a large area. The complaints from some in the Fsx community were completely predictable, and it's not surprising that MS has a ready answer for much of it. I also think this is a shot across the bow of the third party producers who were not interested in microsofts terms.Essentially I see it as a warning that MS is prepared and capable of going it alone.

Not surprised, have clearly said so before, even though like everybody else I knew nothing at all. But, as Todd and Jon say, it is safe to assume that they have it planned out in great detail.Best regards.Luis

Essentially I see it as a warning that MS is prepared and capable of going it alone. If that will be the case - it wil be - Xplane10 with third parties developers onboard with also freeware available - against Flight - Ms onboard - payware ms only.Ms play a very very dangerous game here - taking also in consideration FSX is with third parties developers onboard too - and with freeware also.
