March 14, 201214 yr Hello caps...I Love the 600, and I love bad weather, low vis and mountains (who doesn't). So for a long time I've been roaming Norway with SAS.But I hear a lot of good talk about Canada (you have a big rock or two there, right?) and I was looking into taking on a few Westjet routes with the -600.Could anyone suggest some good legs (max 2hr flight), and perhaps some descent freeware scenery to get me started? Is iot correct that Orbx have done some products for Canada? Mostly been flying within northern Europe, and Orbx doesn't do anything around there, so I haven't really looked into them. But the name haven't escaped my attention, and it comes with some pretty good references I see..Should I be going all in on the payware to explore Canada with WestJet, what would be "need to have" in your opinion? I love thos smaller airports with tricky approaches ;)Mas Martin Jensen
March 14, 201214 yr Some great western routes that take you over the beautiful rocky mountains would be:Calgary (CYYC)-Vancouver (CYVR)CYYC or CYVR to Kelowna (CYLW)CYYC to Victoria (CYYJ)CYYC to Comox (CYQQ)CYVR to Prince George (CYXS)CYYC to Abbotsford (CYXX)CYYC to Edmonton (CYEG)San Francisco (KSFO) to CYVR or CYYCLos Angeles (KLAX) to CYVR/CYYCLas Vegas (KLAS) to CYVRAnd if you're ever interested in long flights, try doing CYVR to Maui in Hawaii (PHOG) or Honolulu (PHNL)And if you're up to some cross Canada flying try these routes:CYYC/CYEG/CYLW to TorontoCYYC to Ottawa (CYOW) * the capital of CanadaCYYC to Montreal (CYUL)etc, etc...P.M me if you're in of any more exciting routes :) There is an art . . . to flying. March 14, 201214 yr The ORBX FTX scenery line is simply stunning and covers a good portion of Western Canada (BC and Alberta) as well as most of the Pacific Northwest area of the US. I wouldn't limit your flights to just Westjet routes as some of the best scenery and approaches would be missed. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
March 14, 201214 yr If your flying anywhere in BC its always nice!! I have both ORBX products and they are great as your descending into the west coast. Kelowna (CYLW) is always a nice airport to visit. Also try Kamloops (CYKA). http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/flightStatusRequest.shtml this should get you an idea of daily flights that come out of CYYC. There's tons of great routes in the west and you can go anywhere from Saskatoon to Yellowknife. I would recommend Edmonton (CYEG) to Yellowknife (CYZF). Its a quick route (around an hour) and the weather in Yellowknife can throw you around pretty good. My last approach was near blizzard conditions. Not sure about the scenery up there though. Anyways I hope you have fun with your new adventure, and you are always welcome to send me a PM if you have any questions!! Brad Cherrington [email protected] CYYC Based
March 15, 201214 yr Did the CYVR to Kelowna (CYLW) route suggested earlier today using real time weather. No real challenges with the weather and the approach into Kelowna was very scenic.
March 15, 201214 yr P.M me if you're in of any more exciting routes :)Don't PM him. Share them with everybody! :( Robert Yunque

Westjet has their own RNP approaches in the airport.CYVR/CYYC-KSNACYVR/CYYC-KPSPCYVR/CYYC-KSANI've pretty much written down all the western routes that are worth flying. March 15, 201214 yr ...CYYC to Comox (CYQQ)......ditto on that plan as I did this trip a few years back. Got delayed on the return flight because they had to (if memory serves me) fly in a replacement radio, which had something to do with Comox being also a military airbase, so there was some special requirement. Anyone? Also, can anyone recommend an add-on for CYYC?
March 15, 201214 yr Author Wow - thx everybody - MArtin, Dave, WetsJetter ect...I'll be trying out those routes in a very near future for sure!Rergarding WestJets own RNP arrivals into Kamloops - were would one get ones filthy fingers on those!?Thx again - I love these forums - everyone is always so kind and helpfull!!Mas Martin Jensen

March 15, 201214 yr I signed up for WestJet Virtuals forum and I cannot get it, really wanted to fly with them, anyone know how I can get ahold of the admins? March 15, 201214 yr Author WestJI'll be doing Edmonton-YellowKnife tonight (local time, so around noon west coast Canadian time I guess), if everything turn out the right way (read: Wife in a good mood, daughter sleeping by eight, and house peace in order - lol) You know how it is... I downloaded Yellowknife freeware to get me started. Is it just me, or is Orbx/FTX the only ones who have done payware scenery for FSX? I found nothing on Aerosoft or simmarket?? Maybe Oryxsim - any comments on the latter?Mas Martin Jensen
March 15, 201214 yr Mas: Aerosoft is mostly Europe. Then there are some smaller companies like flyTampa and FSDT, but I dont think any of them are in the area. --Peter Fabian
