Don't know if I am comparing Apples and Oranges but I came accross this on my BBC news feed and it rang a bell.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17458208the following lines from the developer sounded all to familiar. "In a blog post Bioware co-founder Ray Muzyka described the feedback as "incredibly painful". but his next words are what I thought MS should also have considered."Our first instinct is to defend our work and point to the high ratings offered by critics - but out of respect to our fans, we need to accept the criticism and feedback with humility," he said.Just my two cents

The ENTIRE FS market is too small for Microsoft; hence, the 'ecosystem' of Flight and it's expansion to a larger audience.Airliners vs. GA? Just look at the number of Sub Forums devoted to airliners on this site alone! Nine (9) in the Commercial Support Forums, five (5) in the Non Commercial/ Freeware Support Forums, not to mention the hundreds of entries in the other Sub Forums regarding airliners... there's definitely a larger airliner enthusiast base than both GA and Military combined!Honestly... you guys can't see that?
I agree.. Just look at the screen shot forums...almost all are airline shots.

Do you even know what Oshkosh is? Yes, they do have some jets, but anyone who goes to Oshkosh for "sound and speed" are really in the wrong place for that. Its the worlds biggest GA fly-in. Also, how many people go to MUSEUMS for "sound and speed"? Last I checked, museums house mostly static aircraft and are very quiet.
Oshkosh attracts hard care flying enthusiast, not casually interested. Most popular aviation museums such as Smithsonian who cater to average visitors, don't have Mauls and Cessnas.

And... what's up at the top of The AVSIM MS Flight Page? This:And the banner advertises both "Boxed AND Downloaded Versions"!Need more proof? Stroll on over to the File Library, and enter 'Airbus' into the search string... over 8,500 entries covering 856 pages! How about '747'? 3,637 separate entries, 364 pages.Now... for GA:'Cessna'? 2,562 entries covering 257 pages. 'Piper'? 1,156 entries/ 116 pages. 'Carenado'? 942/ 95.Seems to me the indicators lean a bit towards Airliners vs. GA.Of course as frankla mentioned... just wander into the Screen Shots Forum and take a peek.

Flight cannot compete as a game, but it can compete as a flightsim . . . the sooner they realize that, the soon Flight will stand a chance of succeeding.
This is the most intelligent thing I have heard so far on this thread.

People just sending hate mail will most likely get them moved to the angry sim-nut folder by an assistant before someone important will see them...
I can't believe a company and its leaders such as Josh would respond to angry emails with emotions and dismissal rather than with damage control . To me its unbelievable. Even the god of arrogance, Rush Limbaugh had to apologize when confronted with anger.

couldn't agree more.

Antlab: "With all the respect due to Sagan and Asimov, I was referring to high level scientific books, you can call them "hardcore" if you prefer :-) If a publisher famous for university-level books starts to offer only Sagan and Asimov, you would probably see the same reaction to Flight :-)" Those high level scientific books (FSX) are still there and still for sale, but Sagan and Asimov made the same kinds of subjects accessable to many more people (Flight). This is not a bad thing.Hook

You just don't get it. What Sagan and Asimov would write should be an introductory chapter or two in a book that is devoted to the serious scientific discussion. Some of the gamy features of Flight could have been incorporated into FSXI and everyone would have been happy. There was no need to end a product line. It was a decision that will come back to bite JH, just like it did the latest lead designer of another long running and heavily redesigned franchise, Civilization.

Ok heres something to think about.....Right now Flight is a failure, I like it, but lets face it, it is a failure. No ATC, no AI to fill out the world, and only a maximum of 5 planes to choose from, 1 of which has no flightdeck. This is EARLY stage, however no AI and ATC I still think is poor form at release in a Flight game, not even so much as a simulator.Fast Forward 8-12 months >>>Say Flight now has ATC and AI, as well as more enhanced high resolution scenery at an LOD 24 Mesh level, also there are now 18 planes to choose from and 3 total sceneries, options have been modified for higher quality or lower quality if needed, and now there are a few commercial airliners (regional aircraft). Would you call this a failure then?

I'm afraid anything short of FSXI will still be a failure for some.

One way to gauge how well a game is doing is to see how many youtube videos are made. Go to youtube and search for "Microsoft Flight, today" this will give you all the videos matching for the last 24 hours . I just looked and there are 4 pages of videos matching that criteria, of which only 5 videos were of Flight! The rest were FSX, and FS2004 videos. That's not a good showing. In addition there's a cable station here in the US called "G4" which is aimed at gamers, one of it's shows is called X-Play. They also have a web page. I just looked to see if they reviewed Flight yet. What I found is they not only didn't review it, there were no previews of it, nor any news of any kind related to it. The only thing I saw was an inventory listing of it with a release date of Sept 2011. with links to 2 promo videos. Either MS is doing a lousy job marketing Flight, or G4, which has a pretty big following in the gamer community, doesn't think it's a relevant title, even worthy enough to generate a news blurb announcing it's release!!

Thanks

And this is what Flight (the game) is competing against:Mass Effect: (Mass Effect 1 released November 20, 2007)http://www.facebook.com/masseffect 689,722 likesSkyrim (released Nov 11, 2011):http://www.facebook....147031648682070 164,415 likeshttp://www.facebook....145462488845092 448,207 likesBattlefield 3 (released October 25, 2011)http://www.facebook.com/battlefield.ea 209,691 likeshttp://www.facebook....137409672949139 1,200,046 likesIf they continue to focus more on the game aspects of Flight to woo the gaming crowd, the competition is going to cream them. Flight cannot compete as a game, but it can compete as a flightsim . . . the sooner they realize that, the soon Flight will stand a chance of succeeding.
Completely agree.
