March 20, 201214 yr Greetings to all I am an old (67) flight simmer and have been around these simulators from Flight Unlimited, All MS stuff since FS 95 and combat sims etc.I have gone from wire frame aircraft on through the PMDG 747 and from no startup procedure and so on.But you know what? MS Flight is probably the best thing I have seen in a long time. Of course it has bugs and frustrations but it provides something the big iron and full featured sims don't have. The ability to just load it up, climb in, and enjoy! Just explore the islands, swap aircraft and do something as silly as a treasure hunt (Aerocache). This program is pure fun when you want to just fly. I hope all of you give the program a fair chance in this light and for this purpose. ENJOY!!!!!Les
March 20, 201214 yr Welcome to the forum Les.I agree with everything you said. It's all about enjoyment and fun and for folks who like a challenge......plenty of that too.Fred. Frederic Steiner.
March 20, 201214 yr I saw a quote recently by someone who said that “Flight has put the fun back into flight simming”I am sure not everyone will agree with that but it does it for me :) Jon ------- Microsoft Flight Sim MVP Airport Design Editor FSDeveloper.com
March 20, 201214 yr Yep, that perfectly captures my feeling... Maube that's because we're getting old :-) (48 yo here)....I still will most probably buy PSX when it gets released, and use Condor as a soaring sim, but that's another story because I really don't find anything up to that level of detail - airliners / gliders - on any, counting the best, add-ons for FSX... I still hope though that future weather themes will allow for soaring in FLIGHT using thermal and orographic support :-)FLIGHT has been for me the most rewarding GA sim. Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
March 20, 201214 yr Flight has put the fun back into flight simmingBest quote so far..My 20-30 minute flight preparation in NGX isn't fun at all, but it serves a very specific purpose. All is fun in Flight, bar the Maule, which isn't really that fun and I bet isn't really that fun in RL either! (unless you own one - like an 18-wheeler truck isn't that fun - unless you own one LOL - cue the 15 posts from Maule drivers who beg to differ :D)bestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
March 20, 201214 yr You nailed it Les.While not quite as old, this 53 year old dedicated flight simmer - somewhat hardcore - has found great and very suprising enjoyment out of Flight to date. I donwloaded and installed Flight on March the 5th - and while I still love and plan to continue to fly FSX as well, I have to admit - the last time I lauched a flight in FSX was on March the 4th.I have found Flight that entertaining and fun. Knowing I can be knocking around here at my desktop, reading forums and emails, maybe working on a word document - and the itch hits me and just double clicking that little Flight icon with absolutely NO preperation or planning - and spend a few minutes or maybe an hour or so just having a blast. Well to me, that is just loads of fun...Each day I think - ok probably today I will prepare for a Flight in FSX, create the flight plan, load up the weather in REX, and fly - well so far at least that day has not happened, I end up catching up on the forums and off I go again with Flight.I tell ya, this serious flight simmer has certainly been caught by surprise, especially considering I was at one time in the vocal group of - I won't even bother downloading, why should I, it will not give me what I have in FSX... what in the world has happened to me... March 20, 201214 yr Well, this 68 (turning 69 very shortly) simmer has also enjoyed the latest Microsoft venture. I understand those hard core simmers who are upset at not being able to plan long, high level, flights, but I enjoy the low and slow offered here (with beautiful scenery). I find the big birds boring as there is nothing to see. Also, developers of add-ons are upset, but they both (hard core and developers) still have a great fan section (including me) with FS9 and FSX, which will continue to satisfy their needs. Scenery and adventures = great fun with lots of old fashioned flying. John Wingold

I spent half an hour planning a flight from Halifax to St Johns. I used RW weather and RW time (pushed back at 0600 local time) and had a real blast flying NGX using RC4 and proper SID-STAR route, in and out of some nasty weather and a great last minute wind-shift to a visual approach..It was a breath of fresh air (even if it did take me an hour and a half, start to finish) But then yesterday, I loaded up flight again and had a real blast flying 85NM at 60 feet ASL flying a clandestine mission. I loved that too..I feel spoiled not hard done by!!And I so agree about it just working; I can leave it minimised for a day and a half and when i click on it it's as if it was running just five minutes ago - no such luck with FSXbestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
March 20, 201214 yr Low and slow from this almost 67 year old also. I have been in flight sims from day one also. But I have never invested a dime to add ons til now. Something must be working, this is fun. And I sure that there will be a sail plane soon with these fine winds and raising thermals. I say again, this is just fun.
March 20, 201214 yr Les, I couldn't agree more. I've always loved bush flying (though the closest I've come to it in real life was to land a glider in a field, and buzz some horses in a Hughes 296 :)), and Flight lets me land on all sorts of odd, short and tilted runways, and get achievements and stuff for it! I haven't had this much fun in a flight simulator in years. Well, since I bought the A2A Piper Cub for FSX, probably.40 here, by the way, so kind of an old fart. THough in the sim community I'm probably still a youngster :).
March 20, 201214 yr I had alot of fun with the low and threatening weather setting doing bi plane tours. I like how the wind behaves at the mountains and ridges.it is very fun and makes a great compliment to my fsx that has all the bells and horns. I am glad I have both microsoft products on my machine.
March 20, 201214 yr I'm with ya. 59 here, so not far behind. Tried them all and still have the manual for the very first flight simulator in a box somewhere. Flight has the same newness and novelty that FU1 and FU2 had when they first came out, so despite the features that are missing for the hardcore simmers, Flight cuts a new, appealing path.
March 20, 201214 yr The wind modeling might actually be the best I've seen in a sim. The way you (seemingly) get rotors when passing the treeline at the treshold, or coming over a cliff edge, and I could have sworn I felt one of my wings lift as I passed under a cumulus the other day. Have they even modeled thermals? That'd be a first for MS!
