Prepar3d 1.3 : things that don't work

Featured Replies

A few issues I've noticed :- Advanced weather settings : blue skies whatever you set- Pink snow. Aimé Leclerc of trees and textures fame tried to solve the issue by modifying the textures in 1.2 but no way. Probably caused by the new v3.0 shaders. Same problem in 1.3. By the way, did you know that the ground textures are exactly the same as the ones that come with FSX ?- On my setup, (your mileage may vary), the need to recalibrate joystick and rudder pedals everytime I exit a menu or change my location.

You should post this in the LM Prepar3d forum. They will likely fix these bugs for the next update. :(

Already done that for 1.2 ... Already started to do so after 1.3 :(

I wonder if these bugs are occurring for everyone. I guess we'll find out eventually. I hope I don't have them when I get Prepar3D. Nail%20Biting.gif

Prepar3d is not by any means going to provide some sort of magic for us yet, at least visually. Expectations can be high for Prepar3d because of what we can come to expect in a "new" sim. There are primarily core changes being made to Prepar3d at present and you will probably notice few visual changes until perhaps the next major release (my opinion). However, Prepar3d will become more and more stable over time which FSX is not (by its legacy code), Lockheed is building to first stablise the platform then build on it im sure. I have owned Prepar3d for about 3 months and I must admit there are some querks but also some good points about it.

Maybe and maybe not, If I'm right about the PCI-e 2.0 being the bottleneck in FSX you should see a big improvement with a PCI-e 3.0 mobo, a PCI-e 3.0 GPU and the right CPU....we'll see.

let the wait begin :(

P3D is not finished, by any means. But then nor was/is FSX.For me it is parts of the UI, and ATC windows, that are causing the most issues at the moment. I have no doubt they will be fixed and I have been repoirting bugs. A novel experience for a flight sim!At least P3D has ongoing development from a very large defence contractor who has lots of money. This is the deciding factor for me, at least.With P3D bugs I can actully tell someone and there is a reasonable chance they will be fixed/made better with each new release. I can't wait for 2.0!I'm not sure why (in other threads) people are complaining that P3D 2.0 will be chargeable. FSX was "chargeable". I got no rebate because I owned at least three prior versions! Neither do we know what that charge will be. It was £60 for FSX, and £29.99 for CoF before that. That's £90 ($150) for two versions. I only paid $49 for P3D (£30) so it's already "in front" in that respect.bestjakeAnd the weather seems ok for me. My joystick retains its calibration, but then I've been calibrating it using FSUIPC, which works very well, so far, with P3D

That's the main difference between a "game", which is how FSX is considered by MS, and a "tool", which is how Lockheed Martin sees Prepar3D. For MS, once the "game" is out for sale, all development stops and they go on to the next thing, any bug that may exist will be ignored unless too many people complain. For LM, any bug report is welcome since it helps them fix a tool that is used by its customers.

I agree P3D 2.x will be completely different from P3D 1.x, in the same way FSX is different from FS9. You don't have the right to grab a free copy of FSX just because you purchased FS9.Again we are hitting the difference in how these software packages are seen by their respective companies. P3D is a tool and LM won't spend time and money with a marketing executive to find a "catchy" name for version 2.0. It is already known as Prepar3D and that's more than enough. When 2.0 is out, all other versions won't be available for purchase and their main effort will be to convince their installed customers base to upgrade.

Jean-Paul,This isn't a fix, but have you tried using FSUIPC? I know it's another ~$30 to spend but well worth it. If you already own it for FSX you can run the installer again and it will install it into P3D as well.Just another thought about the calibration problem:- It sounds as if the controls file isn't being modified correctly or saved.- Is UAC disabled or was it disabled during P3D install?- Are you running P3D as the Administrator?- Is P3D installed in the /Program Files(x86)/... folder?- After you make your calibrations, press Apply, then Accept. Save the flight, exit P3D, then launch the saved flight by double-clicking on it in the folder it was saved to. This may ensure that the calibrations are saved for in the future.

Philip,Thanks for you help :( I solved that problem in the meantime . Stupid me, as usual, it was a duplicate axis problem... :( I keep forgetting that my Saitek Cyborg Command Unit also includes a mini joystick...

Just got it up and running and running it straight out of the box.. I saw someone mentioned the UI and ATC.. Are you describing the problem when bringing up the ATC window the screen just flashes the ATC window briefly then disappears usually leaving a transparent texture where the window would be?

Pink snow workaround : Download Gamma Panel and tweak to your heart's content. This fantastic little utility can sit in the taskbar and allows you to use in-flight accessible hotkeys for all your color presets.Here is what I did to reduce the problemFirst create a default profile so that you can call back your normal settings with a hotkey :- Press on "Reset", in the "Hot-key" area, use an unused by P3D key- Save as "Default"Define a setting for P3D.- For P3D, I clicked on the "Red" icon and reduced its brightness by +/- 10%. Not perfect but at least better.- Assign a new hotkey to this setting and save as i.e. "-red".You can now change your color settings "in-flight"

Hi Jean-Paul,That is a sweet idea, didn't even think of that.

hey Styckx, it was me. Sort of. I bring up the ATC window (which looks like it fell out of a cowboy movie) and it flashes for about a second. When I move it to my second monitor both of my screens go black; I can still hear P3D. They come back after about four seconds. same happens when I move it back, and subsequently close it. Good point. in lots of industries customers are used to paying for version upgrades; point upgrades are always (mostly) free.It's not new to a lot of us. If we are to get a whole new rendering engine I am happy to pay another $49.Jeez, I must have spent close to £5000 on FSX when you consider the amount of hardware upgrades I've done just to be able to fly it properly. Don't even mention the 000's of £ of additonal softs...LOLThanks be to the god of flight sims that most of it can be "re-used" in P3D (for now...I wonder what effect DX11 will have on all of our imports)jake
