March 26, 201214 yr Are there any high quality water type planes, payware or freeware, which are nicely different or interesting than what Deluxe FSX offers?Been searching for a Spruce Goose but I come up with old or poorly done versions.
March 26, 201214 yr Aerosoft's PBY Catalina. It's one of the best FSX aeroplanes you can buy in terms of realism, but you need a decent PC to get it to run okay, as it has a very detailed VC which will tax less able rigs. Aerosoft's DH Twin Otter is a bit more frame rate friendly if you want something smaller with reasonable STOL capabilities, VC is a bit basic by super-duper up to date detailed Captain Sim standards, but is perfectly usable and has a lot of rugged charm, which is in keeping with the Twotter's personality.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
March 26, 201214 yr I found the Dehavilland DHC-2- MKIII Turbo Beaver Amphibian by Premier Aircraft Design is a great add on to the default Beaver that comes with FSX. Fun to fly and fairly system friendly.
March 26, 201214 yr A2a Piper Cub with floats or with tundra wheels for stol water landings (yes it does simulate the bush flying technique of "slow down with wheels on water but do remember to reach dry land before you stop").I also second the Aerosoft Catalina. It's so slow it hurts, but dang what a beautiful plane. Fairly realistic too AFAIK.Haven't really tried any of the numerous Carenado amphibs since FS9, perhaps if they'd make the 208 I'd be interested.Aerosoft are currently re-making the Twotter, so I'd keep an eye out but wouldn't buy the old model just now, right before they make a new version. No idea when it'll be out, and not even sure if they make the amphib model (they've only shown renders of the -100 with wheels so far).
March 26, 201214 yr This one looks promising. Also I'd second the Piper J3Cub from A2A. Mateusz Kapusta
March 26, 201214 yr I am very fond of the Aerosoft Bush Hawk XP - it has float variants included. Cheers! Iain

March 27, 201214 yr Author Check out the free OZX Grumman Goose. This is really a good plane. Why? FSX already has one. Is it tons better than FSX?The Aerosoft Catalina is amazing!Yeah, must say, its most impressive listed so far. $35 though, ouch.
March 27, 201214 yr You should bear in mind that the Aerosoft Catalina is about as close to an A2A Accusim aircraft as pretty much any other developer of an old prop plane has managed, since it does have some excellent engine modeling, which means you really do have to manage the engines properly to even get the thing going and keep it running. It's worth the money if you value realism.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
March 27, 201214 yr Why? FSX already has one. Is it tons better than FSX?Yeah, must say, its most impressive listed so far. $35 though, ouch. It's a rehash of the FSX default. Looks better, handles much better. Just download it, it's free!$35, you'll find, is the sweet spot. High fidelity will set you back $60-70. Some junk will be around the $15-25 range. You really do get what you pay for in this hobby. From add-ons to PC hardware and controllers. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
