Anyone tested GTX 680 with FSX yet? I'm curious.

"questions of this nature, will PCIe 3 add anything"no, it won't, zilch. unless you consider 0.5% FPS increase noteworthy
Come on now FPS is only one parameter of performance! You must at least add to this freedom from stuttering and image quality/texture update rate. Once frame rate is essentially good enough to trick the eye/brain into believable motion, these other parameters take precedence.

+1 I agree. Whenever you're above 35 FPS all that matters if whether you get a smoother hitch and microstutter free experience. Maybe PCI 3.0 will improve this. Even with my specs I see some very slight microstuttering when I'm at around 45 fps or lower. Whenever I get above that, it's actually almost 100% smooth, and this is because I limit to 60 in Inspector. Which is monitor refresh rate and whenver you can achieve anything close to that, like 50 FPS + youll be looking at a very smooth ride. Everyone with the best SB systems + GTX 500 series and PCI 2.0 is seeing some very slight (I repeat very SLIGHT) microstuttering.

microstuttering in FSX won't be overcome by going from PCI 2.0 to PCIe 3.0. but feel free to buy a PCIe 3.0 enabled mobo and GPU, and report back. the only way you'll benefit from a faster GPU is antialiasing at very high resolutions, like on 3 monitors. but that can be done on current PCI 2.0 already.Ivy bridge CPU overclocked to 5 GHz, combined with a SSD would help though.

how much of a performance increase would i experience if i went from my current gpu to a gtx 680 and further overclock my cpu to 4.8ghz?im keeping a close eye on the gtx 680 since my current setup struggles to stay in the 20's when using the ngx at night in the fsx cyyz scenery..cfg tweaked on bojote's, reject threshold 512kb, no buffer pools...i have rex textures, use as2012 for wx engine, utx can, utx usa, and gex. Also even if im flying during the day, i get stutters when i change the view to outside spot view and pan around.thank you and hopefully when i upgrade my gpu i can be happier then!!!

I expect approx. 4-5 % FPS increase max., if that. that is negligible in FSX

How about if you disable AA (and get extra FPS) and then enable TXAA instead (which does not take FPS away)?Manny
TXAA requires coding to be placed in the game. Much like Physx the developer has to implement the use of TXAA in the game.As of yet no games exist with TXAA but several are coming.

i have seen a lot of ppl being able to run fsx pretty smooth with nvidia cards. It seems like ati has problems with fsx thats why im asking. I just dont want stutters/shimmering/vertical lines or artifacts of any kind anymore. I just want it smooth. its a shame ati cards cant handle it as well as nvidia cards because i can play bf3 maxed out no problem.....one of my friends is going to lend me his gtx580 at the end of april to see if i notice any difference!!cheers

For FSX ,a 680 certainly isnt going to give any more performance than a 580 which barely , if any, gives more performance than a 480 :) Other modern games is a different story.
Absolutely...

We can not test PCIe3.0 with GTX680 yet. Sandy Bridge does not support it and Sandy Bridge-E doesn't officially support it but is capable. So it is disabled in the driver now but will hopefully be enabled soon for Sandy Bridge-E.I don't expect any difference between a GTX580 and a GTX680 in FSX until we get working PCIe3.0 systems. And yes, FSX is limited by the PCIe2.0 bus at times. We can not test PCIe3.0 with GTX680 yet. Sandy Bridge does not support it and Sandy Bridge-E doesn't officially support it but is capable. Understood.. Why repeat yourself? :Hypnotized:

Oh bummer! Dangit! So we are screwed yet again. I thought TXAA was some stuff, that the driver/Hw is doing ..an alternate to AA of sorts!Whelp! Anyway, my primary feature I wanted was multi monitor high resolution 3 X 1920 X 1200 and I got that...Saves me $300 from getting Triplehead2go and its resolution limitations... and no need for SLI.everything else is bonus. For me GTX 680 is a radical revolution.

No one has tried 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling Transparency AA in bad weather with a GTX680 yet please?

Guys I have a question about the GTX 680 that nobody has yet answered me.

Is there any difference in terms of smoothness, instead of only FPS? I mean, is there any increase/decrease in hitching and microstuttering to the GTX 580? Cuz even with my current system I sometimes see some very very slight htiching. It's pretty much smooth, but not 100% though. I know that the GTX 680 does barely anything to FPS, but I was just wondering if it would change smoothness?

Because if the GTX 680 performs the same in terms of FPS and smoothness as the 580, I will still get the 680 for other games, and for possible future FS platforms.

The 680 has way more shaders than the 580 so it is hard to believe that FSX would not benefit. My main reason for getting one however would be the lower fan speeds (noise) due to the lower load temps. Also, won't the TXXAA mode be available under nVidia Inspector?

Cheers

Unlike FXAA, TXAA is not incorporated at driver level and so will be set into the game engine by the developers. Such games will be Borderlands 2, Eve Online and Mechwarrior Online. we also expect to see this implemented into a number of yet to be named titles in the near future based on supporting game engines.
