Apparently someone...

LOL. "Someone." As in "you", which we're very well aware.

That plugin might be to old, but also could make this plane fully working on Linux?

Yes, Michael, it's much too old and is compiled against "different" libraries making it non-identical to the Mac and Windows versions...as you're very well aware.

Just couldn't resist she's a lovely plane in all aspects 'BUT' for some reason she really eats into my fps & I am getting massive sudden drops--something that I have never experienced before? Carenado planes often 'Vampire' the juice a bit but nowhere near as harshly as this little beaute.

To get her running 100% I'm having to cut well back on 'settings' (Which are always pretty high but without problems) & I don't have a lean machine . Anyone else found this Guys as maybe its specific to my machine or download ? Cheers

Hi, Ed,

No reports of FPS hits yet, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. No issues here on three machines, though I'll admit they're all relatively robust and X-Plane is highly dependent on a person's system + in-sim settings.

I wonder if the 570 on your machine is hitting some fill rate issues? My 580 had fill rate issues on my relatively large display (though not really specific to aircraft and more specific to clouds), and thanks to the 680 these issues are now gone. What screen resolution are you running at? Assuming this is XP 10, as it stands already it's a beast in what it takes up PRE aircraft load as well (up to 1GB), then add scenery, UV textures from buildings/aircrafts, etc on top of that and you could possibly be in trouble if running at too high of settings. How about your X-Plane texture resolution setting? What's that at?

Maybe some DC3 owner might give it a try anyway. Just curious about feedback.

Hi Cameron. Everything is set right up high except HDR and Shadows which is 3D on Aircraft and it runs really brilliantly in the situations I fly (Generally Bush-Mountains/Desserts entire West coast N.Americas Alaska-Mexico) I get the usual fps drops around the infamous airports KSEA etc but rarely less than 15 and generally for just a few moments till it recovers. I generally fly (most aircraft) at 30-60fps. Res 1920x1080

However DC3 problem seems 'Host specific' it only occurs with that plane since I downloaded it and changing back to any other plane reverts to the standard fps for that particular plane. (They all vary somewhat but nothing as drastic as this.)

I have a 'Clean' instalation of v10.05r1--that is to say it is just a pure install with no extras--I only use it to check things out in a clinical environment so to speak--then return it to it's clean state afterwards. I've just installed DC3 on it and will go through the process. Lets see --- Cheers.....

Hi,

Regarding engine RPM and MP and I'm not expert on this (and sorry for the comparison with FSX counterparts BTW) but it is normal when you are at high power (but not full) in a straight level flight that the RPMs easily overpass the red line in the tachometers? this is not happening in FSX even at full power, and EVEN in some propliners in X-Plane (I know both different platforms). Many thanks,

Alexander Colka

The prop governor, with proper adjustment, should limit the RPMs to "the desired" red line. That's how it normally works. If you were to just push the prop control full forward during a high power cruise, the red line could easily be exceeded.......unless you load the engine up a bit, as in the start of a climb. As to this model, I don't have it, for any comparisons.

Well put her through her paces starting from zeroing the options and building up.

At X-Planes lowest default settings she flies well at around 80--94fps--but naturally looks awful. I can step up everything to my standard full settings except for texture resolutions which I normally run at extreem--this my card will not tolerate with the DC-3 for some reason and the highest I can run this at is 'High' which gives me a reasonable definition but nothing like extreme which is pristine crisp. This runs at 30--45fps. @ KFHR---45-58fps @ KEDW

Bump her up to just Very High and she starts becoming very erratic--extreem is an absolute 'No No'--Don't know what it is about this plane that makes her so thirsty for GPU juice?

She never exceeds 16-18% usage on the x8 core CPU at 3950.

With fps 34-47 she flies like an absolute dream & very smooth and stable--more so than the Marquis in fact--Cheers

There's already another at x-plane.org's shop. Even better in my opinion, as it supports Linux like 99% of all addons.

Give over! ........ it's ancient and I'm sorry but the cockpit looks like freeware. I know you're disappointed and clearly bitter that this one doesn't support Linux, but stating that the other DC-3 is superior to this new release is comical......

That's not possible to do. I can see how it would be easier for the end user, and if we all had identical hardware with identical calibrations, it would be perfect. But there are so many system configurations out there, that it's actually a better idea that the choice is there for the end user to set up the joystick linearity and stability augmentation to their particular tastes.

I remember having a Microsoft Sidewinder joystick. Played Battlefield 2142 with it and always flew the gunship and managed a 3rd place ranking (for my country) in it. Bought the new Saitek joystick and couldn't fly worth a damn. Crashed every 30 seconds. The difference was like night and day and it took me about 2 weeks to get used to it.

It is the same for me flying the BF3 Jets vs the BF2 jets with my logitech joystick.

Just picked up the DC-3. Nice add-on!!! Very atmospheric.

I did notice a few model issues on the right side towards the front of the aircraft (look like a few "cuts" in the aircraft that appear to sort of "flash"), but other than that, she looks simply great!

I'll look into this. I can't say for sure what it is yet as I haven't seen it on my system, and so far only 2 people have reported it, but I'll definitely look into it.

It might be an overclocking issue, so if you have overclocked your card or CPU, then reset it and see what happens.

Sorted--same problem I've been having for a very long time with anything running Gizmo. Removed C74's Cirrus RS22 from the install--not a single problem afterwards. This conflict works both ways however. Can work around it no problem--no choice really they're all great planes.

You're kidding! Really, Edwin? Having C74's plane installed and simply removing it increased your performance?? That's wrong on so many levels if that's the case...am I missing something here? If you can get some firm data I would love to discuss this with Laminar.

By the way...I spoke with C74 and have obtained a copy of this aircraft to work on your issues from past. I didn't tell you about that, but now's as good a time as any!
