An $85.00 ORBX-FSX affirmation....

Featured Replies

I think flying with ORBX scenery depends on the mood you are in.I fly the big iron and GA.The limitations are more a function of FSX.I fly out of Bowerman a lot, mainly because it is ILS equiped and is only around 5000 feet ,so it is a challenge for the big iron,I have taken off and landed with 747-8,paying attention to gross weight and flaps, but when doing so,I stay away from the large airports whether en route or as a destination, because I know my rig can't handle the fps. But, for example try flying out of Stewart B.C. to Ketchican with a 737 low gross weight. You can get the advantage of both worlds. Is'nt this hobby great!!.It has something for everyone!!

Benjamin,

Cairns is "art." That airport recapitulates what ORBX airports and sceneries do to a simmer like me. Fantastic! At 44% off it's a steal.

It's indeed a pretty amazing scenery. Due to its northern location, I hardly ever visit it though... Now with all these new airports, I think I will find myself removing some of the European airports I never fly to or from, and install these new Orbx Airports. They really are perfect for GA flights!

-------------------------------------------------------------- Seriously....not a bad idea. I'd love to see 'people flow' characters paddling canoes around the great waterways that ORBX has created. Take for example, Cushman Lake. Now that would be WILD to see people (campers, etc) enjoying the lake, dock area, beaches...as you either take off or come in to land! ------------------------------------------------------- I can't wait....a full defrag...and off to the races for all the above scenery I just plopped into FSX! --------------------------------------------- Bill...great stuff indeed! I am doing 'wow-head shakes' as I explore the area. BTW....beachflow, canoeflow, fishingflow.....hmmm......a great addtion to those lakeside airports! Get the powers-to-be onto this.... (smile!) Mitch -------------------------------------------------------- LOL, Bill! Just point me out to anybody that has a Canoe for FSX...and I will FULLY enjoy your lakeside airport sceneries!!! Fly in.....set up camp.....put the canoe into the lake...and enjoy the lakeshore. Pull the canoe out....break camp....load up the plane...and head back to the F.B.O. Yeppers...one can fully immerse oneself in FSX! Mitch'er

Like you i have tried cars, cruise ships in FSX and thought nahh. But this was before ORBX. I agree, interacting with the scenery which we believe is so beautiful would be superb. FSX at the end of the day is for flight, therefore walking round, getting in to cars, boats etc is not what we need (buy GTA for that). However i do believe seeing others doing these tasks as you fly slowly above would be superb. I don't own any products with 'snow flow', 'people flow 2' but i flew in to Alice Springs last night and was honestly overwhelmed. A long flight from boring Honolulu was greatly welcomed by watching airport men moving suit cases from a trailer to the tarmac, the sound of birds and just the sheer detail of the scenery. How hard could it be to have a few guys on a fishing boat, or sun bathing on a beach or by a camp fire at night>

Check the file library for a canoe. I've seen buses, yachts and sports cars. I feel like a canoe must be in there somewhere.

Thanks Chase...I do that. :)

I picked up $250 worth of OrbX stuff last time around, just got the last 2 that I was missing that I wanted...

Have pretty much everything other than Cushmans, which I believe is not RW anyway...

For GA, there is no other in my opinion. I prefer the OrbX take compared to pure photoscenery with one single season any day...

Each to his/her own of course...

Well, you can add another $186.00 today to my yesterday purchases of $85.00 ($271.00 over the last two days) for my taking advantage of the current 44 % off Orbx Sale. Today I bought all the rest of the Orbx N.A. airfields (that I did not have prior to this sale) other than the new (Swanson, I think) that is not on sale. I can wait for that one.... I am now totally committed to FSX and am loving it. CRM is amazing. Heck...ALL OF THEM, airfields and large scenery areas...are! Totally worth the sale price of admission. Orbx...I need the N.A. Southern Rockies to complete my total 'Orbx Assimilation'.....rotflmbo! Grand Canyon-wide smile on the kisser....having an FSX BLAST! I'm grateful that my system can run FSX at full open bore, with 17-30 (locked top end) FPS. Orbx at full bore, well...is life-like to my eyes. That's all that counts in the long run!!!

Wow, Mitch that is quit a big haul. I have a few more to get but before I do I was wondering if anyone has been able to get the additional 5% discount by being a member of the Ozx forum. I was able to use it back in December but it does not appear to be working this time.

Mitch, you should get P3D as well, it seems to be the way forwards and all your Orbx stuff will work in it.

Hi Carl, Yeah...this April sale event nudged me to 'get off the pot' and fully commit to FSX as the 'last stand' for fully fledged flight simulation software from MS. My wallet is lighter, but my smile is brighter! LOL. I now have all N.A. except the latest with PeopleFlow 2 (Swanson) I think. I don't know why they just didn't offer that at the sale price...as they eventually will.... Oh...no 5% was factored in...just the sale price. That would have been nice...but no crocodile tears regardless. Grab what you can....44% is something big in savings.

Pong, with all the FSX/Orbx that I just purchased....and the new Student Licence (monthly would not have interested me....wallet-drain....) that might be where I will eventually head as well. At 17-30 locked FPS (all sliders full right, to the stops)with (yes...the occasional stutter, nobody can totally get rid of 'em...) FSX is doing the job. I have an i7-975/ nVidia GTX285 system that is cranking it out for me. All in all, most happy to sit in the up-grade bush, until I see CPU's/Graphic Cards that TRULY gives you a steady 60 FPS for FSX. When that time comes, I guess that I will upgrade again. But not until.....the i7-975/GTX285 is a very capable platform. Very capable indeed!

Cheers,

If you get the Tongass Fjord's scenery from fsaddons you'll have another descent sized fairly detailed airport PASI Sitka.

I'll look into that, thanks. With the 12 Orbx for PNW airports/airfields that I just purchased the last two days....I had no idea whatsoever how much new and detailed scenery came with each airport/airfield! No idea whatsoever. It has totally changed the 'realism' level to way over the top! It was a lot of 'coin'...even with the sale prices...but having been taking off and flying over and around the 12 airfields.....well...it was worth every dollar spent! What an incredible transformation of PNW....with picking up all the custom and highly detailed surrounding scenery. I am beyond 'pleased'. :)

Hi Mitch,

I am sure you have been busy installing all the new PNW airports. I have been thinking about adding Diamond Point-2WA1, Fall City-1W6, and maybe PAKT. Any thoughts on these?

I would like to get Skagit-KBVS to compliment my 74S, but from what I have read it would tax my I7-860.2.8mhz, H/D7770 system too much.

Regards,

Carl

Hi Carl!

Three words, right off:

GO FOR IT!

Now the rest of the post.... (large, large grin.....)

"Yeppers....I spent an afternoon downloading all the 12 (about 25 minutes for each). Then ran the wrappers as 'administrator'. After loading all 12 (I also bought C.R.M. and Zinerteck's Ultimate Water (for FS9)....I then went to the FSX Support Page (and downloaded all the patches/upgrades for all that were there that I had just bought):

http://fullterrain.com/support.html

Make sure that you also run the PNW (Patch 5, cumulative) VERY IMPORTANT! -----and then run the latest peopleflow library further down the page as the last thing of all your installs..... Restart your computer, then do a full DEFRAG of the whole shebang. After that?......FLY, FLY....and FLY some more! LOLOLOLOL.

Now the serious stuff....

Carl, at first I had no intentions of adding on airports. Why would I? After a few take-offs and landings, you know the routine by heart....and heck...you want to fly, not sit at an airport...right? Well...sort of 'right'. I decided that as I see that FSX (or P3D) is the last of the full fledged breed...I made a decsion to jump right in. I want immersion. I want imagination to take hold and soar, lol. So...I did. But....IT BLEW MY MIND, once taking off and seeing the hundreds of square miles of upgraded and detailed scenery that came with each airport/airfield upgrade. This is what made my purchase so invaluable, (seen after the fact, of course).

Take 3W5 (Concrete)-----just WAIT unitil you take off...and then do a slow flaps extended 70-80 knot flyover of the town, dam, lake, gorge...river, surrounding area....your jaw will drop at the detail. Now...having said that....I run FSX at full bore. Full bore. EVERYTHING is cranked. To fully appreciate PNW and all the added extras, you simply need to. I'd drop 10 FPS any day, to see my virtual world fully laid out...and making me feel that I'm actually there! Yes...if need's be, you can make a landing at 7-10 FPS (if need's be) if you are good at the controls. But coming into a full bore FSX...is sheer heaven! For the above example on my system, I usually (full bore 3W5) get about 10 low, right up to 30 (of course all FPS in transistion at any time) The landings are made just fine....at taxi...is around 12 to 30 FPS.

Still with me, Carl? LOL!

I did what SpiritFlyer did....that is the milk run...and it was WORTH every dollar spent. Carl...you just have to have faith. If you love the hobby, If you truly love what FSX is capable of.....then jump right into the fire. Work an extra couple of days on the weekend, (LOL) to drop $200.00 to 300.00 on all the Orbx N.A. airports and scenery files that you can afford. You will love it, and forget about the money in ten minutes or less. Take advantage of the 44 % sale. Money, very well spent (as seen through the hobby).

Final thoughts...get as many of what you are interested in as you can at this time. I have an i7-975/nVidia 285 system, and until I had made a few passes over Concrete for instance and coming onto final, I did see some 5-7 FPS dips....but Carl.....MY GAWD.....the scene before me was so real, so spectacular....that I just gave up more of the 'pilot finesse' and brought down the Carenado Amphib with the slightest of squeal and thump from Accu-Simm, lol. Beautiful, Carl.....BEAUTIFUL!

So, in four thousand words or less, that I am known for...... Buy what you crave to buy. Run your system at full out....have the mountains reflected in the lake and river waters....see Orbx as the designers put their blood, sweat, and tears to produce...and to H*LL with the FPS's.... Just fly better! You will love the trade off....for on your system, it will be the visual (immersion) spectacular!

Afterthought, regarding PAKT, because the runway is elevated by landfill....and there are ramps that you use to get down to the gates and service areas, you might find that when you set up on a runway, you will be hanging in the air and crash, If that happens, wait...as FSX will reload you and set you on the elevated runway. I would suggest then, (as I did) that you then NOT take off that first time at the airport, but turn off and taxi to the ramps. Then...set yourself where you want to be within the scenery...and SAVE that as a flight to load. Then, that is what you would use to access PAKT. If you want to take off in Big Iron...then just swap out your plane after you loaded your G.A. It works like a charm. After you do that...simply taxi back out and up to the runway...and have at it. Wait until you see what adding PAKT does to the town and waterfront of Ketchikan! Yeehaw....

You asked specifically about:

Diamond Point-2WA1 I found that with Diamond Point, it's whats added and enhanced to the area...as the sweet buy. The airfield is top notch...but once you take off, Carl....the fun and games begin! :))))

Enjoy....and enjoy some more, Carl.... I sure am....

Mitch (full bore FSX and pass the ammunition....)
