April 7, 201214 yr You don't need to revert to the old design just because of that. There are other solutions to display the new files as item groups. Regards, Tom
April 7, 201214 yr not everyone can afford that amount of screen real estate. Print and web design have a lot of commonalities, but also some differences. One being: web pages are not a piece of paper where you can place things where you want and everybody sees exactly the same. Making web pages is more about finding the lowest common denominator so the page looks acceptable to everyone. Yup, I agree, but I am not advocating wasting space, I am advocating using it in an intelligent way. In practical terms, you can make elastic or liquid web pages where the width is a percentage of the browser rather than a set dimensional width, so you can ensure everyone sees what they need to. The new design is good, it just needs a couple of nods toward doing that sort of thing, which I expect will happen, since by their very nature, website layouts can be shuffled around fairly easily. April 7, 201214 yr I understand what you mean. But the problem with elastic layouts is: they can look terrible in some cases based on the actual browser width being used. If you look around the web you will see that no one uses them any more since browsers are able to zoom pages properly. Regards, Tom
April 7, 201214 yr Thank you Avsim for provideing a website, Forum, and File area, and for maintaining it. Thank you Avsim for making the effort to keep improving Avsim. Looking at the new Website "design", I can understand why you have made these changes to improve how you can interact and maintain the site. As a visitor, do I "prefer" the new design to the old design -- Unfortunatly -- NO Thats not so say the new design is that bad, but rather that I found the old design to be more functional, and better displayed the aspects of Avsim that I am interested in seeing when I first enter the site. That being said, I know I will get use to this new layout, and at some time in the future, it will most likely be updated again. It will be interesting to see what they do next with the FILE LIBRARY.
April 7, 201214 yr I like the new page. Much, much better than the last attempt we had at this. Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
April 7, 201214 yr Tom I have been amember since 2006 but a user for a long time before that; Pre FLY actually - I have enjoyed the experience but this new page is not giving me a good time. Logging in is a nightmare. My old password is suddenly "not recognised". Several attempts to get a new one were finally successful - partially - I now have to make two attempts with the first one regularly denied and the second one regularly acceptable in spite of using the same e-mail address and password. Have said that it appears impossible to change back to my old passward. Following the link to change the passward simply puts me back to the original sign in page. I have spent over half an hour this morning just to find somewhere to comment. I am sorry but am not going to waste any more time. Sorry but I will using other sites from now on - Rayclyde PS An IT professional (now retired) what happened to the old KISS mantra [Keep It Simple Systems]
April 8, 201214 yr Not terrible, but the AVSIM logo is one of the smallest graphical elements on the page. How do you communicate "brand identity" if a casual visitor is not immediately clear about the fact this is the AVSIM site? Like many of us, I've been visiting this site for more than a decade; when I first opened it a few days ago, it took a second or two to realize where I was. Shouldn't the logo be the strongest graphical element on your landing page? I'm surprised with such a vast community, you don't have a contest for these redesigns, with an opportunity for us to vote. What say? Tim

April 9, 201214 yr New design yes - loading time BIG NO ! It is a lot slower from this end of the world (downunder) regardless of my two different broadband connections. Put into perspective, it is like going to a good website - but there is a price you pay. Not quite dial up, but not too far from it. I hope it works out for you guys, but for me, it is not quite there yet.
April 9, 201214 yr Actually I've noticed the loading time is faster for me. All in all it's a big improvement :Applause: 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base
April 9, 201214 yr Great improvement over the last front page. Please don't change it. If you can walk away it's a good landing
