Idea for MS regarding the constant N to skip to next waypoint message

Featured Replies

Afaik no one really likes to see that message N for next waypoint all the time. It's annoying and it spoils the immersion. So I thought: why not do it the other way around? Don't show that message at all anytime, but whenever someone presses N:

1. just skip to the next waypoint or

2. show a message saying Are you sure you want to skip with an option to skip or cancel

and

3. show a popup for a short while saying 'Skipping not available' when skip is not available.

This way you will never be bothered with that message again unless you actually want to skip. In addition MS could implement an option that IF you have pressed N and you get option 3, you would get a message (for a short while) as soon as skipping IS available (because by pressing N you made clear you want to skip if possible).

Apart from that: please give us a key to toggle on screen message off. Looking at DESTINATION for an hour or so TOTALLY kills the immersion. But I've said that before...

The problem with that solution is discoverability for newcomers to Flight. Most people don't look at the manual before jumping in and flying. Having said that isn't it mentioned during the second (mandatory) flight?

Personally I think the best solution would be for the message to be displayed initially and then fade out after a short while.

Give people power to really test their personality.

+1.

I personally think that would be a great solution.

The constant reminder is useful to us older folks who don't remember anything. :Nerd:

Memory is the first thing to go. The second is... hmm, I forgot!

Best regards.

Luis: I thought it was, "Memory is the second thing to go." "What's the first?" "... I don't remember."

Hmm this is the GAME part of Flight shining through. :(

A good idea this but I think it would be much better if MS provided keys to toggle on/off these messages and also the same for the destination markers which I find really distracting...... especially during night approaches and landings........the marker is right in vision of the landing area and spoils the excellent runway approach graphics.

It would be great to be able to practice VOR and dead reckoning navigation without the destination marker ruining things.

A simple toggle function would be simplest IMO, it can be flicked off before take-off and back on after landing.

Note that the Destination Marker can be removed by editing the Flight.CFG file, but this is not an ideal solution because you also end up with no information on where to taxi to and park on arrival. I work around that by only taking Jobs to small airfields with only a handful of parking spots right together, so it's easy to figure it out.

If you want to try it, this is the change:

[PointOfInterestSystem]

VisibleSetting=1

But yeah, there needs to be a button to press turning it on and off. This would solve all problems with it.

I would really like to see a recording feather built in. It would utilize a simple START RECORDING and STOP RECORDING key. And of course PLAYBACK.

Hello Roboray......Having a prob with cfg files......using notepad to edit every time I try to open the flight.cfg file it displays all the FSX files, not sure whats happening have you had the same problem at all ?

I don't understand what you're saying about FSX files. The file you should be opening with Notepad is your user account's AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Flight/Flight.CFG file. Make a backup copy of it first, so that you can restore it if bad things happen.
