Best Carenado Aircraft

Featured Replies

I've been looking into a lot of prop aircraft lately, and I was wondering if there happened to be a general consensus on what Carenado's best aircraft is. Now, there's probably not, but which one would you recommend?

Thanks,

I have quite a few, but the favorite one is that which I am interested in...for a real-life purchase, the Cessna Stationair 6 II turbo-charged, land/amphib operation.

What about for FSX? I think the Stationair's only for FS9

I'm mainly trying to decide between getting the Piper Malibu JetProp or the Cessna 208B Caravan.

There is a patch for the FS9 version to use in FSX. It is this patched version that I fly within FSX with.

Do you have the JetProp or the Caravan? If so, what do you think of those?

-Bram Osterhout

The Caravan is great but a little heavy on my system. Not enough to stop me flying her but just enough to make me hesitate before deciding on whether to select her or not.

The 337 is probably my favourite but I must have more hours on the Tundra C185F than any other aircraft in the hangar.

I'm hoping my new favourite will be the King Air which is due out in just a few days!

 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2  - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base

I would recomend the C337, Tundra C185 or the C152 but with the 152 it has no auto pilot so its hands on sim flying but its a great trainer and very fun to fly same with the others :)

Also the Arrow IV is very cool and very different from the cessna's and not everyones cup of tea but still a great aircraft :)

My top list would be the 337 Skymaster in first, the Arrow IV in second and the 152 in third with the Tundra 185 in forth :)

Every new Carenado aircraft is better than it's predecessor - these guys are getting really good!

With that logic, I would say, wait a few days until the C90 is released..

The Malibu is really well done, but recognize that this is a "high altitude cruiser", so is that the kind

of flying you do?

The C337 is also really good, but is a regular piston short hop aircraft.

My personal favorite is actually the F33 Bonanza (equipped with RXP gauges), but that is mainly

because that is the kind of aircraft I would fly in real life if I could.

So, in summary, ask yourself what kind of flying you enjoy, and get an aircraft that matches..

Bert

I've just got the Malibu and I'm really impressed with it.

I like the C337 and the 210 too.

The 208 with Bernt Stolle's new air file is another great aircraft.

Malibu is excellent. Centurion is probably my most used aircraft. It took me a while to get used to its flight model. It doesn't fly like your typical high wing Cessna with their tendencies of wanting to `float'. It's the exact opposite in a lot of ways and I ended up changing my approach to piloting as if it was a low wing aircraft instead. After that my landings became much more controlled and precise. Another aircraft I've been using a lot is the Commander 114.. Fun little basic aircraft to do short hops in yet is still equipped enough for IFR. She's short on power though and gets tossed around easily.

Then there is the 337 which has been mentioned a lot.. That aircraft is just a giant bucket of pure fun to fly in all situations and the sound set is incredible.. I had to ween myself off of flying it for awhile because the rest of my hanger was being ignored so much. :LMAO:

Hearing all this about the 337, I'm sort of leaning towards that now, but I do have a few questions.

I originally set out to get a turboprop commuter aircraft, but the fact that PMDG's Jetstream doesn't load the FMC state kind of turned me away (I'm still inquiring about that on the PMDG forums). Anyway, since other than the Jetstream, nothing else interested me in the ways of commuter aircraft, so I figured I'd check out getting another Carenado aircraft, looking primarily for something that is operated by airlines. Which of Carenado's planes are used frequently by airlines?

And how is the glass cockpit in the Malibu?

Of course, if you guys really think I should, I'll probably go with the 337.

GPS is your standard GNS530 and GNS430 combo.. The G500 isn't bad, but it's not totally great either..

The first issue is it's pretty hard to read and also by default it's insanely bright and bleeds things out a bit. Which leads to the second problem I have with it.

Figuring out how to operate it requires a good 30 minutes of playing `where are the click points on the dial and what exactly do they do'. It was by pure accident I stumbled across the menu to adjust the brightness and such. It's honestly more of a novelty to me instead of a useful tool for a flight. I usually pay more attention to the standard gauges than the glass because I can just glance at them and have the information I need. The glass panels I end up squinting or zooming in to read things clearly. Not knocking Carenados work here at all just pointing out the only issue I (which is just opinion) have with the glass cockpit portion, specifically the G500. Not a deal breaker and I'd buy it all over again if I had to.

This is actually covered in the forum, way back when the airplane was first released..

Since the J41 was your original preference, as an outside shot, you could consider VirtualCol's Jetstream 31 with ISG avionics added to it, to soup it up a bit. It's not bad for a cheapo add-on and of course it is a Jetstream.

The 337 is great if you like flying unusual, odd-ball aircraft, that you would rarely see at your local airport.

But my favourite Carenado products (in order) are:-

1). C208 Caravan: beautifully done and so versatile.

2). Malibu: Exquisite, glass cockpit but very FPS friendly.

3). Bonanza F33A. A nice, real-world aircraft, that's a lot like the real one.

I do also love most aspects of the Centurion 210, but it suffers awful shimmering in the VC for me, so the F33A has overtaken it as my 4 seat single piston choice.

Re: The Stationair 206: a lovely Carenado aircraft in it's time, but very old now and nowhere near the standard of the other Carenado aircraft here.

David.
