Flight1 162 Skycatcher

Featured Replies

I see they updated it.

Does anyone own it and is it worth buying for full simulation?

I've tried Carenado and find them very basic. The other planes I own are mostly from Digital Aviation so you have an idea of the detail and difficulty I like.

Is the flight1 up to the same standard or is it just another Carenado "fun" plane?

Flight 1 stuff is usually pretty authentic, and this is true for the Skycatcher, although you should perhaps bear in mind that the 162 Skycatcher is Cessna's replacement for the 152, i.e. it is a basic trainer that is also suitable for personal use. So in spite of the futuristic glass cockpit gauges which replace the standard old steam gauges of earlier Cessnas, and the big GPS display, it is essentially a fairly simple aeroplane, the difference being in more modern construction and more modern avionics presentation.

Thus, if you want a simple aeroplane, then it is a good rendition of Cessna's new offering, but if you are expecting to fly complex IFR approach procedures with it, you will probably have to add more capable avionics to it. Of course since it is a Flight 1 offering, you could try it out for yourself, and if unhappy with it, return it for a refund, so I suppose you can find out for yourself if you wish to. A more complex offering from Flight 1 which may float your boat if you want a fancy single-engined Cessna, would perhaps be their Cessna T182T, which does allow one to do WAAS approaches and stuff like that, since it has more capable glass cockpit avionics including a good simulation of the Garmin 1000.

I join in on Alan's words. I don't doubt that the Skycatcher is a nice plane, but the 182T from F1 gives you more speed, power and that pretty decent G1000. It's a question of the money though as the 182 comes at a higher price, but maybe you make use of that 30 day money back and try her.

Did you try the Katana from the former DA guy Marcel Felde (sold under Aerosoft label) yet? If you like the DA ways of simulating all those little things, you may love what the Katana 4X gives you. The price is close to the one from the Skycatcher I think.

I suppose it would be better for someone planning their first solo, wantin to try the actual plane.

So is the G1000 on the T182 as good as their Mustang?

Also has anyone guess the ETA of the full Cessna simulation that PMDG is working on?

Oh, don't place such rumours.

The G1000 in the Mustang has the same feature set as in the C182T. The changed parts are the system display and engine parameters of course. So Navigraph delivers the updates and the rest is done via that gauge. Not too lite on the frames I must admit, but still flyable. Just expect a slightly higher fps impact than with non-glass GA planes.

Huh? More info....

I don't have the C162 but it does look excellent. If you prefer no glass, and want the same LSA type plane.... try Ant's Eaglet:

My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL |

True, Anthony's planes are a tip. Eaglet or Sierra, both are great and come in at very low prices.

The eaglet is extremely well-done (And there's a demo version). I promised Anthony I'd buy it and never did lol! *smack!* It was so well done that if it were a bit faster I would have bought it in a heart beat.... again too slow like the Katana 4x...

Man, I'm picky tonite!

Yup, another thumbs up for Ant Airplanes from me, definitely consider those, they are excellent.

I think I'm falling into the trap of becoming a collector of airplanes :)

I already have the Dornier Do-27, the Katana 4X, and the Cub, they do cover my slow speed sight seeing desires sufficiently!

Being such an important plane I just felt I had to have a good Cessna.. but then if I don't want to fly it because the Katana is better then what's the point hey.

I'm sure I read somewhere that a Cessna may be one of PMDGs "Secret Projects", thought it was on this site somewhere but now I can't find it lol.

RealAir says they are doing a "popular Cessna trainer", but who knows when that will be. They said it will be after the project they're working on now, which is another Diamond (or similar GA aircraft)

Im also looking at the Milvis Cessna.. So many cessnas so little time

One thing of note. Just like the Mustang, our 162 Skycatcher was done in official partnership with Cessna.

Which is another reason for me to pick up a copy of it! I have been temped by it many times before...

I would also vote for the 182, unless you fly a 162 in real life!

The 182 is a plane you can fly cross-country, the 162 really is a "trainer"..
