What FSX GA planes have the best FDE

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

So I am just ripping it with P3D, my sim is smooth and beautiful running at 30 fps with no stutters or skips, and now I am looking for planes that have the best FDE, I feel like I can take advantage of well done FDE now that my sim is so buttery.

Here's my list so far(I am interested in piston/GA stuff)

Anything by RealAir(I have everything they have made)

Baytower Vans RV-7

MilVix Cessna 310

---

So what am I missing? Also I need stuff that goes into P3D without any issues, so for now Carenado stuff is off the table.

All feedback is appreciated, thanks

A2A Accusim Cub (All of their stuff is fantastic, not sure if you are into the old warbirds though)

Sibwings Birdog seems to be good

Carenado aircraft with Bernt Stolle FDE mods are very good (He did the Milviz 310 FDE, as well as their T-38 and F-15)

Shane Gavin

Adding to the ones already being named, all A2A, latest Carenados, Aerosoft Bronco, Dimona, Katana, Discus, Catalina, Digital Aviation Cheyenne and Do-27, Flight1 C182T and BN-2 Islander, Lotussim L-39, Orbx Lancair, Ant's Sierra and Drifter.

You also get very good docs on all of them, giving you some numbers and tables.

I can't stop flying the Ant's Sierra since I bought it years ago. It's an amazing little plane!

I bought the Tecnam a while back, Thanks for the replies, guy,

I agree with the A2A stuff of course, but I am really more interested in flying/navigating that managing engines and temps(just my personal style).

Unfortunately, getting the newest carenado stuff to work in P3D has been an exercise in frustration.

BTW Jose, are you flying out of KBKV? I keep my little plane at KZPH.

F1 C182T and Ant's Sierra are my favourite GA singles. Having only flown a C172SP in real life, I can't really say if they're completely accurate but they do feel the best to me.

I have no idea which a/c have the best FDE's, but I like Carenado's 185 and 337 (FDE's by Bert Stolle?), and Baytower's RV-7. Posts on various forums, from RL pilots, say they are accurate. Only having flown, like 40 years ago, an Aeorcana Champ, how would I know?

But the above mentioned aircraft, with full flaps and fine pitch, really drop fast. I can be pretty sloppy on my landing pattern because of this, and am wondering if this is realistic?

Anything from RealAir <3

Milviz T-38a

Well, I think the most realistic FDE can be found on several of the planes already mentioned, primarily the Baytowers RV-7, and the A2A Cub, which unlike it's warbird siblings, is definitely a fly and navigate plane rather than an engine management aircraft. Although you won't fly fast. :-)

I'll add two others not mentioned so far that also offer very realistic FDE. Classics Hanger's BF-108 Taifun has very nice flight dynamics. And the new KC Republic Seabee does one of the most realistic spins of any aircraft I have (and I have a lot!).

I agree with the comments about Ant's Sierra. And the latest stuff from Aerosoft is very nice as well, including their Dimona, with it's excellent prop physics.

I don't fly the RealAir planes much anymore. I think they pushed the boundaries when they first came out, but other producers have gone beyond them in terms of realism in recent years, I think.

Really? Here are a few customer feedbacks on the current RealAir Dukes, from Pilots, and in some cases, Duke owners and operators:

'33 years in command, 15 years simming, for the first time both universes have met with this awesome product. Thanks guys for an impressive and great experience flying your Turbine Duke.' (from a retired airline captain who is also an Avsim moderator).

"'...This plane has all the great handling and "feeling" of a Beech - e.g. a joy to fly. I don't know how you guys do it - but a non moving desktop feels so real...what a wonderful instrument platform....... finally I have something close to what I fly that handles both in fm and instrument response like it should. This makes the Duke extremely useful for me. There are few FS titles that fly with this kind of instrument response so necessary for hand flown approaches. " (From an experienced GA pilot who used our Dukes for his IFR practice, also on Avsim staff.)

"'The Duke flying characteristics follow my experience with Beech aircraft.........exactly. I find it hard to believe that RealAir was able to capture this feeling; but they did. This airplane is a true joy to handlfy. Although sitting in a chair in my den, they have allowed me to recapture the feeling of a well balanced aircraft" .. from a Beech Aircraft owner and pilot.

"'EXCELLENT job with the Beechcraft Duke! I've been test flying it for two days now, and can tell you - as a real-world charter pilot with over 4000 hours - you've done a marvelous job recreating the Duke! I can't tell you how pleased I am to "fly" an airplane in FSX with such realism!"

"'Congratulations! It almost flies like my own. Great job!' ...(from another Duke owner and pilot)

Note these responses are from PILOTS, not from sim-only users. Many comments on FDE's and general handling can often come from sim users who have never flown a real aircraft and rarely do more than take off, climb, cruise and land in ideal or unchallenging conditions. We not only were the first developer to stretch the aerodynamic, and other, limitations of FSX that others are adopting now, many of our innovations having been copied but packaged in a different way by others, but we continue to find ways to improve for the future and our forthcoming Lancair Legacy will demonstrate that.

It is interesting that the most enthusiastic comments we tend to receive are nearly always from those who actually fly for a living, or who are long-hours pilots.

Best Wishes,

I would wish for devs not focusing on the critics only, but on the praises in the first place.

Rob, a ton of users stated positive things about your planes and one guy said he doesn't like them any more. Does it really need a large 'defending my product' post then? Open question and surely not only pointed at Realair. Besides, personal preference tends to stay personal preference, regardless of other opinions.

If it helps, me likes Realair planes very much and I'm looking forward to your new Lancair project.

Sure it's only one post and normally I let things like this alone, but to say we are somehow falling behind is a bit much!
