May 23, 201214 yr Commercial Member First, I want to make it clear that I'm not trying to compare manufacturers/developers/whatever here. I'm simply attempting to come to an understanding of if I'll be able to enjoy another product that's not from PMDG, but I expect it can come close. I've always had a thing for the 757, and since there isn't anything out there that's been hailed as PMDG quality (or similar), I've been looking into the QW version. The manual looks pretty good, as does the VC, but my issue is I haven't heard much about it. I don't need a failures model, but I need the systems to work properly. I need the gear handle to move to the off position. I need the FMC to work properly and be updatable (it is, as far as I know). There are more things I could list, but I think you catch where I'm going here. Basically, I want to know that, even though I'm expecting slightly less immersion in not having a failures model, I need it to be able to run through normal flows without having to make concessions. The reason I'm posting here is that I know people who fly PMDG aircraft generally tend to have higher standards (akin to mine), and I'd like to know what your take is on it, if you have it. May 23, 201214 yr Hi The systems are very light. They marketed it towards people who don't want to do flows etc. Best Lee
May 23, 201214 yr I don't want to let go of the hope that LevelD will deliver theirs. Captain Sim has a new version on the plan, and if they can manage to iron out the bugs and add some new features, it might be nice. Jim Shield Cybersecurity Specialist
May 23, 201214 yr To elaborate a bit further on Lee's post, QW kept "lite" the procedures associated with powering up the 757 from a cold-and-dark state. They did not skimp on details related to autoflight, the FMC (which data are updated via Navigraph), and other in-flight procedures. The FMC and cockpit ND and PD were developed by Ernie Alston (of FSBuild and ISG1 fame). As a frequent flyer of PMDG's MD-11, J4100, and 737NGX, I rather like the QW757. May 23, 201214 yr Nobody mention, QW757 has a pretty nice sound pack. There is no pressure system manageable, no CVR test, no ACARS, but calling it light is not true. FMC works pretty good, VNAV sometimes causing overspeed (when climbing and ATC does not clear us further before reaching armed FL), but one can set low CI to avoid that. I would recommend the QW757 version. I have spend it in ~200-300 hrs with a lot of fun. Bartłomiej Ender
May 23, 201214 yr Kyle: Don't even consider a CS 757 no matter what version it is. I puchased version 4.4 in December 2009. It was flyable after you got all the bugs out and did numerious work arounds. To cite several examples: (1) Constaint "Don't Sink" warnings during a ILS Approach even though "Don't Sink" is a susppose to be a warning during initial climb. (2) FMC wind pages are eye candy only. You could enter a 200 mph headwind and the T/D and ETA at destination would not change. T/D and ETA at destination are usually 11-12 minutes apart on any high altitude flight. FMC will not calculate a T/D on many routes unless a work around is used. (3) Speedbrakes make no sound. (4) Cabin Altitude on a high altitude flight is 17000-18000 feet. You are just flying dead people around. There were a lot of other issues but I don't remember them now because I have not flown the 757 since last summer. Version 4.5 was so bad that it was replaced within a month with 4.6 which is almost as bad. On the CS forums people lament the fact that they didn't save their 4.4 version but deleted it when 4.5 came out. I have the 757-200, 757-200F, 762, and 767-300 and they are all pieces of junk. I have the installers but they are not installed. A version 5.0 is in the works now. I have no idea about the timeline on that project. Michael Cubine Michael Cubine

Here's a link to the QW757 manual: http://qwsim.com/fil...ual_SP2_Sec.pdf Looking at the manual was one of my first orders of business, as it's a good indicator, but sometimes people copy the manuals verbatim from the real thing and expect you to figure out what works and what doesn't. Thanks for your perspective. That really helps me make my decision. Nobody mention, QW757 has a pretty nice sound pack. I beta'd it in the initial group and wasn't too impressed. I think I ended up buying it because it was all that I knew was available back in FS9. Because of what I learned there, I never ended up getting the 767s. Kyle Rodgers

May 23, 201214 yr Brings me to the question..... Anybody tried the 146 yet? Obviously its FS9 only at this point... but systems, dynamics... they should be at least close enough to FSX version... --Peter Fabian
May 24, 201214 yr The QW Avro RJ is really rather good and the support forum is answered quickly by the developers. The VC and 2D are not up to PMDG standards graphically but most systems are simulated to a large extent. The RJ seems to be simulated in much greater depth than the QW 757 (which isn't close to realistic enough for my taste). I'm looking forward to the FSX version and the 146 models.
