June 5, 201214 yr I was just surfing A.net for any interesting news and goings on. Came across a comment while in the "Concorde for the Diamond Jubilee" thread that said the 'Intrepid Air Museum cant even keep their Concorde in good condition'. Here's a photo link that was issued on that post....http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l233/mateu21/June302008Concorde027.jpg In my thoughts this is a pure disgrace to see the condition now, of one of "THE" most beautiful aircraft to have ever been produced and this is G-BOAD's fate? The nose section was hit by a truck and broke off, and the aircraft has had kids climb all over it... I could only imagine what kids would do to it!!! Whats your opinion on this?
June 5, 201214 yr Yeah it's a shame, but then again they probably are not going to be able to preserve all of them, so long as a few of them remain preserved, we'll still be able to check them out. Fortunately for me, the most famous one of all - G-BOAC - is in good hands at Manchester a mere five miles from my home. I've been to see her a few times, even had a sit in the pilot's seat - yeah I know, I'm a big kid, but it was cool. Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

I too was on G-BOAC... back when It first opened to the public I think late 2004!? It sure was a treat!! Sat in Michael Jacksons seat and the Queen Mothers etc... Also sat in the Captains seat and talked to a previous captain about what it was like to fly Concorde. The flight deck is one of the most cramped and thinnest cockpits I have been into on a Commercial aircraft, but still magnificent!! Regards Ciarán
June 6, 201214 yr I agree with Al, It is expensive to preserve them all. Lot's of people in financial trouble these days and museums are in trouble, so perhaps better to concentrate on preserving the best examples of the aircraft and not all. June 6, 201214 yr That photo is over three years old. I live around there, the Concorde was put in Floyd Bennett Field (The airfield was used back in WWII and is across the bay from JFK) a few years ago before moving to the Intrepid Air and Space Museum. Here are some pics of it being installed and on display. You can go inside for around $25 if i'm not mistaken. That includes a tour of the cockpit. The Concorde has been there for over three years now....and it couldn't be in better condition! Danny
June 6, 201214 yr Author The Concorde has been there for over three years now....and it couldn't be in better condition! I visited the Intrepid Air and Space Museum in October of 2010, Went on the Concorde and I must say I was pretty disappointed to say the least! All the seats were blockaded by a plastic shield the cockpit was blocked off with this very hard to see through plastic!! But I really enjoyed the Intrepid and the little awsome flight simulator they have that you can control yourself and go upside down in... It was Awsome!! ^_^

The Concorde in Seattle had the pilots hat stolen that was wedged in the bulkhead when the aircraft shrunk down. Chris Miller
June 6, 201214 yr I have visited the one in Seattle (2008) and it was in like new condition. They have an environmental unit attached to climatize the plane even. They also had the plexi glass there but it was low enough and had holes in it for you to shoot pictures (a great idea to preserve it). Picture of the cockpit I was ticked we couldn't get inside 747 #1! They didnt have enough staff that day for a tour of that old legend.... Al Stiff
June 6, 201214 yr I will give credit to the USA as they do keep museums well funded and artefacts well preserved. Most other countries don't spend enough in this area. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
June 6, 201214 yr I don't quite agree on the statement that the Concorde is the most beautiful aircraft, because it's not. :Straight Face: However, I do agree on the fact that they are not preserving these history-making airplanes correctly. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
June 6, 201214 yr I don't quite agree on the statement that the Concorde is the most beautiful aircraft, because it's not. :Straight Face: Hi Diego, Then my question to you is...What is the most Beautiful Aircraft??? I agree it won't be everyones favourite but it is an icon. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
June 6, 201214 yr Hi Diego, Then my question to you is...What is the most Beautiful Aircraft??? Airbus A380. :Just Kidding: Probably the Boeing 767 or 777... i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
June 6, 201214 yr Airbus A380. :Just Kidding: Probably the Boeing 767 or 777... To be honest...the 757 has always been my favourite....I know it is not super sonic and dated by todays standards. I always considered the 757 to be Boeings Hot Rod. A commercial liner with some extra performance due to its size. Royal New Zealand Air Force has them and here is one in Antartica: Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
June 8, 201213 yr I'll never forget the RNZAF 757's impressive take off over here at YMAV at the Avalon Airshow a couple of years ago. The only time I've seen a passenger jet thrown around more than that was when the Russians were here with a couple of jets. From memory they had an il-96, il-76, il-78 & tu-204 all of which were literally being "thrown" around the sky. -Anthony Young- "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
June 9, 201213 yr Aviation took a giant leap backwards when the Concorde was scrapped; you'd have thought the US, Brit and French governments would have had the foresight to take over a couple each and stored them, ready to jet top politicians to worldwide crisis summits. I mean, an Air Force One Boeing 747 takes about 7 hours NY to London, whereas Concorde could do it in 3.
