Will it be set only in Hawaii... with the possibility of an Alaskan sequel?

Everybody is always fascinated by the subject of flight since modern movie like Airport 75 I really hope that Hollywood take the wave.

There are so many story that you can be realized that can full-fill an entire blockbuster shop.

Imagine a movie about Fling Tigers.

Daveo, uncalled... *moved.

Looking forward to this movie!

It looks like MD-80...with winglets....an EFIS layout from a Q400 and a PFD from a 737NG.

That's one thing I'm usually disliking in movies, is that they are often not real to life when it comes to airplanes.

Ever saw Executive Decision, and how they claim to be flying at some 30,000+, yet being in the range of cumulus clouds and with slats+flaps extended?

Then wrong looking cockpit layouts, etc?

Oh, I don't know -- I thought Airplane! was quite realistic..

I love Executive Decision. It is one movie that I didn't let inconsistencies get in the way. The major reason was that it was based on Kurt Russell's character learning to fly so it didn't overly focus on authentic components. The movie did that well, and the story was golden.

Runaway wasn't a great movie I feel, although it had the right qualities. The story has to be right, and in Runaway I felt the story, although partly based on truth, was not well done.

If anything they could have made viewers aware of the risky operating procedures the engineers were using and the terrain in that territory. So the story didn't build properly.

In Executive Decision the story was built upon a complex set of situations which needed to be understood to be enjoyed. The chemical weapon cargo was central to the theme of Executive Decision. And the elusive 'enemy' characters were too.

I love Executive Decision.

Yes yes, don't get me wrong - great movie. Almost each movie made from the books by Tom Clancy. I'm aware that flying is not the center of the movie, just sayin, it's not the only movie where I noticed wrong things. But I guess that's with many things in life: the things you know and you learned about, you are going to notice mistakes.

Actually some aeroplane movies can be quite surprisingly realistic when you'd expect them not to be. Ever see Turbulence (1997) with Ray Liotta and Lauren Holly? It's a throw-away 'there's a serial killer on board an airliner' movie, but good fun for all that (with Ray Liotta hamming it up wonderfully). Surprisingly though, that movie actually makes a believable stab at a cabin crew attendant taking over the controls of a 747 and landing it by being talked through programming the FMC by another 747 pilot on the ground (played by Ben Cross), in order to make an automated landing, which is almost certainly what would happen in real life should that situation occur. Moreover, it actually featured a genuine real life airline (Tower Air), which is something of a rarity for disaster movies.

Of course anyone who watched Executive Decision knew that Kurt Russell was going to be able to land that 747 easily - after all, he flew the Gullfire over Leningrad and landed it on top of the World Trade Center when he was Snake Plissken in Escape from New York, and of course he could also fly a Bell 206 in a total Arctic Whiteout when he was JT McReady in The Thing. :LMAO:

Back with old Denzel, I agree that 2010's Unstoppable (if that's what you mean when you say Runaway) was disappointing, in spite of some good performances from Denz, Chris Pine and indeed most of the supporting cast. Being a bit of a train buff and knowing the tale of the real incident upon which it was based, I was kind of looking forward to seeing if they could pull it off. Tony Scott is not a bad director, but his MTV-esque jump-cut style of shooting and post-process editing can be a pain in the &@($* to watch sometimes; to be fair it suited Man On Fire very well though, which is another good movie with big Denz in it. But there is nothing one can do to make a story about something that is on rails, from pretty much being a 'story that is on rails', with really only two outcomes possible - they either stop it or they don't. Nevertheless, Denzel Washington has a compelling screen presence and an everyman quality which makes him easy to identify with, so I am looking forward to seeing Flight, because beyond the simple 'will they land it or won't they?' aspect, it seems to also focus a lot on the investigative pressures on pilots who are involved in incidents too, which is an interesting thing to delve into.

For a far better runaway train movie incidentally, one should seek out 1985's wonderful Runway Train, which is based on a story by the legendary movie maker Akira Kurosawa, although sadly not directed by him, instead being made by Andrei Konchalovsky, who pulls some great performances from Jon Voight and Eric Roberts, and the cinematography is excellent.
