DX10 Flashing Runways - Experimental Shader

Featured Replies

That Has done the trick for now and it is acceptable. I still would like to hear from Red Baron and Steve for their input on how to make it even better. My performance has doubled and all my sliders are now to the Right. I thrown some weather at it and it didn't seem to slow things down at all. I'm running a I7 930 not OC, with a 460 2 gig video card. Before this fix I was only getting a average FR of 15 with sliders backed down to dense. Now I am getting a average FR of 25 to 30 with all sliders to the right. Thanks again for sharing this with us.

Like I said, if you have REX, going into the configurations panel and selecting all the DX10 optimizations should help. Also, as I understand it, DX10 mode is better optimized (at least on my system), so turning down a few settings in NVIDIA control panel/ inspector might help a bit (I only say this because in DX9, my 530 can run 4xAS, and 32xCSAA with FXAA enabled with no noticeable difference in performance from no enhancement). Also, if you have transparency turned on, try lowering that a bit...I found it was a major FPS killer around clouds.

Total Distance Flown: 65,141.138 Nautical Miles (In reality-------I don't have THAT much time to waste on FSX).

Thanks for the responce I have already done most of the adjustments you have stated and am quite pleased with the results. I have turned down some of my settings to allow for faster redraws. I mainly fly in ORBX land and that can be quite draining on the system. I will ck my nvidia setting but I think I have already addresed that. Thanks again.

No problem! I am not going to lie, I have modest hardware (for FSX), and seeing as you have an Intel build with a GPU roughly 3x-4x faster than mine, you should be getting pretty good fps. Then again, I have REX only, not ORBX.

Out of curiosity, what are your scenery and traffic settings? I tend to run everything maxed in scenery (except for mesh, ground rez, and water; all of these are nearly maxed though), and in DX9 mode I get 15+FPS over Manhattan with heavy cloud cover.

Hey Paul,

I followed your instructions to the letter, unfortunately, I'm still getting 30 FPS as opposed to 60 FPS. I might just stick with DirectX 9 for now. Thanks though.

If you followed his instructions to the letter as you said, then 30FPS would be the highest you would get if you set the limit to 30 as he posted!

UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0 ** 30

Thanks

Tom

My traffic settings are about 20% cars. I run ultimate traffic2 at abot 60%. My sliders I have backed down to AutoGen dense and mesh resolution to 5mand water to 2x low. Everything else is to the right. I do use REX and are also using Word Not Allowed's tweeks except for the Nvidia Inspector settings that I have lowerd for now. I lock my frames at 30 in game. The DX10 water shader works great. I get mostly now 25 to 30 fps but somtimes that will go down to 15 if I get close to some big add on airports and or add on citys but not all the time. I usally judge my FSX by smothness and not frames but I do like the fact that my textures are loading in faster than dx9 so things are quite clearer and sharper. My computer is a HP and cant be OC so any thing helps when it comes to performance. I am 2 yrs into my upgrade cycle as I usally only upgrade every 5yrs. So I have to live with what I got. I really dont want to go out and spend a $1000. dollars right now as Im living on a tight budget and I have bigger priorities to spend money on.

Ok. I am on an HP also, and totally understand what you are saying about budgets and priorities lol. Considering your settings and hardware, that seems to be a very good level of performance!

Do you really need the tweaking? According to your specs, FSX should be flying! If you are already getting good performance, I wouldn't recommend tweaking too much--It becomes a black hole of hope... ;)

Also, this thread probably isn't the right place for your question.....there are entire ones dedicated to tweaking elsewhere in the Avsim forums. I only point this out because you will most likely have better luck with those.

Bad English is no problem! I know Englishmen who use bad English, too!!

What hardware do you have, and can you post your fsx.cfg here, so we can see what it looks like at this moment?

Yeah - I've been in Canada since 1970, and going back is no fun at all! They think I'm a Yank!! Cheeeesh!!

Hi, thanks for the guide.. but I need a help.. I dont have ANY shader10 folder. (btw, I know how to search) but there are no shaders folder. So.. I applied this fix and now the sky is black.. maybe I have to rebuild the shadows right? but if I dont have this shader folder, how can I do it?

thanks in advance!

When you run in DX10 for the first time, it creates the shaders10 folder for you.

I think you must have your system and application files still hidden, Jari:

When you start FSX in its normal DX9 mode - a dx9 shaders cache folder is created automatically. It is:-

"C:\Users\(Your user_name_here)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX\Shaders\"

and, likewise - when you start FSX in the DX10 Preview mode - a dx10 shaders cache folder is created automatically. It is:-

"C:\Users\(Your user_name_here)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX\Shaders10\"

Check your "Windows Explorer -->Tools-->View-->Hidden files and folders" - ok?

and - yes - any time you make any change to any file inside your \FSX\ShadersHLSL\ folder - you will need to delete the shaders cache folders in the 2 paths above.
