DX10 Flashing Runways - Experimental Shader

Featured Replies

Decided today to give this one last try....and I'm really glad I did.

Putting the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION = 0.1 and setting the internal FPS limiter to 30 made everything work.

I have all sliders maxed out, bloom enabled, and was flying around FSDT KLAX at night with Ultimate Terrain X night lighting set to max.

Frames were a solid 29-30! (sometimes dropping to around 22-25 depending on loading some parts of the city)

I am totally blown away at the smoothness of the sim even with bloom enabled. It looks like 1/2 Vsync does work in DX10 through Inspector, just needed to get rid of unlimited frames in FSX options.

I'll never fly with DX9 again. I am still shocked at how well FSX runs now. It's like I'm on an 8-core processor. Truly amazing!

The only downside, is the night textures at some addon airports do not work, like FSDT KLAX, no textures on the Air Bridges. Glad you got it sorted.

OK.. What is at the end of that pathname, then? Can you post a screen shot, Squish? It HAS to be there!

I'm sorry - it is there.

I didn't know FSX also had a folder in /local next to /roaming. >_> this folder only has shaders and shaders 10.

Why isn't it in roaming??

NP, Squishy.

The "Roaming" profile is the (your) profile that's used when your machine is part of an NT network, and used when you want to log into another machine. Developed as part of Windows NT network management years ago. Probably won't have FSX info in there because the FSX Aces Team decided that you're not going to access FSX from a different machine.

Actually all my FSX info is in roaming except for two folders: shader and shader10

John doe

That's fine: doesn't matter for this purpose: all that does matter is that you do have a \local\ folder, and that your two Shader cache folders are inside it. Life is good, once again.

Steve thank you very much indeed for the flickering runway fix. It worked like a charm at Edwards AB, and at VFR London's City Airport.

I wonder if I might ask you to have a look at this thread, as I'm trying to find a fix to the flickering trees, cranes and the Millennium Dome in VFR London. Have you experience of this, and do you know of a cure ?

I'd be very grateful if you could assist, or point me in the right direction to sorting it out.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Gave this a shot. Unfortunately, with DX10 off, I get around 20 more FPS than I do if I turn it on. I loaded up the NGX at a random airport (Pittsburgh), and with DX10 on, I had 25-30 FPS. With DX10 off and everything else the same, I had 50-55 FPS in the VC of the NGX.

As for locking frames, that only results in stuttering for me. I just have mine set to unlimited and I use the force Vsync tweak in the CFG file.

Jeff Thomson

What's your hardware, Jeff? ...and can you post the important parts of your fsx.cfg here, too? so we can take a boo at it? Locking frames should result in a smoother ride, so it sounds like there's sumpun fishy down ther!

I run a Core i7 2600K @ 4.5 GHz, GTX 570 1.28 GB VRAM, 16 GB DDR2 RAM. Also running Windows 7 64-bit as well.

Normally FSX is extremely smooth (no stuttering), however, with DX10, it's very different. Hopefully I can get it sorted out, otherwise, it's not a big deal. My FPS is fantastic without it.

Looking at your signature, assuming that you are using Nvidia GTX 4XX, GEX & UTX? With all settings max out, how the heck did you manage to get 29-30 FPS? Really put a puzzle on me as I'm trying all setting including Paul J NI settings. I am still unable to get above 12FPS in EGLC(London City). Perhaps I'm missing something here.

Are you using the Fiber Fraction line in the FSX.cfg?

I set mine to .15

Hey guys, very interested in this fix but I can't get vsync to work, I'm trying to force it through nvidia control panel with no luck, horrible screen tearing no matter what I do. Is it meant to be set in FSX.CFG?

No, you set it through nvidia inspector.
