What is the Difference Between Track IR 4 t0 Track IR 5?

Featured Replies

Hi guys i do have to admit after reading some post about Track IR it is shame i haven't bought it yet. I really didn't have my mind on it since very one talks about new aircraft that will be soon out an stuff. But i always wonder how the got the camera to move so realistic like if they were in the pilot seat or something . But yet again i never ask . So help me out guys am here looking in ebay at to different track IR version , version 4 an version 5 . What is the difference between both of them in terms of fsx only because that is the only game i will be using it for . Someone said track Ir 5 is not that big a difference in fsx it is basically kind of the same. So can some give me some details . I mean i wouldn't want to buy version 5 if version 4 can do same movement an stuff as version 5 does . Some one also said the version 5 improves a lot for other games but for FSX it is the same as version 4.

Here is what i got on ebay

Please let me know what you guys think about each one . Please describe also a little what each can do to help me pick out the one that i would like the most.

The basic difference is resolution. Although I confess to not being able to see the difference. Also, it's more expensive so it has to be better...right? :unknw:

Hello

I have had V3, V4 and V5.

The step up from V3 to 4 was noticeable but at that point I also switched from the cap and reflector clip to the Trackclip, maybe that was why.

But from V4 to V5 I did not feel that much difference.

I still use the 4.1.38 software with Version 5 hardware through personal preference and it works nicely.

One thing I will say is the V5 hardware has had the longest lifespan of all three units possibly because it seems to manage its power states better, these things can get a bit hot if left on all the time.

TrackIR 5 works with Ezdok (only important if you have got or are intending to get Ezdok!)

I've had v4 and now use v5 and one of the differences appears to be the larger angle v5 uses. This translates to a larger area where you can move and be detected by TrackIR.

TrackIR 5 is much, much more precise and usable at closer distances, and also has a considerably wider viewing angle (again, helping with tracking at closer distances).

Got it. Thanks for that, now I can tell my wife it was worth it.

Hi everyone let me just say i am very disappointed in myself . Because only now i know what Track IR does in flight simulator . Long time ago i kept seeing videos where the camera move in such a angle the looks so real . I normally thought it was just an fsx video that was edited using any program such as sony vegas or adobe premiere etc.. But as read post here in AVSIM now i see people always talking about it . Because let me just say i connect every day here in this forum an i don't see much people talking about it . Most of us are interested on what new aircraft will be coming out soon . But i read post someone made about Track IR yesterday in it caught my attention . So here i am now wondering which Track IR should i get . Track IR has different version there is version 4 which i saw most people using it , an there is version 5. What is the difference between the two in fsx. Someone told me if your buying track ir for fsx only to purchase version 4, because version 5 does the same thing version 4 does, that there is not much of a difference . So please give me some tips in which on to choose from ? Also share your experience with the current version you may have. That will help me choose between these 2 version .

These are the two version am try to choose from in ebay stores . Please let me know if is there any extra stuff i may need to work in FSX. I already have Ezdok camera addon

I believe another benefit of TIR5 over TIR4, is that it is not as affected by heat coming off the large monitors many of us have today.

Several of my friends have the older TIR4 devices and have created special mounts to place the device in front of the monitor so it runs cooler. When the TIR4 overheats, it displays wierd behavior.

I happen to have the TIR5 and have not experienced this heating issue as my 30" 2560 x 1600 dpi monitor runs very hot.

Hi you mention that you have 30" DPI monitor, you might be using HDMI if so. Can you point me in the right direction for which is the type of HDMI cable i should get. I have a RCA 32" LCD TV an i would like to try fsx with it . I know the HDMI cable will go in the back of the graphic card . But which HDMI cable should i used an brands or names you can give me will be helpful.

THanks

HDMI is a digital interface there is no varying degrees of picture quality depending on how much you pay for the cable, a £1 cable will display just as good a picture as a £100 cable. I bought a 5 metre HDMI cable from my local Sony centre for £20 and it was very well made and looks like it will last a very long time. Just avoid the cheap &@($* cables on Ebay which will probably fall to bits within 12 months and you should be OK. Don't pay more than £30 for a cable though, its a complete waste of money.

Cheers, Andy.
