June 23, 201213 yr Nope! It emulates a true FBW system (well, it might as well be the CWS on a true AP...)... the closest we can get to an Airbus in MS FLIGHT... Sorry for the joke .... If that was their intention they a) should have added that feature to my joystick and not mouse and B) should have added an airbus straight away. June 23, 201213 yr How many of these airfields will be bare bones strips of narrow worn grass/gravel/snow ? without any buildings. How many will be custom made? How many towns/cities custom/generic? Such lack of information could imply "they have not gotten to them yet" meaning the DLC is a far bit off? Myself I would like to have this Alaska Expansion Pack .... NOW most of Alaska's strips ARE just a strip with no buildings, so I imagine there will be quite a few of those
June 23, 201213 yr Yesterday I was disappointed to see the announcement of another "Basic" plane being offered as part of the Alaska package. But with more thought, I'm kind of happy about it. I'm more a scenery fan than a plane fan. While the thoughts of a full blown plane coming out are nice in a way, the fact is that it would be slower than what I have and within my work load there is only so much time for Flight. If Alaska is (for example) $30, but would have been $40 with a Deluxe Cub I would have still gone ahead and bought the package. Alaska is an area that I want to fly in, so "having" to buy a Deluxe plane as part of the package to do it would have been tolerable. I'd much rather get a Basic version of a plane that I don't want to fly and save any costs for a Deluxe that has more appeal. Flittering around Alaska at 80-90kts would have worn thin after a while. So I guess it boils down to what people want most. For me, it's scenery. For others, it's planes. Some want it all! Should be an interesting Wednesday, come next week? I am a scenery guy also, BUT my niggest fear is this. If they have no problem leaving out the cockpits in aircraft, what is there to stop them from leaving out parts of the scenery?? With that mindset I am unsure whether I will be getting Alaska or not, guess i will wait to see what else is offered with it. Best, Michael KDFW
June 23, 201213 yr The original announcement called for 1.2 million miles: (from Facebook) " We're excited to announce some upcoming DLC: the Journey to Alaska Pack, with over 1.2 million miles of captivating scenery, new aircraft and additional missions! Check out our photos for some teaser screenshots." Can we assume there will be a "part 2" of this scenery pack or did they just do some bad math? Just speculation, but what if they had to chop it up into 2 versions because it became obvious the Deluxe aircraft wouldn't be ready yet and would have to be included in "Part 2". Just looking for some glimmer of hope. A simple Google search reveals square mile measurements for Alaska to be anywhere from 500,000 to over 600,000 square miles, depending on which site you read and which measurement approach they used. So when MS says "over 600,000 square miles" it's safe to assume the Alaska pack will cover the entire state. As far as where they got 1.2 million miles from -- hell, that's anybody's guess. The MS Flight team has a pretty solid track record of coming up with absolutely nonsensical numbers. (Perhaps they included all the empty ocean area around Alaska... or they were just drunk and made the numbers up.) There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.
June 23, 201213 yr Sounds like reverse engineering: In the past you always waited a year after intial release for any Alaska/Hawaii high definition (as payware mind you, but that is what MS has become == payware central)
June 24, 201213 yr As far as where they got 1.2 million miles from -- hell, that's anybody's guess. The MS Flight team has a pretty solid track record of coming up with absolutely nonsensical numbers. (Perhaps they included all the empty ocean area around Alaska... or they were just drunk and made the numbers up.) There is no need to guess... they told us when they corrected it. They said square miles when they meant square kilometers. Or do you think it's just a coincidence that the news blurb from March when they announced Alaska was immediately changed to say "1.2 million square kilometers."

Or do you think it's just a coincidence that the news blurb from March when they announced Alaska was immediately changed to say "1.2 million square kilometers." Dude, buy a calculator. 1.2 million square kilometers = 463,000 square miles -- which is nowhere near the 600,000 square miles they're quoting now. There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.
June 24, 201213 yr Dude, buy a calculator. 1.2 million square kilometers = 463,000 square miles -- which is nowhere near the 600,000 square miles they're quoting now. Alaska is 586,000 Square miles. So they are off by a few miles.
June 24, 201213 yr Here's what it says now: We're excited to announce some upcoming DLC: journey with us to Alaska, with over 1.5 million square kilometers (~600,000 square miles) of captivating scenery, new aircraft and additional missions! Check out the screenshots below for an advance look. Emphasis mine. Oh yes... it also says "additional missions." Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
June 24, 201213 yr Alaska is 586,000 Square miles. So they are off by a few miles. Yeah, I've seen estimates anywhere from 570,000 to around 660,000. One reference said that the upper estimates include water area as well. I guess we can use the Icon for those areas -- more rescue missions anyone? :lol: There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.

June 24, 201213 yr One of the guys "Press N to skip to your next waypoint" was invented for. But there are some "hardcore simmers" like that... ones that are completely clueless on how to get from Point A to Point B if you take away their mapping-map GPS and AFCS. I just have to chuckle every time I hear about one.
