You guys "wanna" see some cool light for FSX..

Rob,

Can you tell us what exactly you disabled in the UTX control panel to get the lights back on the roads? Even with roads and traffic disabled I can't seem to get any of the highway lights to work.

James

Sure. The reason why you might not see the lights is because disabling UTX roads and traffic in the set up app still doesn't re-instate the default roads or traffic in FSX, because UTX has a running exclude bgl which still blocks default roads. This is of course quite a flaw in UTX and rather inconvenient. What I did was - after disabling UTX roads and traffic - to start FSX and go to settings/scenery library. If you scroll down the scenery list you'll see that UTX roads might be still ticked and also ticked is "exclusions for default scenery". It is one or both of these than need to be unticked. Please do this with caution because there might be a risk of crashing FSX but it hasn't crashed my FSX yet.

Usually the scenery database will reset after this and you'll see the default roads right away.If you don't you might need to restart FSX. Just to be clear, disabling UTX roads in UTX setup does NOT enable default roads. It merely stops UTX roads from showing.

I'm pretty certain now that the beetlelights will not work except on default FSX roads, though they can be seen scattered on other scenery that is not a road.

Hope you find this useful.

Hello everyone, due to the large amount of questions and suggestions about the product ExperienceX, we would like to inform you that the product is the suport disposal to solve the compatibility problems with GEX and UTX. Do not forget to send us your e-mail with the doubts.

Thank you.

This is the kind of activity I love to see. People working together to make the sim the best it can be. I have never been happy with FSX night lighting (although it's better than FS9 was IMHO). I bought UTX and GEX in hopes that would fix it but I can't live with the blobs of light thank you very much so I have lights turned off in UTX.

Re: ExperienceX - I am watching it and will probably purchase it. I really hope somebody comes up with a way to get multi-colored lights as that video on the original post seemed to show. I could swear I was looking out the window of a 737 or something from that vid. This got me very excited only to find it was a camcorder shot. Bummer deluxe.

Few shots guys I prefer a whiter light anyway not as in your face as utx but that might mean a bit more realistic up to the user, all and all glad I bought it you can also turn on utx lighting at the same time but that really gives you a light show lol

I do not speak for the developer with my comments, only as a beta-tester and user of the UTX products. Saying UTX has quite a flaw for not anticipating an add on five years down the road makes me wonder how detailed an already detailed program has to be? The support forums over the years have been hit with requests from bewildered customers. Trying to implement a setup tool for each and every possible scenario and then support same would be a nightmare, IMO.

Unchecking the exclusions layer from the Scenery Library will cause product wide duplication of items. Railroads, water bodies, shorelines and others will now show double.

It is possible to extract and layer individual features from within the exclusionary folder. Road exclusions are prefixed with a RD. Copying all of those files and making a new folder structure, then placed within the Scenery Library where it can be toggled on or off would be an option. I would hope that any user who initiates changes outside the normal scope and usage of the product will accept and understand that asking for a developer's support from those actions might be asking for too much. Again, only in my opinion.

" shorelines and others will now show double" hmm that is not good what if I click exclusions back on what would happen ?

Good points but this is not really one of those each and every scenarios. It's a simple option to disable UTX roads without also disabling default roads, but still using the rest of the excellent parts UTX offers. I don't think a small update would take that much work and effort. UTX is great. But whether experiencex lights existed or not, it would still have been a useful and popular option.

All the best,

Rob what do you think of my question what would you do, thanks buddy.

I don't know Richard, because I'm not sure what the exclusions do in detail. I haven't seen any disastrous consequences by disabling the exclusion bgls.

Kind Regards,

"Bracket", the developer, has responded quickly to a request to enable UTX lighting with his product. I think perhaps he might have under-estimated how many users would like his lights to work with UTX, and I acknowledge that overall it might be a small number compared to his core users. It was good of him to respond quickly and offer to help. In the interests of fairness I'm pointing this out and it's good to receive helpful responses. I do think this lighting has great potential once it has user-friendly options built into it.

Nice shots Richard!!

Now that's what I am looking for out of a product like this. I have yet to buy it, but is that what it can look like after you edit a bunch of the effect files or is that how it looks straight out of the box? I am not sure I want to spend a bunch of time editing files and experimenting to try and get that look of the lights unless it is fairly easy to accomplish right off the bat. I love the look of the white lights and the "bulb" size looks about right without being too big, but not yet so small that you cant really see them.

i think the halo.bmp has a big impact on street lights. I found a 512 x 512 size bmp that could be modfied using photoshop. You can make the lights smaller and the street lights do become smaller. You can replace these with star lights as well.

The Issue is, I have forgotten how to use photoshop so my editing the liights are not clean. But they can be made smaller just by resizing the halo.bmp I used Paint in win accessorties

The runway lights, its best to do that with setting parameters withing the fsx.cfg

I think getting the file size or resolution of the .bmp file down is crucial to this lighting effect. Each single light is calling a separate instance of that bmp file. if you tweak your autogen to show tighter clustered lights you can end up with several hundred separate instances of the same file triggered in your scenery. You can therefore see immediately how this impacts on frame rates.
