well wife shot me down, need new advice

Featured Replies

Ok so about a week ago i posted about building a new pc. Well my wife shot me down. So what i am going to do is try and upgrade my current pc. Where should i go? I want to get more performance out of it. My pc is mainly just for fsx. Would changing out my current phenom 965 BE that has been OC to 3.8 to one of the newer AMD chips be a good idea? I cant overclock past 3.8. Wont get stabel. I was thinking upgrane the CPU, upgrade to a H100 cooler, and a new case. What would be your advice on the next rout to take? Thanks

Windows 7 64bit, Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Ram 12GB, EVGA GTX760 2GB, Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard, Intel i5 2500k 3.3GHz (OC 4.4GHz), Corsair H80 liquid cooler, Coolermaster Elite 430 case.

Well in the long run it might be cheaper to build a new pc and take another wife ...... He%20He.gif

With kind regards,

Oh Bartbear... that was funny!

What I would do trooper is go back and take a look at your OC. That's a powerful chip. People get that up to 4.5Ghz is fairly common. Unless you just have a bad chip for OC. Since you are financially restricted, the best bang for the buck would be to invest in some good cooling (like the H100 or Nochtua), and crank that sucker up. If your case is old consider a larger one with the latest designs in airflow.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

Upgrading on the AMD side of things right now is a losing proposition. You may get slightly more performance out of a higher clocked FX chip, but the FX chips are slower at the same clock speed than their Phenom II predecessors so it's a moot point unless you can get significantly higher clocks. If you must upgrade, wait until the next iteration of FX chips comes out later this year, should be around October. At least then you'll have a decent upgrade without needing to OC to 5GHz+.

Put that "new pc money" into an interest-bearing account, and save it for a few months. Then maybe we'll have a new stepping of Ivy Bridge, as well as the new AMD line was mentioned. The interest-bearing account is a smart thing and you can get brownie points with the wifey, as well as more money for replacement/upgrading. I mean the pc, not the wife.

I got rid of the wife 7 years ago and have built 3 new systems since then in addition to lots of new software and add-ons.

If the wife won't get with the program, upgrade to single mode! I am now 75 and have 50 year old girlfriend - I am getting more of everything including hardware.

It is always easier to get a new wife. Do you need a wife upgrade too?

Best post ever,
