Thanks for the mini review.

What about the G1000? How is it simulated?

Thanks

Alright guys....

1. I took off with the default 172 at FlyTampa KBOS with 15 FPS. I took off with the CT182T at 12 FPS. Not so bad.

2. The exterior, IMO, is fantastic. I could see the places where the fuselage sections were riveted together.

3. Sounds are quite good, if a little loud for my taste.

4. the G1000 will have to be read on by myself. It has a VSPD table which I thought was impressive, but is probably old hat to the F1 users. The "lean assist" is a little confusing at first, and needed to be read on, but now makes sense. it follows a GPS flightplan, and the terrain display is impressive. I really do need to read up on the unit before judging it, however

addendum: This is the plane Accu-feel was made for. the shakes, the buffet at stall, everything. It's all there and used excellently

The G1000 is simulated is simulated greatly with Honeywell KFC225 autopilot controlling it. I love this aircraft. A NEED for a virtual hanger!

Very helpful insights. I'll be very curious what they're using for GPS data...whether it the old FSX data or if they have included their own...and if it's update-able.

Also, curious if bstolle did the FDE.

I'm not sure how to verify, but the opening screen seems to hint it is the old FSX data, saying the database expires Nov. 2007.

OT: Glenn I answered your question about the F1 182 north up in their forums...

I just found this post from bstolle that he was looking for pilots to help him with the FDE:

database expires Nov. 2007

I hope they provide a way to use another data source.

After messing around with the G1000: You can add and subtract fuel right from the G1000, on the SYSTEM page of the MFD. You can also add airspace alerts, change various display units e.g. temp, imperial or metric. activate and load approaches like a GPS, and I confirmed it is default FSX data

The g1000 looks good compared to other carenado "glass" but I think that if someone is looking for a really close representation of a g1000 the F1 is still better.

What are your thoughts on that?

So how's the flight dynamics of the Flight1 model? I'm not a fan of glass cockpits on small aircraft (a solid GPS, yes...but not the rest). Having said that, I am considering one of them.

Hi Gregg,

Personally, I like the F1 182. FDE is good. It feels like a slightly heavier 172 which would make sense I suppose.

I like the fact that when it's trimmed on approach it stays there. Proper power adjustment will allow good control over VSI without wild airspeed changes.

Just to elaborate on the Flight 1 offering(182s are my specialty). The climb/cruise performance is close to book performance. Handling/responsiveness feels accurate to the real a/c. All 182s seem to fly like a truck would drive, to put it in layman's terms. I feel this has been achieved.

The G1000 suite is fun, well implemented (mouse wheel usable), and isn't "superficial" feeling like some of the competition. That is to say it is an accurate simulation, including WAAS capability and Flight Level Change Mode. I will comment that I haven't spent much x-country time with it, as my friend (a local 182T owner) is the user of this add-on. I installed FSX and the 182T for him and played with it for several hours on his PC.

We all know Carenado has mastered aircraft modeling, and lately I've heard their flight models have gotten more attention. I personally can't comment as I haven't purchased a Carenado product since the C340(?).

and I confirmed it is default FSX data

That's unfortunate for VATSIM users.

I'm sure this G1000 shows some sort of improvement over the Malibu, but I do agree with you that, if the desire to operate a G1000 as close as possible comes up, the Flight1 is probably better for those people.

However, if all you want to do is use a fairly more complex than default G1000, or don't have the extra 18 bucks, or are more into the exterior, than I think you should look at this offering.

btw I'm taking the plunge into learning how to repaint, someone wanted me to try to repaint the 182T in my schools colors...anyone have any good tutorials?

Thanks for the first impressions on the new bird. Any show stoppers so far?

I had one "panel freeze", where the page just took an extremely long time to load, but I was over a pretty demanding scenery, so I think it was just memory issues. Other than that, not really.

Looking forward to that bstolle FDE!

One things for sure, Carenado's models are simply stunning!

Indeed. They are doing the best graphics in the sim world right now, hands down. The interiors are just as amazing as the outside. I wont be buying this one for now.. but am waiting for the TBM... by then their G1000 will have all the required Carenado Bugs removed. :P

EDIT PS: BSTOLL doing FDE's for all the new Carenado planes last I heard... They keep him on, and they will secure a spot in the legendary class.

They should really take it to the next level, and include "Safe Taxi" or similar ability to display airport layout on the PDF while on the ground.

Absolutely agree! Bernt's stuff is simply amazing. After messing with a few FDE's, I gained a whole new appreciation for the magic he is able to work.

That would be an awesome selling point for sure and I'd love to see it - especially for the new SR22 with Perspective!

Ugh - I was afraid of that. When, oh when, are developers going to come around to the fact that we do not want to be slaved to 5+ year old navdata in the way we fly these things (e.g. online flying or as training for RW aircraft, heck, even offline pleasure flying I want to have current procedures to match my current charts!).

I know we're probably talking about a huge development effort but why can't the FS manufacturers standardize on a usable, universal format for navdata updates instead of this Wild West approach to create whatever format of navdata you need -- even though it's completely proprietary to your product or using the old, outdated MS database.
