Let's talk about Level D Simulations...

Featured Replies

Bob's recollection of the history of things is accurate. I can even accept the rationale that we aren't owed anything. However, if future projects are stalled, I think we can all accept that. The 767 is wonderful and I have my hours in her. However, as things change (OS changes, driver changes), it seems that the software falls into disrepair. It would be easier to honor the past if we could get more of a vision beyond "soon come."

So, no, nobody "owes" me. However the thread-starting topic says "let's talk." Part of this discussion could be that we express our desire for news and information beyond a cryptic screen shot and party line from Darryl. If Wade, Laurent, or even Darryl could just lay it out for us, it would be appreciated.

Robert at PMDG comes on occasionally and says: x, y, and z are happening and this is where things stand. Robert at PMDG isn't making promises (their schedule also slips and they don't end up releasing everything the way they said they would), but they keep a channel open and maintain goodwill.

Nearly six years ago, Darryl did just that: http://www.leveldsim.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=11915&title=the-future-leveld-simulations

LDS were game changers, and many of us are rooting for them. Despite several interim 757 products having been released (some good ones I might add), I have space in my hangar and resources in my pocket for the LDS. So, I too share and express frustration at the lack of information.

I know better than to open a thread directly to Darryl on this, but this was a different kind of thread (in my eyes); this is a thread for us to share sentiment on the issue.

Facts are: the existing product could use some sprucing up and something besides "when it is ready" would work for any 757 that might emerge.

Should LDS continue in their current mode, it is their right. I would welcome more from them (information and product).

>>Some of us that have been around MSFS for a long time remember that the 767 was first done by an American Airline real world pilot.

Aah those were the days... Eric & Wade brought us a groundbreaking new plane to play with in FS2002 originally & v6.4 was the famous first complete release, I think.

I remember following the updates on the website every few weeks as they built and previewed each gauge as they went along.

Chris.

Who cares? They don't owe you an update.

Again, who said that? Asking "where is this addon" is not demanding an update, it's just wondering out loud. Nobody said "Release it by the end of 2012 or else!"

Can we please keep a civil attitude in this thread? It was running along nicely. Thank you.

What specifically is not civil about my comment? Did I use swear words or insult someone? I fail to see the problem with what I said. People are putting words in the mouth of those who merely wonder out loud where an addon is after 5 years, that's all. It isn't demanding it be released, or demanding an explanation, or insulting everyone. This is all just an overreaction to people who have a right to wonder if something with little info will ever be released after 5 years.

At this point, I don't think there is a point in waiting for a LDS757. The 767 didn't even take half as long as the 757 (if it's even still in development) is.

I think it's either been forgotten about or something went wrong with the program.

There have been staff promoted/hired whatever and I think maybe these staff are flexing their new found muscles. Just skip over the parts you don't want to read. Some people develop a big ego when issued with responsibility as we may now see.

With the 737 and coming 777 I have zero interest in the 757. For me the arrival time has been and gone with nothing arriving.

This is total speculation on my part, and I may have no clue what I'm talking about. I'm not sure these days.

But what if the delay is due to advances in technology? In the six years since the Level-D 757 was announced, huge advances have been made in the FS payware world. It seems like developers have learned so much more about FSX's limitations, for example, and how to find ways around them. So now we're seeing more advanced, detailed aircraft than ever before.

As I understand it, PMDG designed their 737 from scratch. Not a single line of code was carried over from the 747, MD-11, or any other plane. What if LDS is doing something similar--designing the 757 from the ground up, based on the latest things they've learned about how FSX works?

In other words, yes, we've been waiting for a long time, but when it does come out, it'll be the best work LDS can manage. I'd rather wait for that, than have them release something that's instantly 'behind the times' because it doesn't take advantage of what we know about FSX today.

Also, I agree 100% with those who say LDS doesn't owe any of us anything. No one's pre-ordered the 757 or made a deposit on it. And if LDS decides to do their work without offering us updates or screenshots, so be it. That's how they choose to do things.

Besides, Daryl has said many, many times: "The 757 is coming." Why should we not believe him? Because it's taken six years? Because there's been only one picture released in that time?

If those are the only reasons, well, I personally don't think they're very good ones.

I'm not here to argue. I didn't like the tone you brought to the thread. End of discussion, thanks!

So besides the 2D pics we have on the registered Flight1 forums and Facebook, were there any other "leaks"? I stopped following the threads years ago, but I still use the 767 even today.

Nah nothing other than "we're working on it" which is good enough for me. Either it will come or it won't. Not really worth getting worked up about. I still love the 767.
