Coolsky DC-9 Released!

Featured Replies

As far as I'm aware,

I'm the only one who worked on this aircraft in the forum.

I don't hide that fact either, especially as I have my Mcphat logo on.

My job is to do textures.

My Job isnt to say it's great, or incredible, or fantastic.

That's not my call,

that's why the forums are a good thing.

It's for you the consumers to decide that.

What I do try and do,

is tell you what I know, try and offer support where I can (Which is not a requirement as this is not my plane,

just have been around this model a bit longer than most).

I will tell you what we tried to achieve at our end of the show, namely the model and textures,

and answer any questions in general.

I and the other parties in development appreciate the time people have taken to write reviews, or thoughts on the matter,

especially those of an unbiased nature either way, positive and negative,

and also feed that back to the concerned parties.

The more you the consumer feed back, the more the all parties concerned can improve on what is and is not liked,

or could be improved.

So thank you all again,

and keep posting :)

Well okay when I think about it maybe I could list couple of more addons before this one (at least until some bugs are fixed), but definitely I would add this bird to top 10 just after PMDG birds, Leonardo Maddog and maybe QW 757 & Avro, just somehow this bird feels right to me.

Sounds like some people who worked on this plane are in the forums. Makes sense don't it?

I enjoy the aircraft thoroughly. I don't work for either involved company... I repeat: No ties to either party.

What makes sense is that most folks praising the a/c have stronger hardware and a love for old airliners like the DC-9. What is unfortunate is the gross over stating of the bugs present several days after release. This isn't a junk add-on. It's got "substance".

Do you want to go down the list of bug fixes for all the patches PMDG has released for their aircraft?

Precisely. Which was a point I made within the first several pages of the thread.

but it definitely is not something that I think I'll ever fly much unless the improvements are massive.

Like what? A few buggy textures at night, an --at times-- glitchy autopilot, and the odd CTD? I'm not seeing how this well represented classic airliner could be massively improved. Just my two cents. I'll be flying this bird for a while. That being said, I'd say I'm a pretty discriminate add-on purchaser.

If you did the textures, then I should take the opportunity to say that the virtual cockpit looks very good. I think there is much wrong with this plane, but the looks aren't one of them.

Yeah myself I can't find much wrong with this plane. Some graphical bugs and a bit heavy on FPS with VC, that's all. Systems very well modeled, flight dynamics feel very good and alive, especially to turbulence this bird seems to react more believable way than any other jetliner addon that I have flown. Also it seems to have some nice effects on takeoff, at first I thought that I had accidentally accufeel on when I took off.

Those graphical bugs don't seem like something minor to me, because if they happen they will end your flight. Hopefully they happen at the beginning and then you can just reload. When flying by hand, I agree that it feels ok, but I would expect it to, just as with any plane I buy. But what about the numbers? I'm not so sure that it can be flown by the tables that are included in the manual. Early results did not look so good at all, but I allow that I might be reading something wrong since the plane is still rather new to me. Will have to check again to say for certain. I actually care about things like that, hard as it is for some to believe!

And what about these effects you speak of? I have accufeel and ez and when I turn both off I don't see anything happening. Am I supposed to?

Just my 2cents:

have requested a refund. This plane has not the quality nor the system simulation of a pmdg product. The textures in the vc aren't as crysp as what to expect from McPhat. The Systems are simulated but not to a deep extend. The APU spools up, the EGT rises slowly but then the rpm goes up to 100% within 1second and the EGT lowers slowly.

Windsounds in the cockpit are much too silence. You even don't hear the packs (the left pack goes directly to the cockpit, so you'll hear a wind noise). Was flown much with a MD80 in germany and was working on one. The MD80, DC9 etc are the same aircraft. No hydraulical cable or air outflow valve inside a cockpit has been moved. And the MD80 is very noisy in the air (not as much as a 737 though).

There was no real feeling when flying this bird. That's more for a hobby pilot to fly instantly and takeoff just 2min after loading fsx ;)

Kind regards,

Stefan Sondermann

I wonder how it is to be other developers, and the second your product is released, no matter how different it is, or even if it is a freaking helicopter, it gets compared to PMDG, and they called crap if it doesn't meet or beat it.

I like it, but then again, I also don't base my purchases off others. That is why I love flight one. And yes...if you are running a lower end computer, then ya....this plane is not for you. I can get ~25-30 frames in ORBX area at KSEA in the VC with this bird....so it is pretty much just system specific, because every single person who purchased this plane does not have bad performance.

Well they seem to happen very rarely as long as I use this bird by first loading default Cessna and then this one, and even if they happen plane is still perfectly flyable using 2D panel.

And that accufeel kind of thing, well on takeoff for my first proper flight it felt like this addon had some vibrations and shaking included, but actually that takeoff was during some stormy weather around so maybe just that caused it.

And ok I haven't really looked at flying this bird by the tables, just my overall subjective feeling it was.

And I agree with gnomegemini about sounds being kind of bad, I bought TSS soundpack which made it much more enjoyable although still various system sounds are missing but that doesn't bother me that much.

Well, I hate to say it, but I've got pretty much everything re-installed now, and the frame rate is up - mid 30's for me. Which would imply the solution for those of you with frame rate issues would be (yuck) uninstall FSX and reinstall it, and that's a terrible bit of advice to give, but it certainly worked for me.

Hmmm. Well, I was hoping that wasn't going to be the case. Thanks for the effort doing this monumental task. I don't think I'll be doing that, because of time issues, but I am still determined to actually buy this aircraft. (I downloaded it, but have yet to have a couple of free hours to sit down, run, buy, etc.) Maybe this weekend.

Jet routes. VOR to VOR.

To be more precise, VOR, DME, and NDB. For instance, for KLAX to KLAS, you'll probably get the LOOP departure, which calls for a 250 heading to SMO VOR/DME R-160 at or below 3000, then left turn heading 235 for radar vectors to LAX VORTAC at or above 10000.

So, I'd set heading 250, tune VOR1 to SMO (110.80) and set its OBS to 160. Set VOR2 to LAX (113.60) as a backup. On take off, fly 250 until the the needle on VOR1 swings, then star the turn to heading 235.

Wondering why I can't get rid of the blurry textures in the VC, even after altering the fsx.cfg value TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 to under the [graphics] section. I've re-checked it after I closed the sim and it's still there so it hasn't been reset.

Am I missing something here, Is there anything else I need to do to sharpen up the textures?

Have you used nVidia inspector to configure your anisotropic filtering and MIP bias?

Have you used nVidia inspector to configure your anisotropic filtering and MIP bias?

Yup, I can't get any AA or AS to work without it. What does that mean? Should I restore some values to default?

vpa159.png

No, I was just going to suggest you use the inspector to configure these things, that is if you were not using it already
