Coolsky DC-9 Released!

Featured Replies

Well ZachLW, I would hope that some of those things get addressed in a patch, or patches, but who knows?. I too was a big fan of the DF 727, in FS9 btw. I ended up buying the CS 727 for Captain Sim when I went to FSX and was very dismayed. I consoled myself by thinking that the next patch, and each succesive patch after that would bring the changes I wanted, but unfortunately they never did. So I hope with this Coolsky plane they are more serious about fixing things.

Coolsky and Espen are fantastic in terms of support. Not even in the same universe as Captain Sim. While I have no interest in the plane just because it doesn't tickle my fancy, I've no doubt that Espen will continue to develop this plane far beyond a patch or two. It's a labor of live not just $$$$ like some other "developers."

Define fantastic.I see some people here using those big words "fantastic support, incredible panel" and I can never figure out if they mean "very good" " it does not get any better" or if it is the kind of asinine excessive praise that gets thrown about the forums by the (fan)boys.

I never had problems with CS support.Yet.I do know some folks had hard time with CS so I take it is a matter of opinion.

I'm not saying that the developer did not put lots of time and dedication into this project but I think "labor of love" has been abused and overused. Many developers call their product a "labor of love", tested by real world pilots ( washed by real world pilots?) and all that. You never know what it means anymore.

Someone said the bird doesn't have any INS or Doppler Nav System....did the real DC-9 have one? As far as I know, until later, only longer range airliners were outfitted with them, 707, 747-200 and DC-10's had it, 727-100 didn't, I am not sure about 737-200's but what about DC-9, arent they too much short haul for those toys?

What on earth are you on about? Asinine? Are you able to make a post that's not angry? Mine was pretty self explanatory if you couldn't follow it sorry. I'm not about to get into a debate about the perceived semantics of my post.

If you took the time to read what I wrote you'd see that my post is not "angry" and you'd also understand what I'm "on about".

Have you tried the DC-9 yourself yet?

Since we've both mentioned the NGX, I'll remind everyone that she, too, had her growing pains. The a/c was completely unusable for most users at launch

I will say that I agree with these statements... My NGX was unusable without my entire sim freezing after 15min in the air. Thankfully, it only took them a few weeks to resolve the issues.

This is why I don't buy anything besides scenery on release day regardless of who it's from. Saves a lot of headaches.

Just a few weeks ago, when the QW and JF B146 planes came out, there was a similar discussion regarding one plane vs another. I had first purchased the JF and, despite a few minor quirks( minor for me), I had a great time flying it---and still do. When the QW came out, there was a lot of praise for it.

Well, I went out and purchased it as well. Both planes are great planes, but I prefer the JF model simply because the Artificial Horizon gauge is large enough for me to see. The QW's AH, on the other hand, it's too small for me to fly with---so this plane sits in my hangar. These discussions will go on forever, given the fact that all of us have our ideas of what's right or wrong---not due to real piloting skill, but to virtual experience, which is complicated and very subjective.

PMDG is fortunate due to the fact that the president is a real world pilot who can assess many things about his products first hand, a very important criterion when it comes to airplane behavior. Other developers may not be so lucky, since they are reliant on other pilots' feel. Unfortunately, sometimes the "feel" or fidelity that we're all looking for gets lost in the translation. tc

You know you can click on it and get a pop up window then resize it and place it any where you!

I dont know how important that is, as one does not go about engineering "by feel". Its all math and numbers, and I would imagine that a simulation of an airplane would also follow these same rules. I know that the best mods for racesimulators are the ones where only accurate real life data was used, and not somebodys opinion or feel.

There are of course advantages of having a former professional pilot on the team, mostly in regards to having contacts in the industry, making it easier to get hold of real life data etc

I bought the aircraft and flying my first test flight - I will write a review with a lots of screenshots later. I will post that on the IVAO Forum .- if you tell me where I can post it on the Avsim Forums (i'm very new to them), I'll do that as well

Not to pick on you, but I would say that your comments are wildly inaccurate. Plugging numbers into Flight Sim will not give an accurate feel. There's a lot more to it than that, and PMDG have mastered the art of FSX workarounds to achieve accurate handling. Thanks in no small part to the large number of current 737NG pilots on their team.

At any rate, let's try and keep this thread on topic! I know I'm not helping.

Would some one care to explain how a flight , let say klax to klas is structured? most of us have not flown a steam gauge jet seriously.

For example in the pmdg its a 5minute FMC calculation and then hit toga and have a gin n tonic till top of descent. How about the DC9, what does a typical flight plan look like?
