I just add this as it might be of further interest.

Again, I am not trashing Android (or Apple!) I just don't think its good to turn a blind eye to the faults of either. If there are problems, the only way to ever get them fixed is to acknowledge them and get to work. Unfortunately, people with entrenched interests on both sides often don't want to hear anything except how perfect their own particular choice is.

Then there are the incompatabilities between the various accessorys, and finally the relative lack of applications compared to the cornucopia of the Apple store.

Funny you should mention incompatible accessories. I seem to recall that an iPhone's Bluetooth will only talk to another iPhone. Likewise Apple have ditched USB on their latest Macs and gone with their own proprietary connection for peripherals. They seem to like locking their products down to only work with other Apple devices. What about the latest Macbooks not having an optical drive? If you want one you have to buy their proprietary external optical drive, which funnily enough is a lot more expensive than a standard USB DVD external drive.

Best not mention the whole Flash thing either, eh?

Then of course there's the new connection on the iPhone 5 which will require users to have an adapter to make it work with their existing docks.

I also wouldn't describe the iTunes App Store as a "cornucopia". There's an awful lot of dross in there - just like the Google Play Store. However, just as you would expect the vast majority of the more popular and useful apps have made their way into both stores - which of course makes perfect commercial sense.

Then of course let's consider other manufacturers making Android based devices are already using hardware such as the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip which is considerably more powerful than the Apple A4/A5/A5X found in the various iPhones and iPads, and quite ironically manufactured by Samsung! The extra power is already being exploited by Android app programmers - just look at the 3D graphics some of the latest Android apps can run really smoothly on a Tegra 3 powered device.

Apple rocked the gadget world with the original iPhone and iPad, but since then they've failed to innovate and as time rolls on they are being overtaken by other manufacturers and are increasingly playing catch-up.

Don't get me wrong, Apple's stuff is pretty good. It certainly gets the job done with the minimum of fuss - IF you are prepared to buy into the whole Apple eco-system which can be pretty expensive. If, however, you are tech savvy and don't mind engaging the grey matter and doing some research and reading, you can find a cornucopia of alternative brands and products with equally good functionality and considerably lower prices.

The best example I can think of right now is laptops. Last year I got myself a new 15" MSI laptop with an i7 processor, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD and an Nvidia GTX460 graphics card. It cost me £1,300. The nearest Macbook spec I could find had the same size screen, same processor, same graphics card, same RAM, but a 512GB HDD and cost £2,100.

That's an £800 difference, or $1,300 for my American friends.

I read the other day that each iPhone 5 costs Apple $200 to manufacture in China, but they sell them in the US for $600.

Now tell me Apple aren't having a laugh.

Its best to keep in mind that this is not an Apple-only decision, but part of the current trend in Ultra-thin, Ultra-light notebooks. It joins similar offerings from HP, Sony and others that also offer no such drive. These companies are all responding, they believe to current usage trends where these devices are functioning almost like media oriented iPads. Its also as far as I know, only the retina machines that have the drives removed, so if that is a concern, there are other choices available...........

As for blutooth as far as I know all the most popular formats are supported, meaning HFP/HSP/AD2P/PAN/AVRCP and SPP

Mentioned that earlier in the thread.

Well, I don't like the fact that it uses a new form factor. On the gripping hand, change happens. If they have what they believe to be a superior option, why should they be locked into older tech?

Quite probably, but if you note in another article I posted, it seems that the sheer variety of targets is also turning off app developers, and it appears their interest in the android market might actually be shrinking.

Tech moves on!

Yet people still find Apples offerings worth their while. Obviously opinions differ.

Apple considers itself the boutique device maker. You pay more for a designer watch, but they both tell time just the same.....

Sometimes there are extra materials and workmanship to justify it, sometimes its all smoke and mirrors, but the consumer speaks the loudest, and they were sleeping in front of the stores. (I don't sleep in front of no stores!) :P

Now tell me Apple aren't having a laugh.

Well they are certainly the wall street darlings!

Well..............

Lets just say that before I opened my mouth, I looked for corroborating evidence...........

I knew you would

Interesting reading and some very valid points. Luckily, I have not encountered those issues (yet?). Maybe because my phone is used for work rather than entertainment - for that I have my Tab 10.1 (groan here I go again   ).

On a more serious note, you might find Apple having to overcome similar hurdles with new screen resolutions. Maybe this is why they were late to market with a larger screen? Regardless, I am sure that they will overcome those problems as will Android. Sadly nothing is perfect in this world.

Also with regards to Randy's comments - the only issue I have with Apple is that I feel that they take a lot of choice away from people with a closed ecosystem, and yes, I have read some of the "public" reasons why. Yes, they are beautifully made, but like everybody else, sadly, made with cheap labour. Such is today's corporate greed.

Now off to the pub for lunch on this beautiful Monday!

The original iphone hit the market with great fanfares etc and a great (huge) price to match. A huge marketing process to cover up the fact that other manufatureers were also in and on the same game at the same time. The difference was and still is that other manufacturers couldand can do the same thing for lessmoney. They are interested only in selling to the market whereas Apple were and still are trying to dictate the market. It's not possible to dictate or control the market when your technology is behind the market! The iphone style is old hat now. My vote goes to whoever can mass produce "flexible paper".

Also another thing to consider is that many people are now turning away from having to keep and run their entire lives on a single small pocket device and the total lack of privacy that goes with it.

Very true indeed. Apple's products are very well designed and are extremely easy and intuitive to use. That is perhaps one of their greatest selling points. However, the flip side of that is Apple seem to want to railroad everyone into doing everything their way. Every time I find myself tempted by an Apple product I always end up coming to the conclusion I can get a more versatile product cheaper somewhere else.

What you see in the video is the ipad landing in a desert region. What they didn't tell you in the video is that it took them months to find it because their iphone software told them it landed in the centre of Tokyo!!!!!
