Apples are healthier than Galaxy's.

There really is "no excuse" at all! A total mess and waste of time. One might make a suggestion to Appole that they check their software before release. But, umm Apple are too big for that!

Like I said earlier: they have stepped in it. The map change was not done for customer convenience it was done for internal corporate reasons and that almost never turns out well when your customers needs take second place. Microsoft learned that with the DRM'ed mess called Vista, and other companies have had to learn the lesson as well.

Now its Apples turn. One has to wonder if Mr Jobs would have been as tone-deaf as to try a dumb move like this with the product in its current state. But then, he wouldn't allow flash on the device and Apple weathered the storm fairly well. Its hard to say.

What is easy to say is that they are squandering a lot of stored-up goodwill for no discernible gain (except corporate maneuvering) at this point.

Sometimes a stumble is good to restore humility. It's all in how you react.

Randy Swofford

I agree with you Randy, but........

Humility (adjectival form: humble) is the quality of being modest and respectful. Humility, in various interpretations, is widely seen as a virtue in philosophical traditions being connected with notions of egolessness. That has never applied to Apple and would take a MASSIVE corporate change over a long period of time to do so. I suspect the same applies to most of today's most successful companies and market leaders.

The mistake that Apple made was taking the choice away from its customers and there are various theories on why that happened. Who knows, maybe Google put its licence fees up and that was seen as unacceptable (or even cost effective) by Apple. Maybe it was to do with the ongoing fight with Google? Decisions would have been made at the highest level and I guess we can only make assumptions in the meantime and wait for Tim Cooks bio.

The above post hits the nail as to why Apple now has such a small share of the market!

You don't take choice away from your customer. You don't dictate to the customer what they can and can't have. Nor do you choose your customer by physical trait i.e in this case being left handed!

I retired my 2 1/2 year old iPhone 3GS for a Galaxy S3 a couple of months ago. I'm finding the Galaxy to be a significantly better phone. In fact I'm loving it. Expandable memory and removeable battery are two massive advantages it has over the iPhone. Funny also that HTC and Samsung introduced larger screens on their flagship phones and Apple are now following.

What's more I also got myself a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. I bought the 16GB model for £299 and then put a £25 32GB Micro SD card in it. It does everything an iPad does, but comes in over £150 cheaper than a 32GB New iPad. After playing with the New iPad in the Apple store I remain thoroughly unconvinced the Retina display is worth an extra £150!

Apple gadgets have become as much a fashion accessory as anything else - and the price they command reflects that. The fact is you can get just as much, if not more functionality and features from other less chic brands for less money. What's more you can see with the likes of the New iPad and iPhone 5 Apple have reached something of a dead end. They've stopped innovating and are now perhaps reacting to the competition. It's going to cost them.

Take a look at the new Google Nexus - once they get the 10 inch model on the market it will absolutely wipe the floor with the New iPad in terms of performance/functionality/price.

Nick

The problem is that the android market has become fragmented. Incompatibility between the various flavors of operating system can make it uncertain if a particular app will work correctly with a given phone. Then there are the various plans from the various carriers (apple sets iPhone pricing and iPad plan costs)

Then there are the incompatabilities between the various accessorys, and finally the relative lack of applications compared to the cornucopia of the Apple store.

Not saying that Apple is the second coming, but they retain their following from a bit more than being chic.

It is very late on a Sundays night and you have let me down entirety. I have respected and given full consideration to your balanced posts throughout this whole thread and then you go and spoil it.

How you may ask?

You have obviously copied and pasted the bull#### that the apple forums are so well known for vomiting forth. Not one of your remarks holds any weight. Now try again :lol:

What did he copy and paste? I'm genuinely curious if this venomous attitude towards Apple? Android devices aren't for me but I don't begrudge anyone who like them. It seems bashing Apple has more to do with looking cool more than anything else.

I hope you are not implying that I have a venomous attitude towards Apple??? Where I come from we encourage open speech, differing opinions and debate. That tends to allow you to keep an open mind, hence my hint of humor in my reply and baiting to HiFlyer

The operating systems compete..... with each other.

There are also recent articles showing how Google may be attempting to corral the problem. One of those possabilities being to lock down the operating system..... just like Apple!

Or interim steps like this:

Note that the interim solution only indicates that your app will actually work on a given device, and does not address whether the app is actually usable on the device at that devices native screen resolution.
