REX Latitude

Featured Replies

I very much am interested in Latitude. I fly for one of the 'bush' charter services and my activities are almost exclusively confined to the PNW, NRM, CRM and Alaska territories. Most often, the typical flight ops involve staying below the WX and flying the contours of the terrain. As a result getting from point A to point B can be quite adventurous and circuitous. How will REX Latitude identify the legitimacy and appropriateness of my flight pattern, given that type of flying? Will REX Latitude be able to account for 'bush' flying operations with its attendant steep bank angles, descents, STOL activities, etc?

I think it looks fantastic and I'm excited about seeing some feedback on it from early purchasers.

If it seems stable and not bugged I'll almost certainly pick it up at the weekend.

Find it funny that people who say they like total freedom and don't like being assessed at all, come to this thread to tell people... ..... isn't that a bit pointless? ....... Clearly, Lattitude will appeal to people looking for a structure in their flight simming, some consequence. If you want total freedom, no consequence and just a casual relaxing fly around, then there's nothing wrong at all with that - but it's pretty obvious this one won't be for you!

I am curious about that too. From what I have read I get the idea that you have to fly as straight and smooth and gentle as possible: you get rewarded for taking off and landing at the calculated speeds, so the more you fly by the book, the better. So I wonder if your (and partially also mine) way of flying will help your career... ^_^

Latitude has just been released, of course, so it will take some time before the first 'reviews' start coming in.

Just bought, downloaded and installed without any issues. Now to go figure out how to properly use it :P.

Be sure to report back and let us know how you get on pilot!

I have been reading through the manual, and I must say that I like it. They do a very good job of explaining how the scoring works, how to master the different phases of the flight, and the economy aspect. This makes it much more believable, and since I actually get to know how the score was computed it is much easier to make sense of the results and figure out how to improve the score.

Just did a quick circuit, as that's all I have time for right now. Scoring system seems really nice and complete, though from the looks of it, it will also give you a penalty for wind shifts...while running REXE+ ... which seems kinda lame :P.

You should get EXTRA points for transporting everyone through heavy weather instead...! ^_^ Seriously, I read about this and it IS a bit odd that you get penalized for things you can't help...?

What I was thinking about: there is no direct relation to REXE+, is there? Latitude will work as well with OpusFSX for weather? Or do you lose a lot of functionality then?

Perhaps they want us to buy AS2012.

...yes it does seem strange that you'd be penalized for the effect of wind on the aircraft. Can't see the rationale in that (unless you're expected to have planned to only be flying in winds calm!).

Personally, I was not sure it would be for me. Im not one of those "cold and dark start on the apron" types who plan every minute detail of a flight. Im a small GA type scenery hound that flys to relax. With Latitude I can still fly how I always fly. It's just there to evaluate my ability as a pilot from take off roll to full stop. If I want the flight to earn money, I can jam it full of passengers and just enough fuel plus reserves find the best altitude and go. It's built like that. And finally I have an online flight log. I want it running now. Now Ill be paying more attention to my habits. Can't wait to get back in tonight and work on improving. Each flight counts towards something now. Becomming better. My wife's seriously going to hate this thing it's addictive.

Something I appreciate is that it only reports what you tell it too or more accurately you have to choose to upload the result after the debrief. I like that. That way if my weather generator screws me over while on approach, I can just choose not to upload it. Or maybe i get a new plane in the hangar. I'll feel like practicing first a little before I start recording and submitting. I have control.

But Its definately not something to run in the background if you are taking the Decathalon out for some deck scraping contour flights and practicing hammerheads and Cuban eights. But when I want to do a solid VFR or IFR flight and test my pilotage, I have a tool and it works well. When I grease that landing in my favorite bird, I can share it with my peers. I can see how the competitive types are going to love challenging their buddies with this thing.

Damn I feel like taking a sick day now. Lol.

The installer issue has been resolved and working now. Those that have purchased initially can re-download the installer and it will work.

The wind shifts are not a REX issue and I wish we would drop this. WE ALL know that this is an FSX issue and Latitude DOES compensate for this within FSX/P3D.

Winds are best handled by turning down the wind turbulence and shear, enabling wind smoothing in REX. Also turn off your wind turbulence effects within FSX. If using FSUIPC you will get added effects.

Can you assign Rex L to certain aircrafts, like transport, military, aerobatics? I mean if I fly the 737 I do it by the book, but aerobatics is a whole different game...is this only aimed at transport category?

Edit: the 2:d above post explains my questions pretty well, thanx!

Kind regards
