Hmm.

So is this an ADDON for REX Essential? Will they charge extra for it? Is it just the patched version of REX Essentials we've been waiting for over the last few months?

To be honest I've stopped using REX now. Bored of waiting 20minutes for it to download the weather!

something wrong with your isp??

mine loads in about 15secs

Absolutely great and detailed manual! Well done!

But I don't know if this is something for me though. It may only give me stress... I have a daytime job and don't like the idea of being watched and monitored and judged when I simply should be having fun during my free time. ^_^ When I look at the profiles you have to follow in order to get good scores I already get scared... My take off roll hardly ever is perfectly straight. I hardly ever descent in one straight line. I will have to PLAN almost everything or my scores will be low... Things like that. But... great manual... ^_^

Same here, I'm rather more interested in SimAir.

Descents don't have to be straight lines... you either do constant rate, or constant path (FMS directed or your choice).

If you don't care about how you get from A to B, then Latitude is not for you (I supposed that's like taking a walk in an MMORPG to just look at scenery:). But if you want to know how you're doing and achieve something, then it'll give you some rush when you're coming in to land.

I'm a 1300 hour real world pilot. I hardly every get anxious on real landings (unless it severe turbulence in a 25G30 crosswind). But, I still get a rush in windy conditions with Latitude. I may be biased, but without it, FSX feels empty. It's not about stress, it's about excitement.

I didn't say I wouldn't get it, period. ^_^ I am simply not certain if it's something for me. I own FSPassengers but haven't used it for years because it made flying repetetive: I had to do everything by the book and I felt somewhat restrained by it. Every mistake spoiled the fun for me... I think I may have the same with Latitude...

Apart from that I didn't like the interface in the game and the points you got and money you made seemed a bit random and unrelated to anything. I think that in that last regard Latitude will be more interesting because for a large part it IS about relating your results to others (or however you say that).

I also looked at AirHauler but you need a second life for that and you are forced to fly this plane or go there: I like my FREEDOM. And again, Latitude seems to have a better approach for that.

So... I am still on the fence and I will wait for some reviews. I AM interested however, otherwise I wouldn't have replied in this topic at all. ^_^

That's a fair assessment Jeroen ^_^

A fair assessment indeed! I would be a liar if I said pilots in my simming circle all loved to do flight planning, route planning or payload management. Some of them really couldn't care less. However, Latitude won't exclude them from flying and learning. They can plan/fly as they always have but now have the tools to help them become better pilots. Their plane choice and route do not matter. As John mentioned, Latitude doesn't care about your route, fuel or payload unless you want to participate in these aspects of Latitude. As an observer, Latitude will focus on how you got from point A to B.

If you do choose to participate on the Portal, even then, it's still not critical that you plan entirely or carefully. You may only care to compare scores or see what other pilots are doing. If you do want to fully participate but are new to planning, and don't want to lose a lot of virtual money, Latitude can also address that. You can plan a little, fly as you normally would, and only pay the expense of your fuel (Ferry Route). Or lastly, you can go full out with your planning to try an maximize your flight's earning potential. It's up to you how you utilize Latitude.

Latitude can be a lot of different things for a lot of different types of pilots. Big tin and GA bug smashers alike now have a tool that will allow them to fly and improve with as much involvement as they choose. It does not cater to one type of flying or plane class. In my case, I really wanted to know how I was flying and how I could improve from flight to flight. I got that information and I have improved substantially. However, by expanding my focus beyond just getting from point A to B in once piece, I have learned a lot of things about real world aviation practices that I wouldn't have otherwise considered. Latitude for me is about evolving as a pilot with the flexibility that matches the flying I like to do.

Hopefully the manual will give you some insight about what Latitude can do for you.

So, it's been released. Anyone purchased yet? What are the first impressions?

I must confess I'm quite surprised to see that the community doesn't appear to be paying much attention to this. I for one am very excited!

I read on the Rex forums and it seems a couple people having issues getting the installer to install the program. Waiting to see if they resolve this issue before I buy.

Rex programmers are working on it right now so no ideas yet.

I will probably wait until REX Simair gets released, it's apparently going to be more about simulating virtual airline instead of concentrating on just individual flying career. I hope Latitude and Simair can be kind of merged somehow, so I could at the same time manage my own virtual airline using Simair and also fly for it using Latitude stuff.

I have purchased and downloaded it, but I'm at work, so there is no testing it before tonight :(
