Why WXR important

Featured Replies

Guys to be honest, if PMDG decided to create one it'll more than likely be in the 777 already. If not then it won't be. I don't see a topic changing it unfortunately :-(

Flying through a storm instead of around it certainly isn't more realistic than having a not-perfect radar. At least with radar we can simulate diverting for weather instead of flying the planned route 100% of the time.

That's why I use the active sky map, better than nothing and with that I was able to go around a few storms in the past.

This? Again? Really?

What I was just thinking. Never fails. We have a period that it's like "Yes, finally the WXR threads are over" but then, well, here we are again.

Just ignore the thread if it bothers you that much, that's why I don't read a good chunk of them and that keeps the blood pressure down lol.

Am I the only one that doesn't fear weather at all in FS? I don't worry about icing, visibility, contaminated runways, etc etc. FS weather is so mild I can fly my cessna through a super-cell just fine.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

PMDG should include weather radar in all products from the B777 onward. There are a lot of things that can't be properly/correctly simulated in FSX, yet they are included to some degree by PMDG in their aircraft. As far as I am concerned, the non-inclusion of weather radar leaves a gaping hole in each PMDG product. Just my two cents...

I am hoping the weather radar will come in the new PMDG airbus currently being developed

I've heared it'll be in their Wood Pigeon too...

I heard that's releasing soon ;-)

I might have completely the wrong end of the stick here but, to my understanding, third party weather (e.g. Acive Sky) injects the weather itself hence avoids the problems of FSX weather radar (Active Sky even has its own WXR). So would it be possible for PMDG to do a WXR (fully integrated into the ND etc) for third party weather users? Yes, users of default weather wouldn't be able to use it (at least not with 100% accuracy) but I'm guessing most people here use third party weather anyway.

As I said, perhaps I have completely misunderstood the problems with WXR and this is complete giberish. Hopefully not.

Will, even thrid party weather addons have to inject weather by fitting METARs to stations inside FSX. At least that's what I beleave they do.

So it would be possible to read out the weather radar of those programms (at least theoreticly) and then include them into the ND. I may be wrong though.

In this theory I did not include any legal problems of this behaviour, BTW. I'm really sure that it would not be legal to do so.

Kyle,

i understand that it has been talked for a long time, but that's the first time that i noticed the need of the Radar, thanks cheers everyone!

OK, to clarify a little bit whats the problem with weather on FSX.

First: Radars don't tell you where the clouds are but where the rain is. Here already have a problem cause in FSX there is no rain. Is just an effect For example if you have AS to update weather every 30 minutes and the first download says that is raining you will have rain for 30 minutes until the next update, regardless if you are in the same spot or 300 miles away from the station that said that is raining.

Second: and the result of the first one you can't tell (or FSX can't tell) where the rain is with a METAR. It just says if there is rain or not. Here we have another problem.

And last but not least the turbulence inside FSX it won't bring your plane down even if its set to an unreal high amount.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Don't forget to slow down! lol.

Was recently on a helicopter flight (Real) where we got surrounded by red on the WXR after weaving between the dense stuff,

, getting thrown up 300 feet (not down), strong gusts,

visibility went from some, to none, as in the pilots dropped from 3000 feet to 300 so we could see the coast line, they slowed from 135 knots to 80 knots,

Sheet lightning in all directions, lost GPS 3 times, final decision on losing sight of the ground altogether,

straight line to ADF station, and crawl through.

5 minutes later, punched through into open skies, back up to altitude and speed.
