November 5, 201213 yr Well soon enough anyone watching aviation videos will learn that any video with FSX written on title isn't about real aviation and skips these videos. Youtube is the right place for simmer videos just like for almost all other kinds of videos. I agree with others, your videos are nice but they could be way more interesting with more different view angles. Just having FSX in the title won't save you! There are a lot of THICK people that surf on Youtube - I mean just take a look at some of the rubbish they upload! Better to make your channel private and then post links into forums where people care about the hobby rather than in a public forum where you are forced to deal with I.Q's ranging from 0-75! Good luck - I enjoy a lot of these videos - I understand the work that goes into creating one ( I have tried in the past and it involves a lot of work to get it as well done as you have done) But honestly, I have tried asking opinions of people that are not into our hobby, and at best, they think we are completely mad! (I suppose it takes a certain type of person to appreciate that what you are doing is virtually flying a real aircraft and not some plonker playing a game - If I have FSX running when my 12 year old comes home from school - he takes one look laughs at me - just before he switches on his PS3 and Battlefield - and says "See you are playing SHITESIMULATOR AGAIN DAD - YOU SAD GIT" - so we are obviously a marginalised community! It is a standing joke in our house that if he wants to bring his mates around to play on the PS3 I always make sure I threaten him that I will drag them all off to watch me take off from Luton airport in a 737.............you can hear them crying!
November 5, 201213 yr How are you 'filming' it? I have just watched the SWA landing and then spent 5 minutes cleaning my screen only to realise the marks are on the video. :LMAO: William Hall

November 5, 201213 yr Good effort Jerad! And good on you for wanting to be a future pilot. Ignore the haters on Youtube. For a lazy mind it's easier to spend a few seconds on a negative comment that to spend a few hours crafting a video. If you are seriously seeking constructive criticism.... I would say you need to think "cinematically". Tell a story through your cameras. Make a script in your mind. Early AM Burbank airport. WS from tower view of Southwest 737 sitting on tarmac. Much ground activity (fuel trucks, baggage carts) Hi angle MS of 737 nose to cockpit "Southwest 234 taxi into position and hold runway 33" Exterior WS of 737 pushback from gate Pilot POV of tug pulling clear of aircraft CU of throttle quadrant as throttles advance slowly MCU of turbine blades spinning in engine nacelle CU of engine rpm gauge as revs increase Pilot wide POV of taxiway ahead LH wide exterior view of 737 lining up on runway "Southwest 234, Rwy 33 cleared to takeoff " CU throttle quadrant as throttles advance slowly low angle shot of flocks of birds as they take flight in response to throttles. Aircraft is visible out of focus in background MS instrument panel as all gauges advance CU main landing wheels as they start to roll slowly Pilot POV out windscreen as speed picks up CU airspeed tape as it approaches V1 Cabin WS as passengers anticipate takeoff CU landing gear as it leaves the runway overlap cut Tower View as aircraft rotates MS passenger cabin Low angle 3/4 shot of main gear retracting WS of cockpit all looks well shots of flocks of birds again quick shot of engine nacelle again Pilot POV "What the hell was that?" MCU of engine instruments; starboard engine 100%, port engine completely haywire WS exterior, aircraft yaws severely and wing drops Pilot POV of smoking engine, "Burbank tower Southwest 234 declaring an emergency" OK you get the idea. Make up a story and tell it through your cameras or views as they are called in FSX. Use Flight Recorder to record the scenario of your flight in its entirety. Replay the flight in snippets. Use FRAPS or whatever to save your cuts or clips. Just run the sections you need for the cuts. Always record the initial clips a little longer than what you think you need. You can tighten them up for pace later after they are assembled. Don't forget the audio is an important part of the story. One other little suggestion. Stay away from the "effects" included in your video editing program. Bake the cake before you put on the icing. Get the meat of your film done and you can always add effects later. Probably more than you wanted to hear but I hope this helps. Obie
November 5, 201213 yr There are two things that consistently ruin FSX videos. Number one is the music. I would much rather have aiplane noises and cockpit chatter, with maybe some low leve music to break it up a little, second pet peeve is wing view, it really gets boring wathching a wing, you should switch views a little, If you get bored watching it than so will everyone else. Is that what you where after
November 5, 201213 yr Watching your vid, here's what I wanted to be seeing: 1. Views of the entire aircraft (external). If you've never seen a Mustang, then you don't know what the heck the vid is all about. 2. Some shots through the windscreen .. show your audience what the pilot is seeing. Context is important. 3. If the panel is decent, then some shots of instruments showing speed and altitude decreasing. 4. A shot of the landing gear extending (if it has retractable gear) 5. Maybe some captions with weather conditions, target runway, type of approach you're doing, etc. Keep working at it! - Jev McKee, AVSIM member since 2006. November 5, 201213 yr Besides the static camera thing other users already pointed you, many people/simmers don't like edited videos, that may be a reason why are you getting so many dislikes.
November 6, 201213 yr Lets be honest, unless you are flight simmer fan, it is hardly surprising that anyone watching a video of someone flying a "pretend" aircraft and making a video about it is sure to get negative responses. Youtube is not the place for simmer videos is it? I mean, if you were to go onto Youtube and search out some video clips that you wanted to watch about something like a Ford AC Cobra and how it handles, and you ended up watching some 14 year old running an upload of him tearing around Liberty City using Grand Theft Auto - you too would be a little disappointed no? Actually Youtube is a very popular site for simmer videos, just do a search of FSX and you'll see. I myself have 169 videos uploaded and generally do ok. They are by no means viral videos, but I get a fair amount of of people who like them, and that's all that matters to me. I have 1512 subscribers, and a relatively high like/dislike ratio. (Currently 3162 likes to 409 dislikes). To me there are generally 4 types of simmer videos. 1. Is a single view video, Either with Game sound , music or alternate (Type of video of the OP) 2. Multi view video, Either with Game sound , music or alternate (Type of most of my videos) 3. Full production videos with professional level special effects. 4 Narrated videos. I would say the full production videos have the highest level of support, followed by the Narrated ones, then multi-view, and last single view. Since I now qualify to have videos of greater than 15 min on youtube, I tried as an experiment doing full flights, fully thinking they wouldn't be popular, to my surprise, they seem to do quite well also. One of my most popular is my first one which was a tribute video of the retirement of the 757 from British Airways fleet. (You can see it on my channel) It has 141,753 views, with 351 likes to only 22 dislikes. There are other even more popular FSX video youtubers, like Cessna154, or Jon5700. So I would hardly say Youtube is not a popular site for simming. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

So I would hardly say Youtube is not a popular site for simming. You answered the question "DO A SEARCH FOR FSX" I think what the problem is here is that people are not searching for FSX and are coming upon what they may believe is a real video of a real plane! If you are not into Flight Sims then it could be like doing a search for "Large Dogs" and ending up with a Scoobye Doo cartoon! Glad to hear your posts are popular, I don't doubt it and I myself have found some excellent Youtube videos of Sims - what I meant was, for say every ten people that come upon a sim video, maybe 60% come across it by accident by following the suggested links on the right hand side - and most of these people are not intentionally looking for videos of people flying "pretend" aeroplanes! The reason you probably have good hits and a good response is maybe due to the fact that you clearly label your videos as to what they are - If I want to see FSX videos, I make sure I type FSX in the search. I don't type in Boeing 747 and then expect to get 100 hits on someone flying a computer generated toy! I would be looking for things related to a 747 - and not someone simming a 12 hour flight across the Atlantic in neverland. However, should I type in "FSX - Boeing 747 -" then I would expect the results to be a little different and if I was subjected to a 15 hour video viewed from the wing of a CGI aeroplane, then that is entirely my fault. There are two things that consistently ruin FSX videos. Number one is the music. I would much rather have aiplane noises and cockpit chatter, with maybe some low leve music to break it up a little, second pet peeve is wing view, it really gets boring watching a wing, you should switch views a little, If you get bored watching it than so will everyone else. Is that what you where after Yes, again another good reason - we all might be into Flight Sims, but not everyone has the same taste in music - just leave the aircraft noise! There is nothing worse than sitting through 15 minutes of Enya while trying to watch what is going on in the video - believe me - I hit the END button (and those damn Beat Box soundtracks really don't get me playing a video for more than 2 seconds)!
November 7, 201213 yr I think calling it "The FSX Show" gives the impression its a show, about FSX, when in fact so far, its just short vids of a simulated wing... The title makes it sound like something informative, knowledge sharing as such, only to find its just some nicely edited vids of something fairly boring... (No offence) Even a fellow simmer can find 3 or 4 minute vids of a wing pretty boring, and nothing happens.. Some scenery goes by, and the plane lands, fairly predictable... Look at "frooglesim"s vids... informative, whislt showing you whats going on... I watched 1 and subscribed instantly... Also "FSXpilot767" his vids are great, I subscribed to those too and watch them several times over.. Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
