Plane refuses to slowdown on approach

Featured Replies

im really getting aggravated lol i just cant seem to slow the planes down when approaching the airport in preparation for landing i set the speed through fs nav for approach the fd control is off but a/t is on cause fsnav controls it its even set to 160 but plane refuses to slowdown it continues to speed between 280 and 300 knots

It aggravates me cause i just joined a couple of virtual airlines but because of this problem i can never properly file a report 2-3hrs of flying and on final approach this happens grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr lol

im not to familiar with programing the FMC maybee that will help im not sure if anyone can point me into the right direction as to findin a guide like (FMC for Super dummies) cause i need it bad lol

Seems like im not the only one http://talk.pafs.wf/...?t=1569&p=17338

What airplane are we even talking about here. If it's a 757, those things aren't easy to slow down in the first place, so you may need to pop on some speed brakes to slow down.

...try reducing your descent rate and begin your descent earlier... Calculate it for -2500fpm for FL400 until FL100 then reduce it more to about -1000ft. Extending the speedbrakes and the landing gear helps as well

If you are flying a big jet with a functional FMC, I recommend learning to use the FMC. When you understand how the FMC works, and you learn to fly using proper aviation routes for example, then you learn at which waypoints you need to be at a specific altitude or specific speed. When you learn the FMC then you can use VNAV and LNAV with your autopilot to better handle your approach.

You will reach a part of the flight where you reach TOD and need to start your descent. This gives you ample time to slow your plane down by using flaps 1 for example and if need be using your spoilers "/" to reduce your speed.

Don't leave it to the last minute where you see the airport ahead of you to begin slowing down....by that time it may be too late.

Hi.

I guess the easiest solution is to decelerate well before you reach TOD and use brakes during the descent. You might benefit from setting up a practice flight in the air and a couple of hundred miles from your destination. Then you can experiment to see where you need to start decelerating. You can also use that flight to tweak your preferred vertical speed through the descent.

Tried everything but refuses to slow down the airplane is the Wilco 320 Evolution1 just tried it with Sims Skies Overland 320 and evrything works great must be the wilco plane not sure.... I was trying to get it to decend to 160 on approach i chechekd The Speed Hold that was off i checked the FS switck also off i even shut the A/P off all together and it continued at 320knts.

on the sims sky when i reduce the speed with the auto pilot it falls right ajust's fine

Talk about learning to run before you can walk...

I do understand that the Wilcobus may have its issues, but...

You need to understand the principles of energy... Many modern commercial planes cannot descend and slow down simultaneously. The descents need to be planned accordingly. Wind speed and direction particularly can seriously hamper your ability to slow down. Do you understand the principles of using a flight management and guidance system as it is available in the Wilco Airbus? There are various modes of descent in Airbus systems, managed and open for example. You need to understand how each one works in the Wilcobus... Constant use of speedbrake on descent indicates bad planning in general, as you have not taken something critical into account.

Funny thing i can land all other Wilco's just fine ive set my flaps and headed to my assigned runway and about 76Nm miles i tried slowing down without decent and it refused to slow down. Although yes what you are saying makes alot of sense and most definitely agree since i dont know how to manage the FMC just yet all that well.

But the fact that i set the cruise to a lower speed and it dint slowdown im thinking today it was just the plane.

Hi.

When you disengage the speed hold I assume you also retard the throttles. Do the gauges show that the engines are all at flight-idle or are they still stuck at their cruise values? What does the engine sound do-- can you hear things winding down or is there no change?

Cheers,

D

First off I would suggest getting the original Feelthere (Wilco) Airbus package and not the hack job Evolution effort but that's coming from a beta tester of the original effort. The Evolution package has special issues but I've adjusted the strength of the speed brakes to help slow the planes down in flight. When I get to my computer I can give you the setting I use.

Go into your aircraft's .air file in the root of the aircraft's folder. You'll need a program called 'AirEd' located on this and other FS downloadable sites. Once in the file find the folder '1101 Primary Aerodynamics'. Look for '*CD_ds Drag Coefficiant - Spoiler=', I have mine set to 387. This should solve your problem with slowing the aircraft when you need to.

i set the speed through fs nav for approach

That right there is your problem. I suggest you learn to hand-fly your aircraft before you use automation, and using ANY external program to try and control an aircraft, PARTICULARLY an add-on aircraft, is almost doomed before you start (as you are finding out).

I'm sure the Wilco aircraft has an in-built AT system, so learn how to use that. You will get more fun and enjoyment by learning to fly your aircraft than you will just using a 3rd-party add-on to control another 3rd party add-on.

Best regards,

Robin.

I have had a problem with the Wilco Evolution Airbus series too. And I am a very experienced simmer and real world flyer. I think the Wilco product is disgusting.
