November 21, 201213 yr If the bloody media stopped banging on about how bad things are all the time then maybe, just maybe, people will start to feel more confident. At the end of the day, businesses are not going to invest and people are not going to spend when there is always this dark cloud of gloom rammed down our throats every minute of the day  Spot on Howard - Freedom of the press is one thing, but giving a massive platform for these London, Journalist wideboys to keep pumping us all full of negativity is pretty bad. November 21, 201213 yr Of course, the airlines are doing well - people can't get out of the country fast enough... Their are a lot of Irish and German youth with one year holiday Visa's in New Zealand because better experience life on the road and working abroad for a few years then to wait out the recession. A lot of them get the one year New Zealand Holiday Visa, then move onto Australia for a year, then Canada, you can spend a few years doing this. I would recommend it to anyone young looking for adventure. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
November 21, 201213 yr You forgot to mention to most savage budget in the history of the state just a couple of weeks away. Oh pish-posh, the budget is over-rated by everyone from the media to the people on the street, the reality is that December 5th will come and go, there'll be a few weeks of people complaining about this and that, and following that we'll just get back to life as normal. There's not going to be anything drastic or unexpected in the budget, we've known it was coming for the past 2-3 years. You can't keep spending more than you take in without trying to close the gap, that's just common sense. Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
November 21, 201213 yr Well one of the most accurate forcasters of enconomics around is predicting 2013 will be OK. Full article here: http://www.businessinsider.com/bill-mcbride-of-calculated-risk-2012-11 Mark CYYZ

In Australia coal and iron ore prices have dropped back to more normal levels, but new mining and carbon taxes may play a part in trimming of business, just like Obamacare is adding to business costs in the US. I premise that on Obamacare is actually going to increase business costs? Also I haven't said anything remotely political in this post. Just business commentary. Spot on Howard - Freedom of the press is one thing, but giving a massive platform for these London, Journalist wideboys to keep pumping us all full of negativity is pretty bad. Best to just keep away from it all. I agree with avoiding the negativity and is the reason I avoid watching TV news. But isn't it pertinent to understand that the build up of debt in Europe and the US is causing some kind of effect on the economy?
November 21, 201213 yr "I agree with avoiding the negativity and is the reason I avoid watching TV news." Agreed and exactly why I come to AVSIM and fly flight sim as much as possible... Sure don't want to see this kind of commentary (stuff) becoming normal practice... Go to a political blog if you must post this type of opinion or thoughts... just not here please.... And yes, I know, I can just not read this post.... So i won't - I am done.... There is no where to hide... Jeff NorthLink VA - Commerce & Community in Northern North America!
November 21, 201213 yr This is Hangar Chat not stick your head in the sand chat. It's not political, covers the international spectrum for points of view, is respectful, insightful and interesting. I fail to see why it should be else where? Randy Swofford

You can't keep spending more than you take in without trying to close the gap, that's just common sense. I sincerely hope you're right, but I'm hearing estimates of average families being hit to the tune of €3000+ per year. On my family's income, that represents a bit more than just "this and that". You may be in a happier position and if so, good luck to you. I'm well aware of the fundamental economic rule you cite, thanks, but I also know that you don't grow an economy by attacking people's disposable income, No-one has yet managed to tax their way out of a recession. The lessons of Ireland in the '80s have been forgotten in favour of the demands of the austerity fetishists - which the IMF now admits were wrong. Nevertheless, as you say, there is always the hype factor. For the papers it makes good copy, and for the government it sets the population up to actually breathe a sigh of relief in response to a tough budget. Enda's renowned pusillanimity may also be a factor in this regard. We'll see. H Their are a lot of Irish and German youth with one year holiday Visa's in New Zealand because better experience life on the road and working abroad for a few years then to wait out the recession. I would recommend it to anyone young looking for adventure. That's true of course and will always be the case, but there are also plenty of families uprooting and moving abroad (to whom my advice would be "don't come back, ever, no matter how good it might seem") also because there is simply no future here for them. Our government, naturally, prefers the story of the type of emigrant you refer to. H
November 21, 201213 yr All I'll say is this. Never has it been more important to fine tune my finances ( business and personal), provide a good service, provide good customer service/respect and most of all avoid negativity. That's why I now spend my spare time on forums ( fora???) such as this. Many of the political and media websites/forums are full of spite, hatred and gloom. I have recently decided to take the news once per day in headline format simply to keep abreast of things and avoid making comments on news/media/political websites. Actually, the only thing worrying me now is the fact that I planted a line of trees today that are only partially staked and there is a storm blowing outside my window strong enough to blow the whole lot down. November 22, 201213 yr These are the times I am glad I work for myself in a industry producing food. Always teasing me! Finally went to my first cattle sale. Unfortunately I didn't drop any money. Chris Miller

November 22, 201213 yr Only sales I go to are bulls. They're getting to be insanely expensive. Yes they are. Not as bad up here as they are down there but I will hopefully start up the heard by the end of next year if everything goes right. Chris Miller
November 22, 201213 yr Right on good luck!! We're going on 103 years here. Trying to keep it going. Randy Swofford
November 22, 201213 yr Yes they are. Not as bad up here as they are down there but I will hopefully start up the heard by the end of next year if everything goes right. I would do the same if I had the land. More likely sheep though. Right now we have enough land for a couple of pigs or chickens but we move into the new place in December. I'll have to plan it out when we move in. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
