Revisit the Coolsky DC9?

Featured Replies

I'm in the same boat as Bruce, having marked that Coolsky DC-9 one of the most interesting releases since I love the old steam gauge planes and really like what I read about the details plus failure sim. However, same as the OP, something always held me back.

While I don't have the time to start and test on some new plane right now, she's very high on my list. I'm a bit between the stools as I still recall some severe fps impact and the need to e.g. run that 4096 setting to avoid a blurry overhead and things.

Are those items still valid or am I talking about things of the past? Are oom problems attached to her? I have two planes in my hangar which come with those, means lowering FSX to settings I don't really like.

I only fly cargo (Hoping for a Coolsky DC9 freighter) so that's why I never paid much attention to FS2Crew.

Can you remove the voice control and interaction with the flight attendants?

Hi

Yeah. Well you don't have to interact with the FA if you don't want too. If you don't want to hear her/him there's an option to mute them.

For the PMDG 747F and MD11F FS2Crew recognizes they're freighters

and makes adjustments for that. No FA calls different procedures etc. (I believe only the Voice commander version for the 747 does it, as well as the regular MD11 FS2Crew version)

For the other versions you can just mute the FA sound.

Cheers

In the last beta patch a Low Resolution VC model is included, very good on fps :Applause: much much better then PMDG NGX, so you can run it at 1024 setting, not much noticeable difference in VC IMHO, removed oxygen masks, circut brakers panels(still in 2d) etc....

As for the artefacts in the VC....some people got them some don't...oom isn't a big problem AFIK...Espen & the team has realised 4 patches & is working very hard with a test team to resolve the artefacts(triangles & squares) in the VC that is the main problem for some users. Beta patch 5 is on it's way. If you want to bee on the safe side, wait for SP1 hopefully all will be resolved by then.

Kind regards
R.G

Thanks for the information on the issues or not issues, Robert. I think you are right, SP1 may be a good starting point.

I don't understand the post above that suggested it was too complex to fly. With a couple of mouse clicks you can automatically configure it for any phase of flight as well as set all the EPR and speed bugs. This is a superb feature if you don't have a lot of time for your flight and haven't memorized all the operating procedures. But if you prefer to push all the buttons, the systems are modeled in impressive depth.

I have applied all of the beta patches and they contain many fixes. Pretty much every thing works -- not a statement you can make all that often in this hobby. The developer seems very committed to fixing every reported bug.

The aircraft is still plagued by graphics corruption in the VC. They are still working on this and beta patch 4 almost completely eliminated the problem for me. Some users are affected by this and others not. I can't imagine that any of the patches could have made the problem worse and that was certainly not my experience. The corruption is very random in when it strikes and I would be wary of any cause and effect reports based on just one or two flights. The only consistent cause I have seen it that it's more likely to happen the more you increase the load on the computer with high end scenery and heavy weather.

I didn't personally care for the sound all that much and I bought the TSS sound pack, which I really like. The VC is well modelled (probably overdone in fact, which is the probable source of the graphics corruption) and the flight deck has lots of atmosphere. I think the exterior model could be better, but that may be a matter of taste, and certainly there are plenty of screenshots and videos available to show what it looks like.

Anyhow, the seller has a refund policy, so it seems there is no reason not to try it if you are interested.

Not my thread but thanks everyone who purchased this - for the feedback - personally still on the fence - will wait for SP1

Goes for me as well. Much appreciated.

I assume the beta patches are not incorporated into the Flight one file, but the SP1 will be? Thanks for all the great feedback, good to see that others are getting answers too.

Much appreciated, Bruce.

I'd look at MCE but the voices are still to computer like for me, even with the sound packs. Maybe there's a way they can take real human voices someday.

Cheers

Lee

A lot of people who may have tried out MCE back in 2009 still think we only use robotic voices.

This isn't the case since 2011. We now have 5 high quality FO recorded voice sets (with a sixth coming in 2013). And trust me because these voices have to cater for various usage scenarios, they are massive (4600+ recordings each).

We don't like repetitive stuff, so you won't hear the same recording over and over for the same request.

Buying higher quality TTS voices is no longer necessary.

The voice packs are so big that we don't include them all in the main package (which is already a 500 MB download). They are separate free downloads.

Back on topic...

For those who are eager to fly the nice classic CoolSky DC-9 in a multi crew environment, I am pleased to report we have already started interfacing this bird. It will be complete voice control on a par with what we did with the NGX.

Regards,

Woohoo! That is great news!!

The nav sim is very good, it's done for people like you who wants to learn radio navigation...very intuitive & easy:)

Just found out that Froogle Pete has done an three part video series in-depth review of the DC-9 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=83uUUfC0KYM will watch them now. Check out his channel.

Kind regards
