December 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member You can also select VATSIM or IVAO as your primary source of METAR data. Beta 2.60.10 posted with improved SAT control from the ground up, well up to FL440. Regards Stephen :-)
December 4, 201213 yr Ryan, Why don't you use AS2012 for the flight planning and texture loading and then shut it down and fire up Opus? That's what I am going to do. Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2 Eric
December 4, 201213 yr smoother camera transitions akin to ECZA OpusFSX already has smooth transitions...?
December 4, 201213 yr One question for users or the dev, do you start opus before or after fsx is started? Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Eric
December 4, 201213 yr I've got two questions before I buy: 1) Is FSUIPC registered required? 2) What does the weather look like with OVC002 (so that's 200 foot ceilings) and 10SM (vis like you'd see on an atis)? Most programs suck with this combination. Can someone post a screenshot? Ryan put it this way.. I was driving near my home airport the other day KSFZ and we had really really low clouds and fog. So I loaded up opus when I got home and I could not even land, I had to divert to PVD and land with the ILS because I could not see ANYTHING and I even went way below the approach minimums and still couldn't see anything Mike Avallone [email protected],Corsair H115i cooler,ASUS 2080TI,GSkill 32GB pc3600 ram, 2 WD black NVME ssd drives, ASUS maximus hero MB
December 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member You do not need a registered copy of FSUIPC4, but if you are using the CPFlight MCP/EFIS panel hardware for the any of the standard FSX aircraft then we recommend you register, its only fair because we interface to the sim via FSUIPC4. Other than that FSUIPC4 is hardly used. Regarding low overcast, here's a youtube illustrating low minimums ... http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=0aInvjCT-H0&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D0aInvjCT-H0&gl=GB Also check out our Flight1 Screenshot sub-forum posts. Regards Stephen One question for users or the dev, do you start opus before or after fsx is started? This question is more suited to our own support forum but to answer I would recommend starting FSX first but it doesn't really matter. Cheryl
December 4, 201213 yr Ok - I've been following the praise for this addon for quite a while and curiosity is getting the better of me despite being pretty happy with the AS2012/REX combo - questions first before I buy it: 3. Does their method of producing true overcast result in an FPS drop vs. the psuedo-overcasts you can still sort of see through in other addons? I've seen other true overcasts that work by just loading up a ton of different cloud layers and it kills performance, especially with the higher FSAA modes on. 4. How does it handle using graphics from REX and AS2012? Are there any limitations whereby things don't look completely right unless you use default clouds, skies etc? Well Ryan have seen them all used them all but regarding depiction and FPS this one is the best by far as for the other stuff they work very hard on it great support... For me is as in real life IMC conditions also very important and I found with OpusFSX the first one that comes close. As for planning software waiting myself for PFPX currently using VROUTE which check and validate (courtesy of EuroFPL) the route :-) I like also the lean and mean GUI and memory footprint not to much options, all the other programs made the mistake to included all those options and huge memory hungry footprint. Wind shifts is still a problem in the current version (2.60.9) but they are working on it. As for textures using myself only two sets most of the cloud sets gives to much open spots in the OVC (a lot are just designed wrong look pretty but don't work well in FSX) So hoping that OpusFSX won't make that mistake of including to much variables for the users and certainly not a flight planner. Parked also EZDOK using the opus camera system too :-) Just love this great program. One question for users or the dev, do you start opus before or after fsx is started? December 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member Don't forget to check out the excellent FEX clouds, I use Soft Naturals, but many use Nick's Dense Naturals, and don't worry we are still strictly operating on the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle, after all nearly all the options are related to overcoming shortcomings in FSX, you do not need many options to specify real world weather, just say where you want to get it from that's all. Regards Stephen
December 4, 201213 yr I bought the dang thing anyway (peer pressure!) With my 10 mins of use I can tell by far best IMC Wx program out there. I found a few niggles... like I've noticed the program doesn't know how to handle VV001 (ceiling indefinite - basically a layer of fog from the ground up) - unless this is the mist layer I've disabled in the config... But it made me nervous flying approaches to precision minimums. For now I've disabled the camera view - all I want is the Wx. Ryan I had the same but try the camera system it's great and less loss of FPS :-) André
December 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi All FSX cannot handle vertical visibility at all, hence we rely on horizontal visibility restrictions and condition statements. Hence VVs become redundant, since any ground fog or mist should always be reported in a METAR, the VVs just really say the cloud base is unknown due to restricted vertical vis. So the vis restriction must be specified, which of course it would. Regards Stephen
December 4, 201213 yr So hoping that OpusFSX won't make that mistake of including to much variables for the users and certainly not a flight planner. Why not just to offload it on the client? Dirk.
December 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi Dirk The Live Weather Assistant will do exactly that, that's the main reason for implementing a client side option for the LWE, since the LWE has no impact on the FSX performance when run on the main system. Regards Stephen

Regards Stephen Sounds great, good luck. Thanks, Dirk. PS: Have yet to force myself switch from EZDOK to Opus (intimidating for all the EZDOK view sets I've created for my fleet. Anyway I think I'll wait for the TIR limits implemented in OpusFSX first).
December 4, 201213 yr Well this thread pulled my credit Card right out of my wallet! Thanks Mike T.!!! LOL I own every FSX weather add on known to man and have for many years now. I purchased, installed and ran through the quick start in maybe 5min. Started FSx and OPUS and thought well that looks pretty good. I live about a mile from KPNS and so I headed outside for a look at the sky. All I can say is WOW! We have a couple of layers of Broken clouds with just a few patches of blue here and there. The depicted Wx in FSX is like a photo of the sky outside right now. These guys have done a wonderful job!! I think Mother nature may use this progrom to create our real weather!!! or pershalps Cheryl is the real Mother Nature trying to make a few extra bucks during these hard times. All I can say is Job well done and looking forward as you progress with you plans. Not trying to put the other guys down. They have great programs as well but this thing is 'so simple even a cave man can use it!!' I fly low and slow so no need for the tube jocks to tell me about all the problems with winds on the edge of space Sam Prepar3D V5.3/[email protected]/EVGA 3080 TI/1000W PSU/Windows 10/40" 4K Samsung@3840x2160/ASP3D/ASCA/ORBX/ ChasePlane/General Aviation/Honeycomb Alpha+Bravo/MFG Rudder Pedals/
December 4, 201213 yr On the forecasts, winds etc: since OPUSFSX uses real metars and reports, any good weather site will give the same information. Maybe not ready for digesting, but its around.
